Slovakian Keeper Linked
Sunday, 30th Jun 2013 10:18

Former Dundee United man Dusan Pernis is the latest keeper to be interesting the Blues, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. The 28-year-old Slovakian international, who has also been linked with Aberdeen, is a free agent having left Polish side PogoÅ„ Szczecin at the end of 2012/13.

The 6ft 3in tall keeper is said to have eyed by the Blues after the move to re-sign West Ham’s Stephen Henderson on a season-long loan hit a snag.

Pernis, who has won six full caps, played youth football with hometown club FC Nitra before beginning his senior career with another Slovakian side MFK Dubnica, subsequently moving on to Zilina, during which time he spent spells on loan at FC Senec and back at Dubnica.

He joined Dundee United on a free transfer in January 2010, making 116 appearances for the Terrors and helping them to win the Scottish Cup in his first season.

Despite being keen to stay in the UK, and having a trial at Leicester, Pernis moved to Poland and newly-promoted Pogoń Szczecin a year ago but left this summer.

Having released Arran Lee-Barrett - who we understand trained with the Blues last week as he looks for a new club - and Jason Brown at the end of the season, Scott Loach is currently Town’s only senior goalkeeper.

Manager Mick McCarthy will have one, probably two, new keepers on his summer wish list with former Bristol City and Colchester man Dean Gerken training with the squad in Ireland next week.

Elsewhere in this morning’s papers, ex-Blue Titus Bramble is reported to be interesting Turkish side Besiktas. The 31-year-old is a free agent having been released by Sunderland.

And Bolton are claimed to be ready to offer Blackburn £9 million for 23-year-old former Town striker Jordan Rhodes.

I haven't seen him play, but it seems that he wasn't good enough for Dundee United, Leiceter or Pogan Szczecin so it's not a promising start.

The decision to sell Jordan Rhodes just looks worse and worse.

Gerken and now pernis. I see a trend emerging.

If he's not going to cost anything we can at least give him a look. Seems like MM is scouting far and wide for his new keeper.

I don't think I quite believe the Rhodes story. Weren't Bolton recently reported to have been in about £60m of debt?!

Jordan rhodes is of absolutely no concern. And this guy is an international goalkeeper. Do you just want to moan.

Bramble is crazy if he goes to Turkey.... not exactly the friendliest place in the world.

Any play on words with Pernis in sounds wrong and ... I'll let you guys play around with it and stick it where you like...

How can Bolton spend £9M (if true), and we won't spend a single penny?!

Personally I think Loach should be first choice..haven't been that impressed with any of the keepers we've been linked with (apart from Henderson) ..still can't understand why we can't have ALB as 2nd/3rd choice?

Sounds like a good signing.
As for Jordan Rhodes - it is time to move on.

If Henderson is coming on a season long loan why are we being so obsessed on other goalkeepers?

At the risk of being called a div by Ely blue agree with Jas.
I realise that clubs have to get their finances in order;but I think you will find that sanctions do not come in until next season 2014/15.
This season clubs are allowed to overspend by £8m,then £6m and £5m in subsequent seasons.
One could say therefor that this is why other clubs can outbid us;so ME if he so desired could allow Mick to spend money on a star player if he so wished instead of making him rely on Bosmans and other clubs rejects.
Its his choice but we must not be lulled into thinking that Mick has to operate on spending similar money on players as we were 30 years ago which is what had happened since our excellent manager took over last November. The reason being FFP because it isn't.
Lets hope we are all surprised when another player is actually bought to aid the promotion push.Hows about Dos Santos whos team I believe has just been relegated from La Liga.I can but dream as I am a DIV.

I think it about as likely that a thousand Poles come to Ipswich to watch a Slovakian player as Dos Santos signing for us. Still who knows? The 1,001 of them would be very welcome.

His record is pretty good. His time at Dundee he played in all their matches and they won the Scottish cup. He does seem to leave at the end of every contract and to leave on loan if not the number 1 choice. He is a reasonable age. I think on paper a good signing.
