Matusiwa and Taylor 13:05 - Sep 20 with 1073 viewsringwoodblue

I know they’re still coming back from their respective surgery but where do people see them being involved this season?

Undoubtedly there will be injuries and suspensions for Lukic, Palacios and Florentino but are Azor and Jack good enough to be challenging for their places?

Shows how far we’ve come as last season Azor was arguably the first name on the team sheet.

Yes to Azor, no to Taylor.

Azor is good enough in my opinion , and at some point this season will get the chance to prove so , he will have to be patient but it will come .
Taylor I’m not so convinced about unfortunately.

I can’t see either of them getting on the bench, let alone starting

Taylor isn’t good enough at this level

Matusiwa is now probably 4th/5th choice in midfield

I worry for Azor as I can't see him even making the bench. He's behind Luis and probably Nunez ( who's more versatile) on the bench. Think if Taylor had been fit... he'd be sold already or out on loan. Expect that in Jan.

Unless there are injuries, I can't see much game time for either. Palacios and Lukic are certain starters.

Taylor is perfectly fine as cover for the bench if we are struggling for numbers. He isn't someone we want to be starting generally but he is fine to do a job when needed.

I would expect Matusiwa to be on the bench when we are missing one of the players ahead of him.

I can’t see a place for either of them. I think Ouattara would be the obvious choice after Palacios, Florentino and Lukic. Maybe Mattusiwa could be on the bench but think we have alternatives that would come in ahead of him. Only chance for the two of them is a mayhem of injuries.

There will be injuries and suspensions over the season. Ouattara will only be covering midfield if he isn't required as a defender.

Both Matusiwa and Taylor are fine as cover.

I think we will rather have O’Shea at rightback and greaves CB to accomodate Outarra in midfield. Ofcourse there Will be injuries, but i think we will have to be hit quite badly before we see Mattusiwa let alone Taylor to start a game.

I can see Matusiwa getting game time if we need a more defensive approach in front of a leaky defence. Whether he is fast enough to do the job, I am not sure.

Two of Palacios, Lukic and Florentino starting with the other on the bench, then if one is injured it's Matusiwa on the bench against 'top half sides' and Nunez against the rest. If another is injured Taylor gets a bench spot half the time, so you can't see much chance for him, unfortunately, he's been a proper stalwart for us.

Agree unfortunately I can only see Matusiwa playing much with a change of formation (3 man centre mid) or a big change in outlook from GON ie shifting to one player screening the defence like Everton had. And mostly off the bench as Florentino probably favoured there for his forward passing ability. I think Taylor not at all, unless and injury / suspension apocalypse, and suspect he will go in Jan.
It is really tough on them both.

Taylor may get a run out if we draw lower league opposition in the FA Cup. I think it’s pretty obvious he would have moved on in the summer of not for the injury.

Matusiwa …. Back up player and probably on the bench, but seems a bit slow for the PL to me.

I don't get why some seem to think that these players are surplus to requirements/not important/whatever if they are not always going to be on the bench.

If these two are not available to be on the bench when required, it means we will be putting youngsters from the U21s in there instead. I am fairly sure the drop off from Matusiwa and Taylor to the very best of what is in that position in the U21s is very significant.

Ultimately, if we are really fortunate with injuries and suspensions and we only need one of the two for one match off the bench they are still potentially important. If that match sees us get 1-3 points they could make all the difference at the end of the season.

I think Jack Taylor will most likely go out on loan in Jan. He's effectively 7th choice now.

We have superb quality for CM which is great given where we were in pre-season:

Palacios
Lukic
Florentino Luis
Ouattara
Matusiwa
Nunez
Taylor

Fantastic strength in depth.

I think we saw Palacios as someone too good to turn down and have ended up with more midfielders than we planned. Had Palacios been signed first I don't think we sign both Lukic and Florentino.

This means Taylor is not going to play before January in the league and Matusiwa is only going to be a bench option unless there are injuries.

We are carrying at least one too many CM's.

Too much depth in one position means we're looking a bit light in others.

So can expect Taylor to go out in Jan and Azor also is too good to not play. Can expect a lot of Championship sides to want Azor in Jan if he's not playing.

As I've listed above we have 7 CMs. Why would we need to put u21s in the squad?

One or both Taylor and most likely Mehmeti will be wanted to be moved on in Jan. I could say Taylor being a loan to see where we are next season.

We will have to reduce the squad to bring anyone else in and balance the squad with 1-2 defenders and/or a RW.

In what world will Jack Taylor have big role to play? He wouldn’t be at the club if he wasn’t injured all summer.

It’s the most depth we have in the squad.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?
