Mauritian International On Trial
Sunday, 20th Jul 2014 17:29

Mauritian international midfielder Kévin Bru is joining the Blues on trial this week, according to various reports in France.

Paris-born Bru, a 25-year-old free agent, was a youth player with IFF Clairfontaine and Rennes, where he made his break into senior football when he made two Ligue 1 sub appearances in the 2006/07 season.

Set-piece expert Bru, who is 6ft tall, continued his career in the French second division, spending time on loan at Châteauroux and Clermont Foot before joining Dijon FCO on a permanent basis in January 2010. He moved on to US Boulogne a year later and then spent 2012/13 with FC Istres.

Last season, after a reported €250,000 move, he scored one goal in 26 appearances in Bulgaria with Levski Sofia, with whom he played twice in the Europa League, before leaving at the end of the campaign.

Having won U18 and U19 caps with France, Bru switched international allegiance in 2011 and has won two caps with Mauritius. His older brother Jonathan has also played international football for Mauritius and is also a free agent having been released by the Melbourne Victory in January.

Boss Mick McCarthy gave his squad the weekend off but the players are due back at Playford Road on Tuesday to continue their pre-season preparations ahead of Wednesday’s friendly at Colchester (KO 7.30pm).

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Stephen Henderson will join Charlton having left West Ham by mutual consent.

Well I guess someone at the club thinks he's worth having a look at at least!

Is he a tough guy? Could earn the "Irn Bru"nickname ?

Good to see the scouting network has been in utilised in a positive way and mick is good at unearthing gems, but when we need a goal scoring, creative midfielder it doesn't jump out at you. Watch this space I guess, good luck

Could be what we need if reports on this guy are correct, interesting to read that Stephen Henderson(looks like he's off to Charlton!!) has left WHU by mutual consent and is now a freebee! have we missed out on what I thought was a better no/1 than we already have??

So he's played twice for Mauritius in three years? Doesn't fill me with excitement but let's give him a chance. No harm in a trial. The only worry I have is he doesn't seem to score goals. We already have 4 or 5 midfielders who can't score as it is!

His nickname is Iron apparently.

Not sure about him. My parents are from Mauritius and I'm sure there are better players than him to sit on the beach. My concern is the number of clubs he has been at so far - journeyman, moves on when bored or not good enough long term. My family in Mauritus forgot he was Mauritian as hasn't set the island alight

With a CV like that, doesn't excite me too much, if at all.

But, of course, the all important thing is : He's a potential FREEBIE ........ a key requisite.

Wait for it !!! ....... some on here will no doubt have him down as ' world class' before the day is out.

.......... I wonder if we will ever actually 'pay' for a player again .......... just a thought !!! ....... but could easily be a reality.

We need a creative, goal scoring midfielder. This guy scored one goal last season. Not great. We need GOALS.

Blue boy 1981 - concur with your concerns . Worse, we are now expected to believe the Cresswell money is to fund loans. Despite the fact we budgeted for loans and MORE permanent players last season!very disappointing.

Blueboy - did we not just pay Notts County a six figure sum?

Jimmy86 added 19:17 - Jul 20
Dozells bobblehat we got the bart man on a free but money will be owed to notts county if we get promoted and they had a sell on fee included. No fee was paid by the club though

Bobblehat ............. you may be right - but according to MM, no fee involved unless we get promoted and /or we sell Bart' on. In MM, I guess we have to believe / trust - that's what I keep reading and being stated anyway !!!.

The only reason we are looking at him must be because he is free!

Is this the best we can come up with...

jas0999 added 20:31 - Jul 20
Dozzellsbobblehat. No. No fee. Despite the fact we were told money would go to improve the playing squad, we have no intention of spending it on fees. Shame. It's frees and loans. How on earth we will compete with even the likes of Brentford who are going to spend on fees?

I come back to the point that we funded loans and more permanent players last season ... Without the Cresswell money. Frankly, I feel conned!

Not being funny but It is annoying that all the clubs above us are spending on good players , yes if Taylor plays this season he could be the man we were missing but we have 3 mil to spend and in need of a bigger squad

Cry sake he's just a trialist, he will most likely leave and be deemed not good enough come the end of his trial, he's just on trial to see what he's like at this level. It's not like the guys signed can't believe people are giving MM stick for giving a guy a trial!!

LWNR2013 added 21:15 - Jul 20
He's prob paying for his own ticket and accom. Loads are given trials, doesn't mean we sought him out.
