Emmanuel-Thomas: Time for New Adventure
Monday, 6th May 2013 12:45

Midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas says it’s “time for a new adventure” having been told he can move on by the Blues. The 22-year-old and striker Michael Chopra have been informed that they can leave Portman Road this summer if offers come in, despite having a year left on their contracts.

The former Arsenal youngster tweeted: “Time for a new adventure, had a great time but my time is up. #ThankYou”

Emmanuel-Thomas made 43 starts and 32 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring nine goals, having joined from the Gunners in the summer of 2011 for a fee which could ultimately have reached £2 million had various clauses been triggered. Chopra has already said he won’t necessarily be moving on.

Keeper Arran Lee-Barrett and midfielder Andy Drury have been told they won’t be offered new terms when their contracts are up at the end of the season, while Lee Martin has rejected much-reduced new terms.

We understand keeper Jason Brown, who signed on a short-term deal in March, is now also set to be released.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be a decision we'll regret. Of course JET doesn't fit MM's preference of playing 4-4-2, but I still think he could develop into a useful player..

Have 20 x more respect for the way JET has spoken out about this compared to chopra. Good luck wherever life takes you.

JET definitely handled this better than Chopra, I know he has had his problems but JET has always been one of my favourite players, always had the ability to make me get off my seat when 30 yards from goal, always has some skill in his locker, he just needed to use it at the right time, ala his cross against Bolton.

A player I will definitely miss and can see at the right club becoming a very good player. However after what Mick has done since taking over I am happy to go with him on this in the hope it allows him to get his own players in and get us promoted. Have a feeling if it was Jewell or Keane selling JET then I might just be a bit more angry rather than disappointed.

It's a shame, could be an incredible player one day, pity it wasn't for us. Thanks for your skill, you made dull games exciting. Good luck JET.

Shame his energy level couldn't match his ability level. Good luck to him tho.

Best of luck.

Despite being a bit unpredictable on the pitch (and on Twitter) he can be a very capable player when he wants to be. I'm not sure if he's our best attacking player or our least reliable luxury player - perhaps it's best to say he's been both.

A new club might be what he needs to find form and consistency. He's one if those who could perform better on a bigger stage and think he'll end up at one of the promoted teams.

I'd be rather sorry to see JET go, would be great to see him get back to unleashing those booming long-range shots to terrify goalkeepers and he's obviously got some good team spirit friendships going.

Best wishes if he does go.

Jet - another player who has had his chances at a struggling club and blown it !
Certainly has talent but not enough effort or commitment.
I for one will not miss him although he has the skill to make the grade at championship level and is certainly worth a fee.

Yep - you got to look at the players who really delivered for us on a regular basis this season and JET and MC were at best 'bit part' players - the others no real surprise and not reaally gonna miss Lee Martin
I am sure MM has some better players lined up - he aint done bad so far

Well I think he is a luxuary liability. He has tools in his locker but doesn't have the temperment to go.with it. He looks good if players stand off him but as soon as they close him down he is like a lost sheep. But does have a vicious shot though. But good luck in league one as I feel thats your level. If he had that big rocket up.his back side then he could be a great player but can't see it. Arsen saw it pj eventualy saw it MM sees it thats why its good buy. We can't afford luxuary players like this now. Likes of lawrance and Marriot ECT need the space on the bench. And defo can see Marriot making a impact later on next session as they say watch this space

The fact that Martin and Jet look to be leaving, along with the fact the Carson looks unlikely to make the grade, must mean we are targeting a couple of wingers at least. It looks as though Tabb is coming, but aside from him we have no real options out wide at the moment.

Firstly, thank you Jay for being rather more respectful on Twitter to the fans than your colleague. Best of wishes to you for the future.

It is a real shame it hasn't worked out for JET, as he has superb skill and those long range shots are a real asset. If even Mick and Terry can't get the best of of him though, sadly a move on may be for the best all round, especially if we have to pay Arsenal more installments for his fee based on appearances etc.

Now I am disappointed by this. Towards the end of this season it seemed that JET was starting to understand his role, by coming off the bench and trying his hardest, which could have lead to more starts and more impact from the lad. His attitude seemed to be in the right place, especially in comparison to other players. MM must have decided he just doesn't have time to mould JET into the player we all wanted him to become.

I wish you luck JET, and hope you have success at whatever club you move to. Regretfully I think he could come back and haunt us in the future.

I like JET, but he is very much a luxury player. It may be worth cashing in on him now?

real shame as i think jet could kick on next season.
coming off the bench he can give us an edge as well.
sad to see him go.
also sad to see lee martin go.
always gave his best and has been a regular under mick when we have been in play off form.
whoever replaces him will have to strike up a good relationship with cresswell to ensure we rewmain solid down the left.
i can see martin going to a team who play 4231 and doing really well.

realistically we have no left mid now as think tabb is really a CM so mick will have to bring in 2 players capable of playing there.

we have edwards and taylor capable of playing on the right although i do like michael antonio from s wedneasday.
can play either wing or up front and has incredible pace

We will regret this. And I think it will be one year at least before we can say 'I told you so' to the incessant JET moaners.

When MM brought Jet, Chopra and Martin on against Birmingham , my heart sank thinking that there would be a place for any of these three next year. Fortunately, MM has shown continuing good judgement in seeing that these three are central protagonists in the darkest of dark eras for us and that we have top get rid to move forward. All three have given us a grotesquely poor return on the eye watering amounts of money they have "earned". Jet is lazy ( never forget some of the embarrassingly inept performances like Villa cup tie away and a whole host of others) Chopra is a kn*b ( to treat a club that has tried to dig him out of his self made holes with such disrespect is sickening) and Martin is a loose cannon who has cost us time and again. We should celebrate their departure and trust in MM's judgement to replace them with men we can respect and support.

Its amazing how some supporters are so biased with their opinions. This man you want to call JET has performed miserably as has a certain Mr Martin. Yet one seems to evoke more sympathy than the other. Get over it, neither are good enough to be part of a squad that needs to gain at least a top eight finish next season. 75 appearances of sorts and how many were memorable!!.....Mr Martin stands more chance of coming back to 'haunt' us than this man you chose to call JET...as I said get over it.....

I am not surprised by this. Despite his unarguable talent, his performances have not had the consistency. Hence he has not been able to establish his place in the side.

Whilst he had the ability to beat players and get a shot in, the accuracy of those shots were generally appalling. His desire to get back and defend when we didn't have the ball was one point of concern when he first arrived and that left Carlos very exposed at the back.

Having said that I did think he was beginning to benefit from MM and TC influence and was becoming a more rounded team player.

He hasn't gone yet. His contract has not been terminated, it just that he can go if offers are received. If no acceptable offers come in he will still be a Town player next season. Perhaps he could still flourish although it is clear that he has a lot to do to establish himself back in the first team.

Personally I think he sees that his time is up, but I cannot see him moving on and being such a huge success that it come back to haunt us. I wish him all the best wherever he ends up.

Perhaps he needs to move down a league where he can establish himself and get some confidence and swagger back

He has been lazy and has just expected to be in the first team in the past but recently he has stepped up his game and tried to work his way to the first team. I will miss him and am another fan who thinks he will find his talent and haunt us in the future.
Good luck at your future club Jet.

We will regret this. He was one of the few highlights of many a dour Championship match. He's only 22, and has shown signs of fulfilling his undoubted talent of late. Very short sighted of the club. I thought the plan was to strengthen (or at least not weaken) the team this summer? I can see this myopic decision returning to haunt us ala Rhodes.
