Scotland's Contract Settled
Sunday, 20th Jan 2013 23:45

TWTD understands that Town have agreed to settle the remaining months of striker Jason Scotland’s contract. The 33-year-old’s time at Portman Road was previously due to end on June 30th.

Speaking two weeks ago, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that Scotland’s spell with the Blues was coming to an end: “Jason is likely to be going somewhere. He’s been fabulous, Jason, he’s such a lovely character and a nice man, he’s been great around the place.

“But we’re going younger and hungrier, I guess, and unfortunately Jason’s missing out. But he understands and he’d like to go and play football somewhere in the twilight of his career.”

Doncaster Rovers, Wolves and Saturday’s opponents Barnsley are amongst the clubs understood to be interested in signing the ex-Swansea, St Johnstone and Dundee United man, while Brighton and Preston were also previously eyeing his situation.

Scotland joined Town for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £1 million from Wigan in August 2010. The former Trinidad and Tobago international made 59 starts and 38 substitute appearances while with the Blues, scoring 21 goals.

Elsewhere, Norwich City are reported to be leading the chase for Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp, who has also spoken to the Blues since being told be could leave the City Ground earlier in the month.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international is available on a free transfer and the Canaries are understood to have offered him terms until the end of the season with first-choice John Ruddy currently sidelined.

Not a surprise given the number of strikers on the books.
Always gave his best for us but time to move on. No doubt he will bang them in at league one level, all the best Jason and thanks for your efforts.

Thought Jason was worth the one year, reduced terms contract & am a little surprised he didn't get a look in with Chopra being so worthless this season.
Best of luck Jason, you still have something to offer at this level.

Ellington should have been paid up in the summer. Only ever did it at Wigan. No idea why we sighed him in the first place!

Decent servant who deserves a bit of respect for his time here, time to move on though for him and us.

Thanks for everything Scotland, but never really seemed in Mick's plans. Best of luck for the future

Disappointing in a way. He was pretty fabulous when called upon last season, but clearly hasn't really been up to much this season and looks to me like his legs have gone somewhat. Think he'd be good at league one level.

Represents more money wasted by Roy Keane, but provided us with some good moments and I wish him luck.

As soon as we signed 3 strikers in a week you just knew Scotland and Ellington would leave at the end of their contracts.
Can see McLean signing for us now Campbell won't be coming

See Campbell is in talks with Hull.
In a way glad we did not sign him, he would have done a great job for us but think we would have to replace him for the Prem, in McGoldrick we could have a player who will still be at the right age for the Prem.
Lets hope McGoldrick can carry on scoring as he did with Coventry and we will have a younger Campbell

Thanks Jason, you tried your best and had to take ALOT of trash from many of our fans under Keane. Wish you the best of luck and hope you go somewhere and spread the same amount of happiness and good-spirit as you did here!

Can Ellington be far behind ? Wouldn't miss Edwards, Chopra or Martin come to that. They are not up to what is needed so why hang on to them?

Likewise Lee Barnett, and to be honest JET

On their day etc, but we need players whose day is every day we play, not sometimes, when it suits, when they can be arsed ....

Forget sentiment, the squad not only needs a massive overhaul, but a recognition that the work for 2013/14 starts now. If they are not going to be

Always worked hard for the team, often isolated with very little to work with, scored some great goals too. Would be a great acquisition for any League One side.

just find it weird these kind of stories break late on a Sunday? Good luck Jason

Wished Jason had been playing Sat tbh: suffice to say not overly impressed with what I saw from either of our new strikers!

Apparently he's told MM he wants to play in the US, so expect Palace to announce his signing next week!

May not have the legs any more but could still show our current crop the way to goal. Great finisher, would crucify them in League One. Good luck Jason, it's been a pleasure.

Good luck Jason. You have scored some very good goals for us...many of which were also engineered by yourself.

I'd go as far as saying one of Keane's best signings. Always tried hard and he was a great target man to have when needed! All the best Jason!

Odd situation really. Obviously not one for the future but the timing of his contract ending unfortunate really. A better finisher than some we have, I'd say. Similar to Campbell, in that he could be worth a year but not more, and why would either of them want that at this stage of their careers?

All the best to Jason for whatever he does. Far as camp is concerned he can go do one if he'd rather go to the budgies till Ruddy relagates him to the bench, wich he will, than sign a contract with us.

Thanks for the goals & good luck fella. Will be a very good signing for a league 1 team right now. We didn,t get the best from him as he was generally played up front on his own then had the ball hoofed aimlessly in the air to him, so to score as many for us as he did was quite an achievment. Good luck.

Agee with Pinewood, also have to say that there are other strickers at the club that deserve to have been shown the door before him. At least he looks as though he cared about the club and his part in it when played.

Time to move on, not in MM's plans. scored some cracking goals and some vital goals for us, always worked hard and had real battling qualities. This was evident when he came on against Brighton , actually looked like something could happen when he came on. Wish him well.

This is all part of MM's big clear out....COYB
