Premier Duo Eyeing Whight
Premier Duo Eyeing Whight

Newcastle United and Arsenal are reported to be keeping an eye on the progress of 17-year-old Town left-back Joe Whight. The Ipswich-born youngster was on the bench for three games at the end of the season and looks set to make his breakthrough into the first team in the new campaign.

Former Copleston High School pupil Whight enjoyed an impressive 2010/11 with the U18s and the reserves, leading manager Paul Jewell to offer him a two-year contract in April, which we understand he is still to sign.

According to one of the tabloids, those performances also attracted the attention of the Magpies and the Gunners.

Must be good for a two year deal when Eastman only gets offered six months.

Seems to be the flavour of the month just lately, Premier clubs looking to sign young English players. Can only be good for the game in general that big transfer fees are staying in this country

Kiwomya product - players shouldn't be able to move at that age though it's a joke really.

I'm giving football 2 more seasons and then sacking it off! So get promoted this year you stupid blues!

An exciting prospect to look forward to. As Whight is 17 and Kennedy is 35, I think we probably need a new left-back between these ages for the next couple of seasons though.

He is one for the future for sure. I hope he signs his 2 year deal so we are protected. I would like to see Cresswell signed with whight as cover, also would be good for him to learn from kennedy :)

I was just thinking about a few of these youngsters, like Wickham and Carson, and forgot Whight was on the bench at the end of the season.

Given the engery and effort they give, especially in a position like left back, i'd quite like to see him in the squad. Alongside Delaney and Ingimarsson (experience) there's room for a youngster who will listen to these guys on the pitch.

why has everyone forgot about Shane O'Connor?? i thought he never had a bad game, he's quick & exciting he takes on people & can play left midfield too i thought it would make more sense to have him as cover for kennedy but instead he had donkey o'dea who isnt a left back whilst MK was out, i've not seen whight play so cant judge between the 2 but o'connor's played in the first team if anything we dont need a left back we need to stick MK there n if hes injured bring in o'connor with whight as cover n let OUR own youngsters learn the trade here

By all accounts a player with bags of potential. Hopefully he will sign and be in and around the first team next season.
