Milne: Town Not Up for Sale
Tuesday, 12th Feb 2013 16:51

Joint-managing director Ian Milne (pictured left) has dismissed claims that Town are up for sale. Rumours that owner Marcus Evans is looking to sell the club he bought in late 2007 have been circulating for a number of weeks, gaining pace on Twitter earlier today.

However, Milne, who took on the role of joint-managing director along with fellow board member Jonathan Symonds after Simon Clegg’s departure last week, has rejected the claims.

“Unsolicited interest has been expressed from time to time, but none have involved any serious offer or any attempt to follow up," he said. "The club is not up for sale.”

Everything has its price........

What has been investment to date?
- cost of old debt £8m + (value of current debt - value of old debt)

What would it take interest ME in selling up NOW?

Good- I know he has had his critics but after the recent debacles at Pompey(bankrupt) Forest(managerial merry-go-round) and now seemingly Leeds(selling again) I'm grateful for the relative stability Evans brings.

Couldn't agree more. Although he may not be a footballing man he has brought stability to the club and to a degree backed his managers too. Much rather have Evans than some Tycoon from Kuwait who will undo all the hard work we did to get out of administration this time 10 years ago! Think if Evans can really back McCarthy in the summer we'll have very exciting times!

Good, as I prefer Evans to the interfering owners that many clubs have who run the clubs for the purposes of their own egos. That said, the recent lack of investment in permanent players and reliance on loan players is a big worry that could see us relegated to League One (hopefully not!).

Thanks for telling us which one he was, I wouldn't have known. These two need to make themselves known to fans and explain their roles. So, one is a solicitor and one an Information man? Can we ask why they were selected for the role ahead of an experienced football Chief Executive? Also, how will decision making work with two of them and how will their roles be split?

Is it just me, or does “Unsolicited interest has been expressed … but none have involved any serious offer or any attempt to follow up” just translate from diplomatic director-speak to “He's open to offers”? Also, “the club is not up for sale” merely denies it is expressly on the market but doesn't deny he's trying to offload.

If it was not for Mr Evans we would have been just like Pompey or worse. Well done Sir just ignor some of the buffoons who comment on here

I would normally dismiss this as being a non story but why all the heightened speculation? As the old saying goes there is no smoke without fire! The Olympics are over and now Clegg has gone and we don't have a like for like replacement only 2 existing members of the ME Group. Yes on the face of it this is all nonsense but personally I wouldn't trust ME as far as I could see him!

To sell the club it would be beneficial to reduce the liabilities as much as posiible. One area would be the wage bill as that carries over a number of years,

Best way would be to have as many short terms contracts as possible ie loans.

You could also get a few higher earners off the bill, CEO ?

Clearly, despite the rhetoric, Evans has little or no interest in the club - and curiously the club accounts are still to be made public. three months overdue ......... hmmm ?

My my, good Chopra has started some rumour this time hasn't he. Accidentally , of course. He'd never bring the Club into disrepute , would he !?

Mark

I understand the MDs will be doing some press once they're more familiar with their new roles.

...... this rumour doesn't surprise me at all - many of these type of people play around with Football for a while - many of whom are NOT real Football people at all.

Just look around the game and current ownership of other Clubs - it's there for all to see.
The entire game has lost much of the credibility it once justifiably had.

Olympics over - Clegg gone - Watch this space.

Iv been saying that all along muzza, I feel that without the financial stability he has given us, we may not have had a club to support.

oh what a surprise...NOT. h 32 is here to comment on a negative story. no, the rumour(and thats all it is), doesnt surprise you. maybe you started it. but yes, its possible there is something to it, tho unlikely taking into account that the club are in debt to him and the only way hell get his money back is for the club to get to the premier league. its most unlikely anyone would pay enough for the club for him to wipe out what hes spent. of course, like nething else, everything has its price but i personally hope as i suspect theres no truth in this as, as others have said, i wouldnt want the type of owners that pompey among others have. despite the lack of success so far at least the club is stable. and for those of you slagging off these 2 guys, you should be ashamed of yourselves. didnt think that offensive comments were supposed to be written on here. but dare say youre youngsters who dont know any better.

As with anything such as this there will always be denials, the board would be very unlikely to admit to anything if it were in early negotiation stages.
I'm not sure what I believe or what I'd want either, as with many clubs who have had foreign investment it doesn't always work out, having said that the Evans era hasn't exactly worked either but in coming in when he did he possibly stopped the clubs financial crisis from worsening.
If a new owner comes in and backs Mick with the right decisions then I would be happy, unfortunately too many times with this sort of thing we see complete change and it can often go very wrong.

taylor15 .. Clegg not said to be responsible for any form of debt, but threw away options to sign decent signings, that may have put us in a better position in the league

Can't see there being too much in this story .... but as someone has already said, no smoke without fire. Still, let's keep the faith and hope that there is no truth in it as I hate think what might happen to us if some foreign consortium were to get hold of us!
