Keane Second On Manager Rich List
Friday, 30th Apr 2010 07:17

Town boss Roy Keane has been named as the second wealthiest manager working in the British and Irish game in the Sunday Times Sport Rich List.

Keane’s wealth, mainly earned during his playing career with Manchester United, is estimated at £30 million, behind only England boss Fabio Capello, who is said to be worth £34 million.

Keane’s former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is in third (£24 million) and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti (£21 million) is in fourth.

WTF???

Great for him, would love to know how much we contribute and perversely get the impression that despite his squillions he still has the passion to move us forward.

Just wish he'd embrace a more rounded man management style... sigh

For someone that cripples fellow pro`s,works out on his country and can`t manage a Football Club that`s pretty good

What a set of idiots we have as 'fans'. I wish Ozzydog, These_aren't_the_days and especially Bennyblue would just feck off and go support another team.

Why does it matter what he has earnt in the past - he's here to do a job and will be judged on the result of his TWO year contract.

@yorkshire -

Quote "The 37-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Town, but says he would like to replicate his achievement with Sunderland and take the Blues up in his first season: "I've signed a two-year contract but I'd like to try and do it in one year..."

So, he himself hasn't achieved what he wanted to...

"So, he himself hasn't achieved what he wanted to..."

So? whats your point?
Alex Fergusons objective was to try and win the Champions League. He didnt achieve what he wanted to either.

"Id like to try and get promotion in one year". What else was he going to say? Ive signed for two years so I will only try and win promotion in year two.

Hardly likely after supporting the Club for getting on for 40 years through thick and thin.
What you do not understand is that there are many of us who do not see Beano as some kind of superhero,we are not swayed by celebrity and did not want him at Ipswich Town Football.
He has done nothing to change my mind.
But I am sure you enjoy his press conferences and I will still be supporting the Club long after you have got married and are told you have to go shopping on a Saturday afternoon

like you ozzy i'm a long term supporter (only 35 years) tho. Also like you i hate to see the things we've always stood for at our club despatched for the sake of celebrity.
Yorkshire its you who should go elsewhere & take Keane with you

@Olimar - if you can't see why Roy Keanes appointment is a sad indictment of both Town as a Club and football in general then that says something.

I was merely pointing out that RK himself said he would like promotion in a year, he has since gone on to add one of the reasons he didn't sign a longer contract was that quick promotion was the aim, this has been backed up by the Club - Evans needs Prem football to gain a return on his investment.

So year one, he has had a clear out, brought in his own players, offloaded some of his own players that he brought in as they weren't up to the task and now we are in for a summer of change again - tell, honestly, does it feel like the Ipswich Town that we grew up and fell in love with? To me, no.

Football HAS changed. Some of you seem to have failed to notice. I'm not saying it is for the better, as I too yearn for the good old days when little Ipswich could challenge, and often beat, the big boys and win trophies. But to talk about it not feeling like the Ipswich Town that we grew up with and fell in love with is missing the point. We now have an owner. He wants a return on his investment. And football is not the cosy game it used to be. Money talks. Keane has failed so far, but has my support. There is no point in wallowing in nostalgia - those days are in the past, and this Club was on the road to nowhere whilst we were stuck in some sort of timewarp. Sad, but unfortunately true.

A couple of points with this "rich list".

1. It is only an estimate.
2. and this is mainly due to what he earned as a player at Man U.

If I totalled all the money that I have earned over my working life I am sure that it would appear to be a considerable sum. It doesn't mean that I have got anything left.

All in all this is a bit of a pointless story, surely the people at the Sunday Times have something better to report on.

@Fixed_it

Yes, football has changed and I'm not wallowing - but I disagree that Clubs can't retain some of their old ethos and culture, in fact. Fulham are a decent example - yes they have a benefactor but the appointment and then subsequent support of such an excellent manager fits with a more traditional footballing ethos, wouldn't you agree?

I do feel Town have lost something with Evans, Clegg and Keane - it may well be a case of a sign of the time and the fact that we didn't have a choice - that said there is nothing wrong with wanting the Club to retain some of its values - in fact it's critical that a Club like Town does - it's one of the reasons that historically we were able to punch above our weight - if we lose that and become a Hull for example, then we truely have lost the Club.

Think if most of us were worth £30m we'd be on a beach somewhere, and not spending time in places like Scunthorpe on a Tuesday night in November. Clearly has passion and drive to succeed. Why don't folk just get behind the guy?

The same old cry of "tradition destroyed" from the anti-keane morons. It really is quite laughable, if you had your way we would be league one with no cash teetering on the brink by now. I've got some news for you, it's been nearly 20 years since we won a real trophy and since the 80s decline we've seen 1 good season of top flight football. Like it or lump it, if we want to see any success in the future then we need someone like Keane to drag this club into the modern era. How long you have been supporting the club is not a yardstick for authority on the best way forward. The need to jump to claims of superiority over other fans just makes you sound like a bitter old prawn sandwich cruncher who lacks the wit to sufficiently back up their arguement. I'm resigned to the fact that we will never be completely rid of you glass half empty doomsayers, but it saddens me that you feel the need to try and spoil others enjoyment of football. In my experience characters such as you are never happy and will always find something to whinge about, so what exactly do you get out of it?

You have my pity.

Well said homer 123. Even our "friends" up the A140 have managed to keep their support together by having a sensible attitude to their fans & keeping them on board during the bad times. If only we could have a nearly full house every week.

the rich list has as many pages as WAR & PEACE and im not even on the last page, that is the only relevance it has to me ,who cares how much money Keano's got. Anyway its not all rosey for him ,ive got my bar tab in his name !

Well said SouperJim!! I totally agree with you. As much as its great to think back at "those days" I am getting pretty tired and annoyed at people just dwelling on the past. People need to get over the fact that football was different back then and that Rhodes is not going to be coming to the club!!! YES Keano maybe shouldnt of sold him etc bla bla bla bla but at the end of the day he did!!

We can argue that maybe by him leaving its given Wickham space to grow and get more experience...

Why dont we just all get behind the team on SAturday... enjoy the world cup and bring on next season!!!!

Must be a slow news day?! I couldn't care less about these lists to be honest, he is a football manager and negotiates his contracts accordingly as we all do when looking at our own employment situations. What he has earned at Man Utd has nothing to do with us here and now.

What is driving me nuts is the berating and baiting of our manager because he is not 'Ipswich' or whatever the hell else excuse is needed. I've been a supporter of this club for nearly 40 years, love it dearly and look back fondly at the good times and cringe at the god awful times (thank you Mr Duncan), when someone on here mentioned Glenn Pennyfather that really made me shake uncontrollably and sweat profusely!

The one thing that brings us all together is the love for this club and this mythical ethos that is discussed here comes from us, not the manager and not the owners. Sure in the past they have helped but as with football the world over they all move on and leave us, the fans to carry the legacy. Roy Keane has a two year contract with the club which I hope he and us honour to the hilt and then we will see where we are.

So lets all get down there for the last game of the season on Sunday and give them a decent send off to what has been a disappointing season (not the worst by any means) and look forward to the next chapter in the history of for me, the best football club in the world bar none!

Bit twee I know and apologise but heavy night last night and can't really be arsed to get all argumentative!!
