Ex-Loanee Campbell Weighing Up Options
Wednesday, 29th May 2013 11:50

Former Blues loanee DJ Campbell says he could move on from now-Championship QPR this summer with his contract at Loftus Road up this summer. Campbell, 31, was with the Blues between October and January and ended the season as Town’s top scorer with 10 goals from 17 games.

With Blues manager Mick McCarthy having expressed his interest in keeping the striker, Campbell subsequently joined Blackburn on loan, a deadline day permanent switch having failed to go through in time.

However, his season was curtailed in early March by a foot injury after only five starts, two sub appearances and no goals for the Lancastrians.

Campbell says he’s currently weighing up his options: "I'm still under contract but this is my last year so we're speaking to a few people at the minute, as well as QPR.

"It's the club that I support so we will look at it and we will see what happens and hopefully we can sort something out soon.

"It's my team but every manager is different and they have different plans so it's just football, I'm experienced now and 31 so I know how it works.

"Within the next month or two we should know something but at the minute I am just trying to get fit again and that is the main thing."

Whether McCarthy will renew his interest in Campbell remains to be seen, however, an approach seems unlikely until Michael Chopra, who along with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been made available for transfer, has found a new club.

Meanwhile, we understand former Town keeper Brian Murphy is set to sign a new contract at QPR with his current terms up this summer.

Elsewhere, former Blues midfielder Owen Garvan has signed a new two-year deal at Crystal Palace, who won promotion to the Premier League at Wembley on Monday.

The Irishman was one of three ex-Town players to feature for the Eagles during Monday’s play-off final in which they beat Watford 1-0, with Damien Delaney starting and former academy schoolboy Stuart O’Keefe coming off the bench. Ex-Blues keeper Lewis Price was an unused sub.

Today is the 13th anniversary of Town's 4-2 play-off final victory over Barnsley.

Did well for us and if we are looking for a replacement for Chopra (not difficult shoes to fill) we should look else where, as said feel the momentum has gone and we should move on.

DJ Campbell was a quick fix - and a remarkably good one at that - but I wouldn't want to see him back. His goals were vital and helped us back on the road to recovery but unfortunately Campbell is the wrong side of 30 with rather high wage demands.

His character is also in question after the shenanigans during contract talks at Hull.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher has been released by Blackpool - some may laugh but decent, scores, creates, strong, powerful - would rather have him than Murphy

Things have moved on. Its not going to happen

If for no other reason than our wage structure is not going to come up with a figure that will interest DJ!

without Campbell's goals we'd have been fcuk'd last year.... but he has chosen his path and it leads to the dark side. No ill feeling from me at all towards the guy but it would be extremely two-faced if he signed up for town proclaiming to love the club after following the cash before.

Can't see anywhere saying Taylor-Fletcher has been released but, if true, he would defo be a good signing in the Championship depending in wages. That said, we know Murphy fits in with the team and does a good job.

As for DJ, would 'arry do a swap deal for JET? Generally agree with the consensus on here - he came and did a great job for us but now we need to be looking elsewhere for the future.

Campbell would be a guaranteed dissapointment should he be signed for us.. Leave it be in my view.. can understand another forward not arriving for sometime. Would like to see Chopra and Thomas turn their game on and surprise us

No thanks - if we do need a striker then lets yet a young gun in to support the other guys. McGowan on the other hand looks just what we need and maybe that's what Mick has been talking to Lennon about.

Campbell firmly believe did not mislead us, he mislead himself. He seriously thought he'd get playing time back at QPR. After returning, reality set in and he knew going on loas was really his only option. I hold no grudge or resentment.
