Terrier Ward Linked
Sunday, 18th May 2014 12:17

Town and Wolves are reportedly showing interest in Huddersfield Town winger or striker Danny Ward.

According to the Sunday People the Terriers are set to offer the 22-year-old new terms with the Blues and Wolves both eyeing his situation. Ward’s current contract is up this summer but Huddersfield have an option to extend that deal.

Ward, who has previously said he is happy with the West Yorkshire side and is keen to stay, was a schoolboy with hometown club Bradford before joining the Leeds youth set-up and then moving on to Bolton.

While with the Trotters he made two senior sub appearances and spent time on loan with Swindon, Coventry and Huddersfield. He made his move to the Terriers a permanent one in the summer of 2011 for a fee believed to be in the region of £1 million.

Ward, who is naturally left-sided and 5ft 11in tall, was a regular in Mark Robins’s side during 2013/14 and scored 10 goals.

Elsewhere, the Scottish Sun reports that AFC Bournemouth are the first club to make a move for St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean, who the Blues have been eyeing for some while.

The 22-year-old Scotland U21 international, who is also believed to be interesting Tottenham, Everton, Stoke and Leeds amongst many others, is out of contract this summer but would cost around £350,000 in compensation.

Meanwhile, Town owner Marcus Evans is joint-143rd in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List with his wealth estimated at £700 million, up £75 million on last year’s equivalent.

The Sunday Times Rich List is based on "identifiable wealth"; land, property, publicly-quoted shares and other assets, but not bank accounts to which they don’t have access. Other estimates elsewhere have previously put Evans’s wealth nearer to or above £1 billion.

Surely Stevie May from St.Johnstone would be a worth a look? He's been scoring goals for fun and has fantastic ability

Yes please. I'll also be very annoyed if Bournemouth sign McLean.

Bournemouth have agreed terms with Gosling so hopefully they will stay away from Maclean. As for Ward, decent, versatile and attacking player. Yes please!

Ward is a quality midfielder and the sort of player we should be looking at signing, remember huddersfields midfield ran rings round us at portman road and believe it was him who scored against us. If there are other more ambitious clubs in for mclean then we will lose out, thats sad but ultimately where we are at the moment, what with strictly adhering to the farce that is FFP

Would be nice to gain a £1M player on the cheap rather than lose one this time.

Come on Evans, give McCarthy some money to spend. Doesn't have to be £10m-£15m like Keane got but just enough so we can go and get his actual targets rather than any freebie we can get!

Michael11, I agree completely. Even 1-2 million would be a great kitty to have in order to try and secure a quality winger and midfielder. I still like Liam Trotter, quality passer of the ball and plenty of guts, shame we let him go and now he's gone on a permanent deal to Bolton.

This would be fantastic! Definitely a top, top championship player. I think I recall him demolishing the left wing and bombing up and down with intense place. Would love to see him in a town kit.

If we want to press on to he next level, we have to be spending £350k on a player. It's not millions, it's not unreasonable, but coud e the difference between success and failure next season. I refuse to accept that clubs lie Bournemouth are able to pay fees and we aren't.

michael11. while I agree it would be nice if me was to give McCarthy 1-2 mill, the problem is that me can only invest 3mill into the club this season in total, in order to meet the ffp. (including the money he puts in to service the debt each year), so therefore the only way we can spend money on transfer fees will be from the money we receive for cresswell. as for ward? while yes, hes a good player, but this seems a pointless story if as it says, Huddersfield are going to offer him a new deal and hes keen to stay. could only really see his mind being changed if a prem lge team wanted him or was made such a good wages offer that it too hard to refuse.

Well this 'linked' transfer target is definitely the most exciting one yet, it is one of our weaker positions and seems like a promising/young player who scores a lot of goals as a midfielder. Three words, Get him in!!

700 million and we are scratting around picking free transfers up and being out waged by clubs like Yeovil last season when they signed Grant? Evans you bloody tight wad!!!! Im not asking for stupid money, just enough to be competitive.

@blues1

Forgot about these FFP rules! Does anyone know if we sold Cressy, is that money allowed to be used on top of the £3m maximum we can use because of FFP?? So say we sell him for £3m, would we technically have £6m to spend?

Right ME has got his money by being very shrewd and clever. If he's serious about itfc then he can be a bit more shrewder and find a way of backing it an giving some money toward signings. If not then we all know exactly where we stand.

I would think the tax M.E. pays on his fortune would get us a few good additions so come-on before they get their hands on put a bit Micks way!!!!

Not so bothered about 1 or 2 million being given to buy players, would prefer Mr Evans to clear the £80 million the club has in debts

blues1 added 07:47 - May 19
Yes michael11. The 3mill evans allowed to put in is from his own money. All transfer money, sponsorship, etc is classed as extra income and can therefore be used in any way the club wishes.that doesnt mean wed have 6mill to spend because of money put in for running of the club but certainly transfer money can be reinvested.

It is a bit upsetting when we don't appear to be able to bid a fee for players because of FFP. I an not particularly anti FFP provided we all are playing to the rules. What I would like to know is............

Will the FA publish the results of investigations into FFP so we can see those who have abided by it and those who have not?

Will we see adequate sanctions against those who have chosen to ignore it?

Whilst many supporters on here would not see Bournemouth as a bigger club, if they are being run on a more sound financial footing than us and therefore, able to pay fees for players, then so be it. However, I do not see FFP working unless each club's finances are open and transparent for scrutiny.

The only way the FA could stop teams flouting the FFP is to dock them points the following season.....?
