Rodgers Dismisses Scotland Link
Rodgers Dismisses Scotland Link
Thursday, 14th Jul 2011 10:53

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers has dismissed reports linking the Swans with a move for their former striker Jason Scotland. Yesterday, the Welsh media claimed Town and the newly-promoted Premier League side were in talks regarding a proposed deal.

However, Rodgers says that although he is on the look-out for another frontman, the Trinidad and Tobago international isn’t in his thoughts: "Jason Scotland hasn't come into my thinking."

Town boss Paul Jewell is understood to have been impressed with Scotland during pre-season so far and may not now be in any rush to off-load the 32-year-old, who scored 10 goals during 2010/11.

Not surprised, think the Championship is his level. Could still do a good job for us this season though...

Wouldn't be to disappointed if he stayed. Think he could do well playing in a 4-4-2. New season with Chopra, Scotland, Ellington and one other would be good IMO

After Chopra's comments of not being the 'hold the ball up' type of striker then Scotland sounds like a good partner for him. Quite happy if he stays, certainly no need to let him leave on a free

Didnt Paul Jewell say that neither Scotland or Chopra are hold up players?

Scotland isnt.

We all thought the link was too good to be true. Why on earth would Swansea sign a player who only scored one Premier League goal at Wigan?! Scotland might be okay as a backup for us this season, but in honesty it was £750K and a big wage wasted.

no scotland is not a hold up player at all.
However with service and the loss of a few pounds(in weight).
He still is a good finisher at this level...........
In jewell we trust........

with our new players he may well do a job, rather Priskin moved on .

Rather keep Priskin than Scotland.

JS will still do a job however.

Scotland IS a hold up player, he plays with his back to goal using his strength / weight but he's NOT a target man, he needs service to feet or chest, there's no point lumping the ball to his head, he's not that type of player. When he was successful at Swansea he was a loan striker playing with his back to goal and balls into feet, his goals came from turning the defender and shooting (he's naturally two footed) or holding up and then spinning in behind playing a quick give and go. If we're playing wingers he might not be suitable but as a hold up striker ahead of Chopra he could do a good job.

rather Priskin stayed than tubbs lardy.come on hes so slow, doesnt work hard, cant hold the ball up,he only looks good in pre season cus the other players rnt fit yet.to do well in this league u need speedy players and lets face it a tortoise goin up a hill thru treacle is faster than scotland.get rid a.s.a.p

SOo it looks like chopra , ellington, scotland, priskin, murray and one other strikers at portman road, I dont think we will see another striker arrive as players want to play and unless we let one or two go many players might just see it as too much competition for a place when they could go else where and head straight into the first team. No one seems interested in priskin so to make room i think it would have to be scotland to go.

Clearly PJ is more concerned about getting players in at the moment and seeing how they gel.

Ten goals in mid table team devoid of creativity suggests he can score at this level. Prove 'em wrong Jason.

Well said Yun.

Scored some important goals for us last season in a what was largely a very poor side. The 4 of Ellington, Priskin, Scotland and Chopra isn't at all bad. We do need to strengthen the midfield and add a CB though, despite Bowyers arrival.

Yes PJ, we've all put offers in on a couple of players we're waiting to hear back from. Yawn....

I still can't believe how many people disliked (to say the least) Scotland throughout the season - a season that he finished with 10 goals being our top scorer (now that Norris is not here anymore). I never doubted his capabilities at this level. Yes he is a bit lazy and slow (which maybe is the main reason for getting these negative thoughts) but he is a very good scorer at our level. And don't forget he was left to play in front on his own most of the time and this is difficult. Even Chopra said he would prefer a partner in front. I am sure if Chopra and Scotland play alongside next season and with the better team we will have Scorland could score 15 goals which is more than fine by me!!! Come on Jason - prove your opponents wrong!

You know I think the mystery striker is Ishmael Miller. Brilliant signing if true !!!

northernblue added 13:20 - Jul 14
Jimmyjazz. Scotland can't hold the ball up. He is 5ft8 after all

Ishmael Miller !!!

Are you havin' a laugh ??!!

You wanna swap one lazy immobile striker for another one ??!!
( not that I think Scotland's lazy - just seems to be the common opinion on here.)

I'd rather keep Scotland and get rid of Misskin - now there's lazy !!

Goal every six games during career for Miller - hardly gonna set the league alight is he ? - please god - NO !!!!!!

The longer we wait the more likely it is that we have had the offers rejected, Although when they said more news monday they never said which monday and i'd like a sneaky offer to have been made for jordan rhodes, gotta be worth a punt and he has unfinished business here.
