Howells Staying at Luton
Howells Staying at Luton
Wednesday, 27th Jun 2012 13:41

Luton midfielder Jake Howells has signed a new three-year deal with the Hatters. The out-of-contract 21-year-old was understood to have been offered terms by the Blues but instead has opted to remain with with the Blue Square Bet Premier side.

Wales U21 international Howells, who plays at left midfield and left-back, was a player Town had been keeping an eye on since the 2010/11 season, although Howells himself reportedly says he knew nothing of the Blues' interest despite widespread reports linking Town with a move for him in January.

Howells' new deal at Kenilworth Road is understood to make him one of the club's highest-paid players.

love a player with ambition :-)

Yep, no ambition. Content to sign for the team offering the best terms regardless of status.

IF he was offered a contract by Town but decided to stay at Luton then we had a lucky escape.

No ambition and afraid of a challenge, not the type of character we would want.

Hmm.

Don't panic, lots more players in the Blue Square Premier with more ambition. Keep an eye out Paul, when we play Braintree, Cambridge and Luton in pre-season.

Anyway, Luke Chambers and Steven Davies to arrive next week. COYB.

This is an odd one.....surely he wouldn't of renewed his contract with Luton rather than sign for us? Personally I don't believe we offered him one.

yet another player who decides not to come and if we cant offer better terms etc than the conference we have a major problem of bringing players ere unless im missing something

Didn't exactly excite me anyway. I reckon Jewell said "alright kidda come here and be our 3rd choice left back behind Cressy and Whighty or if that doesn't suit ya you can try and get past JET, Martin, Carson and Murphy, when he signs, on the wing"

Despite the optimism from the people who still seem to think PJ is a great manager - this surely demonstartes that under PJ and Clegg something is fundamentally wrong. Players choosing Luton over us is not a good thing. People can paper over the cracks if they like - but this is worrying. That's FOUR players now who have chosen other clubs. The only player we have signed is injured and played for a club relegated from the league.

PJ has to do better. He was the one who wanted players in and deals done before pre-season. he only has afew days left. Poor.

How on earth did that happen?

We get linked with so many players, most if them are made up!

I hope someone at the club comes out and explains this situation. Would be interesting to hear how far we went, and his reasons for staying at Luton.

If other clubs offered him terms also then it certainly seems like he's just after first team football.

He's young, so maybe he's gambling on making his way up the leagues a bit later?

This may not be as strange as people make out. Was he going to come here and go straight into our first team? Probably not so maybe PJ not being able to guarantee him frist team football could be a deciding factor. However it does probably show that we're not enough of an attraction for fringe players to come and want to play their way into the team, or could this just be that he wants to be the big fish in small pond type player? He certainly wont be the main man at PR

I'm extremely grateful for all the work that Phil does, but when stories seem to have very little substance, seems harsh getting people's hopes up, In a way it's encouraging the negativity people are moaning about. 100% behind Jewell, hopefully there will be a story soon that doesn't involve Ipswich being second best..

Garv not being funny why would the club come out and explain when at the end of the day this is media talk? We are linked with so many players who knows who we really are trying to land and what is just paper talk/rumours. I suspect that Jewell/Clegg etc have better things to do than to report back on every linked player unless there really is some truth behind it? Not getting at you, we both sing from the same hymn sheet normally, simply making a point!

Yeasayer - absolutely spot on. These links are getting ridiculous. It gets people's hopes up and also must cause unrest with the current players who must think their position within the club is under threat etc. Might explain why so many players delay signing new contracts.

Whilst it is admirable the work that Phil does - all this linked rubbish must stop.

I suspect there was no guarentee of 1st team football & with little or no reserve team football at Town he probably decided his development would progress better by staying with Luton. It's not always the club or the manager's fault!!

The standard of football in the BSB Premier is particularly high compared with a lot of the League 1 and League 2 clubs. So surely a regular place at this level is something for a developing player to value. Tough environment all round for a club like ours, who have to keep trying to land the next Cressy.

Journalist Dave Gooderham on Twitter - "Before anyone questions Jake Howell's motives, the #ltfc player himself has just told me he didn't know of any interest from #itfc"

Yeasayer added 15:02 - Jun 27
So if there was no interest, how did the story end up on here? Ipswich seem very good at keeping targets secret...

BTw, just bought ITFC fleece off ebay. Seller none other than "Cleggster"!
