Keane: Wrights Unavailable
Keane: Wrights Unavailable
Sunday, 2nd May 2010 21:35

Manager Roy Keane says released pair David and Richard Wright made themselves unavailable for Sunday’s game against Sheffield United due to injury. The Blues boss says the pair would have been involved in the season’s last match.

Keane said: “A couple of players today missed the game through injury, David Wright and Richard Wright.

“They didn’t make themselves available for today, and they would have been involved, most definitely.

“Strangely they turned in for training yesterday not 100% fit. One trained and then walked in after half an hour saying he wasn’t right. But there you go.”

After the way they have both been treated I would have told RK to stick it up his arse. DW the most consistent defender we have and able to play across the whole back four. RW bar far the best keeper at the club. You only had to see today how little the back four trust BM, they never past it back to him once to see him hoof it a mile up field to nobody in paticular. BM no communication, never comes off his line and far too small.

Oh ye and where is our most skillful and creative player? A game like today where we needed skill and the ball on the floor Pablo was again missing. Certainly at home it cannot be argued that we have always played better when Pablo plays.

Injured my arse, kean, I wouldn't have played either if I'd just been booted out.
Thats the first piece of bullsh!t you've spoken for a long time because usually your honest and straight forward.

Keano, after everything the two Wrights have done for the club over the years, I find your dismissive reaction to them offensive, but we know you don't care what we think, you couldn't even be bothered to walk around the pitch after the game to show some respect for us fans that have stuck by you this season.

Surprised by the players here. They have let themselves down IMO.

Oh it's their fault is it Roy?!...i should think both will be looking forward to working with a decent manager next season.

keane done the right thing for them by telling them they are moving on as soon as he knew, rather than keeping them in the dark about it. they had a chance to put themselfs in the shop window today but decided to throw their toys out of the pram. As for people saying pabs is are most creative player, you lot were saying last week that garvan was make your mind up!!!!!!!!!!

Oh get over yourselves people. They are payed by the club to play until their contracts run out. If they are injured fair enough if they aren't and just throwing a hissy fit because they are not being offered a new contract then don't call yourself a professional footballer and go join a Sunday morning team.

This is a football team not some sentimental home for footballers. RK doesn't want them (though with RW I am pretty sure it has to do more with wages than ability, with D. Wright good average full back but we need better.)

So Keane ends the season with a final pop at Richard Wright and David Wright, two players who have served Ipswich well over the years and who have always done their best when in an Ipswich shirt. Both were told they will be leaving a few days ago, and I find it very very sad that our manager speaks out rather than just thank them for their work and wish them all the best.

If Richard's wages are too high, it is understandable he is being let so albeit time will tell whether B.Murphy is as good a keeper as Wright is.

David's release is utterly confusing when he was a part of the vast majority of good defensive displays for Ipswich this season. I thought the O'Connor-Delaney-McAuley-Wright defence really was a good foundation on which to build, but oh no Keane has to go and give Wright away on a free transfer. Without Wright today the defence conceded three goals at home. Surely his wages are not that much and we could have given a new contract to this defender who can fill in at left back and even central defence as well as right back.

They should have turned up and put in a good performance today to say goodbye to the fans, and for the fans to say farewell to them.

Maybe Keane is just pre-empting the comments from fans saying that he should have played them both today so they could say farewell to the fans. Rather than face a barrage of abuse for not playing them, he has given the reason why they were not in the squad.

I'm neither a Keane supporter or hater, but the poor fella seems to be in a no win situation over the pair's release.

David Wright has been one of our better players during a depressing season, he was well worth another contract, but RK has never liked him for some reason?
In todays game, we looked quite enterprising during the first half, but a wonder shot by ex Col U player Yates saw us 1-0 down. Eastman off and then two more goals made by Yates sealed our fate...perhaps we missed our best fullback... perhaps we will see him next year in Canary colours?

If they didnt play because of how they were treated (which i doubt was the case), then they have just reinforced keane's point that people with bad attitudes have to move on.

Players get released all the time, and if keane wants to bring players in then people have to leave. Wrights between them would earn close to 20k a week total I am guessing? (12 and around 8 each?) and keane cant guarantee that contracted players he doesnt want will leave - so this was probably his best option even if they are still good players at this level.

Farewell Jug Ears, but I am looking forward to seeing who comes in to the squad in the summer

keanes got a bad attiude why doesnt he move on i dont think it really matters whether they want to play or not at this stage the problem is they will go and roy will replace them with players who are a lot worse most likely from sunderland or maybe the emerald isle cause thats the way it is and always will be under keane

Keano sort it out, keano keano sort it out. D.Wright is an amazing fullback for us and yet you sell him as for R.Wright I wouldnt be supprised if he hung his boots up but after what he has done for town over the years I think Roy should pay some respect to him and us fans. I would also like to add roy mind doing a lap of honour next season :S

They have a contract and are still being paid by the club. If that's the attitude then I for one am glad they are going. Get out

Anyone who say's that the two Wright's have served their club well neen brain transplants. Trouble is there aren't any big enough to fit their a**e's!
These guy's are paid enormouse sums of money to perform and entertain in a team game. They let the team down, the manager down, and the fan's down. Now it will be on there conscience. If they have one. Stealing money from their employer and short changing the fan's.
Just because they've been "shown the door" they act like they've had their dummy thrown out of the pram. They're not the first player's to have served their time at a footall club

Excuse me for asking but could it be that RK is telling the truth? If they are both injured then I suspect they would have liked to have made thier farewells. With no real knowledge quite a few people seem prepared to slag them off for their disloyalty!

I'm imagining that they were told that their contracts weren't being renewed and were a bit upset and, perhaps, had one shandy too many and/or didn't sleep well and turned up to Friday training groggy and were sent home and told they weren't fit to play on Saturday. Never mind now, it was an end of season friendly of no consequence and will be forgotten in a couple of days. They were great servants to Ipswich for years and it will be sad to see them leave. It doesn't matter how much they're paid - if anyone is made redundant at work their performance will be half-hearted if not put on gardening leave.

David Wright was certainly missed today, Peters got turned inside out by Yeates. Lets just hope he has a decent right back in mind this way all will be forgetting about letting David Wright go. Its a fresh start.. Just got to get on with it
