Released Brighton Midfielder Linked
Tuesday, 4th Jun 2013 14:53

Town are reportedly one of a number of clubs set to hold talks with released Brighton and Hove Albion central midfielder Gary Dicker. The 26-year-old is said to be interesting several Championship sides including the Blues, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

Dubliner Dicker began his career in Ireland with UCD, spending time on loan at Birmingham City during 2006/07 but without making a first team appearance.

In May 2007 the 6ft 2in tall midfielder signed for Stockport County, who were then in League Two, for a fee of £40,000.

In March 2009, he joined Brighton on loan, making his switch to the Seagulls permanent the following summer on a free transfer.

The former Irish U19 and U21 international was a regular for Brighton during their 2010/11 League One promotion season.

He has remained in or around the first team at the Amex in their two Championship campaigns and made 26 appearances last season prior to his release last month.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Andros Townsend has been banned for four months, three suspended until 2016, for breaching football's betting regulations. The Tottenham wideman, 21, was also fined £18,000.

Townsend made 14 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues during a loan spell during the first half of 2010/11, scoring once.

Probably our level.
With a small wage budget, I reckon this is the type of player MM is having to look too.

Looks like another player be looking around for the best offer, we all know how Mick works we'll know about a deal when the deal is done and rarely before. Think it's time to ignore all these links and wait for the deal is done headlines

Never seen him play. Do we reckon Mick has more than 5p to actually spend on a player or are every player we get linked with going to be on a free?

@Michael11 - We are perceived to be poor, so every player we are *linked* with is going to be on a free. The players we are actually after may be a different matter.

Just get N'Daw and stop faffing about with these mediocre little wimps!

Released by Brighton as not good enough for promotion chasing side and therefore not good enough for us either

MM likes a big unit in the middle doesn't he?
Think I prefer the sound of Marlon Pack more.

You don't have to spend big to get out of this league. Palace got up on a small budget, MM can do it for us.

People complain about the constant links but at least it means Chopra's face is no longer peering at us on the homepage!

I to would welcome N'Daw but he was reported to be on a very large salary from his parent club, think he's hoping for more cash then we can offer.

Please dont sign Ndaw, i dont fancy watching another season of first time balls looped over the defenders and out for a goal kick.

Why do we want to go for other teams in our divisions fringe players? If they aint good enough for them why us? don't get this at all. We should be competing with clubs for the best talent from league one and two and abroad

Is this coming from a source in the know or is it just media speculation ? We can only wait to see the results of the MM , TC and scouts work that is done out of the public eye .

I have just put a thread up on the forum summarising Brighton fans views on Gary Dicker. They think that he is a decent League One player and a squad player at best at Championship level.

His lack of pace was constantly criticised. His distribution was praised, but could become a weakness against better teams who deny him time.

I think that it is down to whether Mick has seen something that he can develop in the player. Reading the Seagulls comments left me thinking that there actually may be limited potential to work on.

Just spoke to a Brighton mate about him. His word to describe Dicker was 's***'. Case closed.
No to N'Daw.

If true, I would be very disappointed if we can not compete with the likes of Middlesboro and Sheffield Wednesday. I realise the likes of Wigan, Reading and QPR have more money available, but surely this is the type of player we can attract with a low wage available?

I respect peoples opinions of players and he might be s#'!, but in my opinion delaney never did much at portman road yet he won promotion with palace. Shows what a change of turf can do.

We shouldn't be so quick to judge players that aren't deemed good enough for other clubs in this division. I'm sure we all remember happily waving Delaney off this time last season. He is now part of the nucleus of the Palace team that have just been promoted to the Premiership.

Would be an improvement on Hyam and N'daw, but that doesn't say much

We already have Chopra, not sure we need another Dicker...

Another day another link, yet again nothing from the club about players that MM wants, why now just wait until players actually sign??

Tractorog added 19:34 - Jun 4
I doubt we will be signing N'Daw until his court case is settled one way or another.

i doubt dicker is actually rubbish it will just be the small amount of idiots at brighton like you get at every club saying that.
