Priskin Makes Town Exit
Priskin Makes Town Exit
Tuesday, 17th Jan 2012 15:50

Striker Tamás Priskin has left the Blues after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The Hungarian international’s terms were up at the end of the season with Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz and Millwall said to be interested in signing him during the January transfer window.

Town chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "We have today terminated Tamás's contract by mutual agreement. I would like to wish him every success over the rest of his career."

Priskin added: "It has been a privilege to play for a club of Ipswich Town's standing and I would like to wish the players and all involved at the club all the best for the future."

The frontman joined Town from Watford for £1.7 million in the summer of 2009 and scored nine goals in 35 starts and 25 sub appearances, the last against Blackpool on Saturday.

Priskin's most memorable moment with the Blues was scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 Carling Cup semi-final first leg victory over Arsenal at Portman Road.

The 25-year-old also spent loan spells with QPR, Swansea and Derby while a Town player.

suspect Ellington will be retained as a squad player as he will be on a third of tamas's wages. just trying to save what they can now in another poor season, hopefully the last 2 or 3 months of pain will mean we actually turn a corner..... we can but live in hope.......

Biggest worry is that Ellington has another 18months here I believe, he is another absolute waste of money, like many of our other big signings, Bowyer is another.

Great shame - I thought that he was a good player - Just had 2 very bad managers and a cr@P CEO

Plainly no-one was willing to offer shirt buttons for him let alone actually pay money so I'm not surprised the club have elected to cut him loose to save wages.

He is good enough, just not bothered enough. We won't miss him and this is therefore the right outcome for the club. It draws the line on what was just another awful Keane signing.

It does annoy me when people post on here without knowing facts.
1) Just before Blackpool got their equaliser Priskin got hurt in a tackle to the right of their penalty box. He was clearly hurt - so how he was supposed to go headlessly chasing across the pitch to shut down their midfield is a bit beyond my comprehension.
2) Secondly all player contracts are amortised - so although we may have spent money on him in terms of both a fee and wages this is all written down in the life of his contrct. All players at contract end are for the purposes of accounts "worth nothing". So losing Priskin now has cost nothing.

Good , he was hopeless at the weekend .

free up wages as well , lets get in some hungry upcoming talent from lower leagues with his wages

Obviously has talent, but can't seem to get it going on the pitch. Came as a good prospect after that prolific half-season at Watford and it all just died away. It's not just Ipswich, because he hasn't really shone when on loan, either.

Wish the best for the guy, hope he does well in his future career with club and country. Thanks for the Arsenal memory, too. But probably the best outcome for all concerned.

Why did he come on as sub then?? Surely we could have got at least £100,000 for him.

SOTD78...... i have chuntered on about 'full contract value' on here for many years and how budgets are worked on relating to this sort of this, most people just cant get their heads round the concept or around amortisation...... we might have cut our losses at 50% of the rest of the contract value, so we save 50% and he can hope to recoup that in a signing on fee, win win, but most people will see it as £1.7m 'lost'

This is why we let people like ME run the club, he knows this shizzle!

I did say when we got him from Watford that he had all the movement but no end product - I was hoping that he'd develop that side of his game, but alas it was not to be and frankly the rest of his game went south too.

Ended up being lazyland still couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo...

And our next contestant is...

sotd78 good points.

Disappointed that he didn't do better in his time with us.

I would really like to know what the logic was in bringing him on against Blackpool. Presumably something has happened since that has brought the issue to a head. If it was known that the contract was going to be terminated before the Blackpool game then there is no way that he would even have been in the squad.

A dreadful waste of money - not ionly the fee, but there would have been the signing on fee, wages, bonuses etc.

Sorry to see you go Tamas good luck to you in the future. It's not yolur fault that you played for 2 different numpty managers that did not play to your strengths and get the best out of you A talented.skillful player wasted in his time at PR.

Not really sure why we're not selling him and trying to get some money for him...

Otherwise good decision, saturday proved that he didn't deserve his chance to play for us again.

I suspect we'll end the season with a striker shortage. Just like we have no Cb's at present. PJ's plan B+. Get rid of crap players.

SOTD78 and rosseden, if you read the comments on here regularly and accept that 75% are outrageous, misinformed or just plain ridiculous, do you really expect these contributors to understand amortisation?

Aside from the Arsenal goal been an absolute waste of time and our precious money...good riddance, any chance of you taking Leadbitter & Ellington along with you?

We sold Rhodes & Brought in Priskin as a replacement..unbelievable bit of business by Keano the Clown.

shame as there is a good player in there somewhere and i dont think we ever really saw the best of him, never got decent service as it was long ball after long ball, frustrating to watch as he could do something good one minute but miss from 5 yards the next, good luck to him though i hope he finds a club that plays to his strengths

I'm slightly baffled that we'd let him go without getting any kind of fee for him. Really need a replacement now, Tubbs maybe?

"so I'm not surprised the club have elected to cut him loose to save wages"

Unfortunately not, we have to honour his contract.

However if he signs for another club the amount he receives over the period we pay him is deducted from what he is due from us ie he is on say £10k a week with us the signs for Millwall on £5 that means we are only liable to pay him the difference between what he is getting with the new club and what he was getting with us.

The idea that you can simply ;send some one packing; to save wages is ridiculous. As ridiculous as a player just leaving us when it suits. I expect a few more to go before Feb 1st.
