Town Recall Martin From Charlton Tuesday, 18th Jan 2011 16:07
Town have recalled midfielder Lee Martin from his loan spell at Charlton. The 23-year-old was due to remain with the Addicks until the end of the season.
The former Manchester United man made 19 starts and six sub appearances in his half-season at the Valley.
Last week, new manager Paul Jewell said everyone at the club would be given a clean slate, including those currently on spells elsewhere: "I’ll have to take a view on the players who are out on loan, the loan players that we have here and the players that are here full-time. No one’s out of the door, no one’s in the door.”
Strikers Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie remain on loan at Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively. As with Martin, the Blues have a 24-hour recall on Lisbie but matters are more complicated with the Spaniard where his return depends on all three parties - the clubs and the player - agreeing to end his time at Selhurst Park early.
One-time Wimbledon trainee Martin joined the Blues for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.6 million in the summer of 2009 but failed to make an impact in his first season at Portman Road, netting once in 10 starts and eight sub appearances.
The Taunton-born wideman or striker, who had loan spells with Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest while at Old Trafford, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2013.
Elsewhere, former Blue Darren Bent has completed his move from Sunderland to Aston Villa for a fee of £18 million rising to £24 million once add-ons have been taken into consideration.

If he cannot get into the Charlton side then Jewell must think he can get something out of him. One of the worst signings the Club has ever made second and third only to Lisbie and Tom Carson a goalkeeper we signed many moons ago. I personally believe we were sold down the river by Sir Alex but hope I'm wrong and Lee is a superstar but I have as much chance of that as winning the lottery.

Keep him away from Arsenal please!!!!!!!!!!

we chose to recall him cuz he wouldn't be getting games now Powell is in charge. I'm sure Powell would've kept him n sat him on the bench but thats no good to us so we recalled him. Same happened with Andros

Good decision. We're short of wide players and he deserves another chance. Still wouldn't recall Lisbie or Pablo though!

I thought he played well against PSV, we are paying a big chunk of his (too) high wages, so Jewell needs to take a 1st hand look at him. That said, I suspect he knows all about Pablo so happy for him to stay at Palace.

He didn't do very well under Keane, but I love the fact that PJ is taking a long look at him, lets hope he can get the best out of him.

Casanovacrow where has all this inside knowledge come from?
bluelady added 16:54 - Jan 18
Casanovacrow - lets hope the same does happen as with Andros, he went back to spurs and showed us all what we were missing!!! Still wish we could get him back, he shone in a negative football team, imagine how good he would look in a forward thinking passing team?

When Man Utd bought him off Wimbledon when he was 15/16 he was dubbed the next Giggs. Now failing to live up to that must be massively disappointing in anyones book but it is as much in his head now as anything else. He clearly has ability but going to Dagenham away for Charlton must be a sorry state of affairs for a player whose early promise was so highly thought of. Im not sure Roy Keane is the most sympathetic of chaps and probably the worst manager to have at a time like that. Martin needs an arm around his shoulder and to be playing in a winning team and he will look the business. He's only 23 and its make or break now for him. He could be playing premierleague footie with town at 25 or he could be scraping around for a contract in league 2. Its up to him. Lets get behind him and treat it as a new 1.6 million signing!!!!! Just reading between the lines, he hasn't played since Jan 3rd when Parkinson got sacked.

Apparently, he has been really good for Charlton, best player on the pitch most games. If he can replicate that form for us, then great.

We had a 23-year-old midfielder who cost us £1.6M out on loan and he has 2..5 years left on his contract, so it was Jewell's duty to bring him back to the club and take a look at him. We were probably paying most of his wages when at Charlton anyway, so what is the harm in giving the lad another chance? This time he will be coming to Ipswich without the pressure of the big price tag on his head, so perhaps he will surprise us and do well? Counago and Lisbie are a different story, they are in their 30s and out of contract in the summer so there is no point bringing them back.

CAFC site says Jewell was interested in him whilst Wigan Manager! Lee Martin will be unable to represent Charlton against former loan side Plymouth Argyle on Saturday after being recalled by Ipswich Town on Tuesday. The 23-year-old, who joined the Addicks on loan on the eve of the season, has been summoned back to Portman Road by new Town manager Paul Jewell. Martin was in the party for Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday, but wasn't named in the matchday squad. And after missing the FA Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur the previous weekend because he was prevented from playing in the competition by his parent club, it means Martin's last game in Charlton colours was the 4-2 Valley defeat by Swindon Town on January 3rd, a match that also proved the end of the road for former boss Phil Parkinson Martin was once courted by Jewell when the new Ipswich boss, who has replaced Roy Keane at the helm in Suffolk, was in charge of Wigan Athletic. And after swapping one new era for another, he will be looking to make an impression when Ipswich host Doncaster Rovers in the Championship this weekend. Martin, who was born in Somerset, but grew up in South London, was at Wimbledon as a youngster before signing youth forms at Manchester United. He made three appearances for the senior Red Devils side and he has also had loan spells with the likes of Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke City, Plymouth, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest. One of Keane's first signings when his former Manchester United teammate took charge at Portman Road, he has made just nine first-team appearances as a Tractor Boy since arriving in July 2009. And his lack of action at Ipswich saw him opt for a switch back to the capital - and Charlton - in August. Debuting as a late substitute at AFC Bournemouth on the opening day of the season, Martin scored his first goal for the club the following midweek in Charlton's 4-3 Carling Cup defeat at Shrewsbury Town. Martin also bagged two goals in the sensational 5-1 victory at promotion rivals Peterborough United on November 13th, a feat all the more impressive because he started that game on the bench. Utilised wide on the right and in the hole behind the striker, Martin's closing stats for the club read three goals in 24 outings, the best seasonal tally of games in his career, but he will now be hoping to sparkle under Jewell

Lee Martin can be a good player in a good team. Best of luck lee. Some fans didnt like Eric Gates at first, further back Sir Alf was ridiculed when he kept playing Jim Leadbetter in Div 1 but he was proved right when we went on too win league, Lee deserves a second chance.

spoke to a Charlton fan on the train home after the 1-3 loss to Barnsley in November, and he was really hoping that we did not recall him early.. not sure what position he has been playin there.

It's funny, I used to spot him alot in BMW x5 having mcdonalds drive thru breakfast last season. His confidence was ripped apart by RK . How was he expected to be match winner if RK tactics were route 1!!! Pj has got him back to see if he can put his foot on ball and make things happen, we ain't got anyone else to do it

some of you so called supporters are complete idiots. The lad deserves another chance, Man Utd are not stupid, he is a good player but now needs to just knuckle down and prove it.

New manager , new coach, may see us get the very best out of young Martin , and maybe even Lisbie if he returns. At ealst with Martin we wiull have a bit of pace back in the side - a mark of Jewell's sides I believe!

Evidently according to Radio (and Phil you may wish to verify this) we can recall Lisbie on 24 hours notice, however we do not have a recall clause for Pablo..... they did however get the number of games Martin played and goals scored wrong so not saying this is 100% accurate!
