Fülöp’s Father Confirms Turkish Interest
Fülöp’s Father Confirms Turkish Interest
Wednesday, 15th Jun 2011 17:48

Town keeper Márton Fülöp’s agent and father Ferenc has confirmed that Bursaspor are interested in signing his son. Earlier this afternoon TWTD reported that the Hungarian was being targeted by the Turkish side.

Fülöp senior says that so far only tentative discussions have taken place: "We've heard about their interest, the Turkish team are considering making an offer, but the talks are at a very early stage.”

Fülöp junior has only a year left on his Blues contract, having signed from Sunderland for £750,000 last August and seems likely to move on during the close season with manager Paul Jewell looking to bring in a new senior number one.

The Bursa-based club recently targeted West Brom keeper Scott Carson but have now turned their attention to Fülöp, who has been in and out of the Town side since Jewell took over from Roy Keane in January.

Despite backing his current keepers towards the end of the season, Jewell is understood to want to bring in a new first choice this summer, having last month made an approach for Coventry’s out-of-contract Republic of Ireland international Keiren Westwood, who now appears to be on his way to Sunderland.

Arran Lee-Barrett has signed a new two-year deal and, despite being picked ahead of Fülöp for a spell towards the end of the season, looks likely to be seen as back-up rather than a regular starter. Brian Murphy opted against extending his stay and is currently looking for a new club.

Fülöp’s exit this summer has always been on the cards with Jewell keen not to allow players’ contracts to run down in the same way that David Norris’s and Gareth McAuley’s this summer.

Interesting, could probably look to recoup his fee, maybe more.

PJ better have another keeper lined up.

I'd hate to left with just ALB.

Ferenc Fülöp......... he must have had the sh1t ripped out of him for when he was younger!

Or is just merely the sound made by dodgy windscreen wipers?

Monk: Define 'very old'?

Fulop is about 27, so his dad may be say 47. Very old??

On his day, Fulop was as good as anyone in the championship. Sadly not always consistent . Wish him well if he goes. COYB

Martin F is an excellent professional footballer.
The Priskin (another great player) connection has muddied the waters, suggesting that there are some rather temporamental Hungarians in our midst.
It is unlikely that Mr Jewell is going to sidetrack his thrust to try to sort this out.
It is all a bit subtle.
So it would not be at all surprising to see them both go.
Sacrificed to a determined mind-set. Good and bad. Pragmatic.

Best keeper we have had since Alexander & briefly Begovic. If anyone remembers Cardiff away and arsenal at home he was worth the transfer fee. Also didn't man city take him on emergency loan couple seasons back.

Losing fulop would be a big mistake, international level keeper is difficult to replace.

ALB was hopeless against Norwich and the other games!

When he arrived I was hoping he would be a rock solid keeper for years for us, but PJ and some of the fans don't seem that happy. Think our defense didn't do him any favours. Low point was when he was dropped for ALB. Still think he is a good keeper especially with a more solid defense in front of him, so I'd be happy enough if he stayed. Looking unlikely though. Let's hope PJ has someone lined up. Probably has something up his sleeve. Shame Shane Supple didn't hang on another year...

A good keeper on his day but was inconsistent over the season. Would be expensive to keep in terms of wages and depreciating transfer value, especially if PJ is planning to get a new No 1 in anyway. Best get the money up front though Clegg! Seem to remember a few stories of players going to Turkey over the past few years and coming back 6 months later because they haven't been paid!

Richard Kingson, Marcus Hahnemann, Adriano Basso, Joe Murphy and Iain Turner are all proven at this level or above and available for free. Paul Jones had a very good season for Exeter last year and looks very promising...

His dad should have called Marton 'Philip'.

I think Philip Fulop has an onomatopoeic irony about it

Not entirely sure some of our fans know what they are talking about sometimes. There is no doubt big changes are needed this summer but to say a whole new SQUAD is needed, is just a tad bit extreme.

I would not be disappointed to see Fulop between our sticks still next season, to be honest. Think he's had a rough deal because of some clangers (Barnsley at home, the second Arsenal goal at the Emirates) but I would be a lot more comfortable knowing that, even if he does leave, we are safe in the knowledge that a top class replacement is already in place. Otherwise, it's a risk best not to take. For me, Lee Barratt did well as a makeshift but, as a potential number 1, can be a liability. Lonergan of Preston and Hahnneman (free transfer) would be possible and achievable replacements. Forget Westwood, he's a mackem pretty much now...

Not really to do with this but does anyone think that Ishmal Miller would be a great strike partner for Chops?? Great cover for Wickham aswell.

I know it is more than just 2 players and does not tell the entire story but fans want to get St Ledger ad Lonergan of Preston...did they just not get relegted for shipping a shed load of goals so we want to go after their keeper and centre back....and we are going to be leak free???

Won't be sorry if he goes - potentially a good keeper, but really poor on the distribution side with the long ball hoof - wish him well - Adios....

Did someone mention Kingson? Dear me - he's shocking... I know quite a few (real) Blackpool fans who say he's sh1te.
