Norwich Linked With Bullard Bid
Norwich Linked With Bullard Bid
Wednesday, 1st Jun 2011 09:08

Norwich are set to make a £1.5 million offer for Town loanee Jimmy Bullard, according to a number of this morning’s tabloids. Bullard is said to have issued a ‘come and get me plea’, although the quotes attributed to the Hull City midfielder are the comments he made on Saturday’s Soccer AM taken out of context.

Bullard enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with the Blues during the final few months of the season, winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Town are keen to sign the 32-year-old on a permanent basis but with two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at the KC Stadium, manager Paul Jewell has admitted that it would be a difficult deal for the club to do.

Premier League QPR, Wigan and more recently Norwich have also been linked, along with newly-relegated West Ham.

Meanwhile, Premier League Wolves are the latest club to be linked with Town target Keiren Westwood with the Irish international keeper set to leave Coventry on a free transfer this summer. Leicester, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Everton are also reported to be eyeing the former Carlisle man.

We won't sign Bullard. We do need to sign someone who can pass the ball properly and take a set piece though. Can't be to hard to find at professional level surely ????

Has anyone ever seriously considered Keiran Westwood to be a realistic transfer target for us?

Norwich proactive in the transfer market early again as they did last season .
If we were ever serious about Bullard and our intentions to gain promotion this deal should have been done a long time ago as a signing of Bullards stature would attract others to a team serious about going up .

Surco - you think we havn't tried? I believe PJ /is/was very keen but as he's said it's going to be a difficult deal to do. That said, I doubt very much the budgies would get him for as little as £1.5m. If he went for that price I think PJ would have snapped him up whilst he was here and keen.

If true, we cannot afford to gamble £1.5 million on his fitness. There are far safer bets out there for this sort of money.... (and younger too that could have better resale value)..... We need to be more shrewd than this. Scum can afford it as they have the money to go up.

I dont know why anyone would pay a fee for him?!

Hull are desperate to get him off the wage bill, and dont want to pay the top up fee if he plays another game.

Whoever signs him will get him for free or a nominal fee. Its the wages that are the issue.

As usual we will be at the end of the line for decent players , most of whom will cost money ! The number of players being released is beginning to show how few can realistically expect to up their wages next year and that to ensure a living may well have to lower their sights on the wage front ! But even so it looks as though we will still be at the back of the queue for signings and will be again stuck with ' shop window ' loanees and not good enough bench warmers . Unless PJ et al can produce fairly quickly some worthwhile signings season ticket sales will stall and next season will see an even larger fall in support !!! I know a lot of my area season ticket holders have not renewed and will only attend top games to see decent players ! I am thinking now that unless PJ can sign decent players soon we will be lost once more among the lower regions of the league struggling to survive let alone win promotion ! When I went away PJ was saying " signing within days " , I have been home 2 weeks and nothing but words again !!! This could well be my last season ticket as I am losing all faith in the management at PR to produce a team worthy of our support !

I thought Hull would release him for nothing as long as a club took the wages commitment of £45K per week for next 2 years away from them. £45k x 52 weeks x 2 years = £4.7Mn, so I think the Budgies are optimistic in offering £1.5Mn, leaving Hull to right off over £3Mn. It's bad enough Budgies winning promotion, but to take Jimmy as well would be just too much to take.

ha ha ha - who'd have thought that Jimmy was available to the highest bidder....what a surprise!!! And only a few weeks after he had duped the gullible majority into thinking that he'd even take a pay cut to come and spend some more time with us!!!!

he was never going to be here for the long term...shame as he is standout quality in this league but bottom line is he deserves to be playing in the premiership

A quality player but lets be realistic, injury prone and too costly.
You certainly can't knock him for wanting to get back to the PL instead of playing with the mediocre dross we had last season.

I say we go back in for gio, we could snap him up for about 4 million, then we have the creative player we need and the goal scorer we need all in one ;)

DiamondGezzer added 10:19 - Jun 1
If this comes to pass then you can't blame him for wanting to finish his career at top level. A great shame as no-one can deny the influence he had on games. Ah well, onwards and upwards. Next !

We don't need Bullard. We need a leader in midfield who is fit and can tackle. We should also give the youngsters a chance to blend into a team rather than wasting money trying to buy one. Hyam is plenty good enough for this league in front of the back four, for example.

I got laughed at in north stand when I said the following season would not have Bullard or dyer playing for town.

I'm very worried at the moment , lots of players leaving or not having contracts sorted ..... Millions have been spent.... Or wasted.

The owner has kept his word and funded what's required, just people employed seems unable to compete or complete the tasks

People seem surprised JB would go to Norwich, they have obviously forgotten he only left Fulham purely for money and nothing to do with football. As the saying goes a leopard never changes its spots. The sad thing is the foolish fans at this club who were duped by the normal meaningless footballer comments about this is a great club etc and voted him player of the year.

oldtimer3 added 10:47 - Jun 1
well well not a surprise is it! why do we bother too go and watch these greedy players who lie too us supporters! Come on Russell Osman we need you to mould young players who are good enough for the first team and who really care about playing for Ipswich Town if this means we go down in the sort term then so be it, build a team around players who really care about our club.

Legend added 10:52 - Jun 1
Nobody has lied to anyone!! Its up to us as a club to get the players needed and get the deals done. players wont hang about for ever!
All we hear is we are being linked with this player and linked with that player but it goes no further!! If we dont start getting quality players in soon i really feel for us next season!

tractorboybig added 11:09 - Jun 1
There is no panic.
Most players will hang out for the best deal they can get.
No one wants to play for itfc anymore, we are just a name on the list.
We are told that the club will be run on business lines.
Most of the players we are linked with will go elsewhere. Most of our youngsters are happy going down a div, rather than staying.
The problem with most people on this site is that you are falling for the lies.
This club has no ambition and the chances of us pushing for promotion next season are NIL.
Accept that and we can all be a bit more positive.

funny how people here are now changing their "we love Jimmy" to "Jimmy is a traitor" slogans.

most amusing to read. the fickleness is scary here....

We only have Smith and Delaney as our centre backs and Scotland and Priskin cant score goals and we are worried if we get Bullard or not

At the end of the day Jewell said he was talking to Hull and Bullard, surely by now Hull have said we want x and Bullard has said I want Y, If it fit in with our plan we buy him if not walk away.

Jewell said he had his targets and it was a list of targets and wants them all in by ore season.

You have 29 days then so lets get moving.

1 of the 32 players link so far must be a real target law of averages

JB will not be wearing a town shirt. He is a footballer and will go to the highest bidder. if anybody believed anything else then you are a numpty
