McCarthy Looking For Taylor Replacement
Thursday, 14th Aug 2014 19:45

Town manager Mick McCarthy says he’s looking for an additional striker now that Paul Taylor has moved on to Rotherham United. The 26-year-old has joined the Millers on a half-season loan.

“With Tayls there until January, I hope to bring someone in as a replacement,” McCarthy told the club site.

“My stance hasn’t changed from last season and Tayls needs to go out and play games.

“If he plays regularly and gets some momentum going, then he may get back whatever it was he had before.

“Let’s hope he does, for him and for us. If he does then there might still be a home for him here, although I doubt it very much under me but we might be able to sell him on.”

Taylor’s departure has triggered perhaps inevitable speculation regarding the possible return of ex-loanee Jonny Williams, the Crystal Palace man having been spotted watching Tuesday’s game at Crawley.

Speaking after that match McCarthy said nothing should be read into his presence at the tie: “He’s come to watch the game, I’ve not had any discussions about him with anybody else. He’s come to watch his mates play, I would imagine.”

williams would be a dream to have, interested to see that tunnicliffe is also now available being dropped by Magath to U21 squad.

Wayway. Did you see the game against Fulham for example? Thought it was very entertaining in my opinion. At times last season, and this season too, we will have to grind out results, however, there's times where we play good football too, like for the 2 goals we scored on Saturday. The championships all about balance, especially when we don't have the largest squad.

@Vic - Williams was more of a No10. supporting the striker rather than an out and out striker (Mick played 4411 a lot when McG was injured), anyway wasn't Taylor more often than not played out on the wing other than when Mick adopted the 443 (not often)?

...actually think now Pulis has left there will be even less chance Williams will come here, the new manager will be told by coaches he has potential.

Disappointing, still think Tayls has something to offer. He lacks end product, but dont tell me Nouble is any better.
For those talking about Sharp, do you even know how long it's since he last performed consistently? I wanted him in 2012, but since then he hasnt done much

Will somebody for love of everthing Blue please explain the attraction of Nouble, the mans hopeless, we are desperate for a proven striker, if Golds gets a knock or is injured again we are screwed, yes we have the new lad but as yet unproven!

Never given a run.

When he played he played well and showed attributes no one else did, bar perhaps McGoldrick.

Strange one.

Cant see Mick going to Palace, not with the likes of Sherwood, Mackay, Lennon and Moyes available

Everybody bashing Nouble - at least he bullies defenders, helps create scoring situations and puts away a few goals himself. In comparison, Taylor has scored one goal and had one really good game in 1,010 minutes of football. Nouble scores every 505 minutes, so is exactly twice as effective as a striker.

Think people need to stop have a go at McCarthy on this one. He clearly knows something we don't . He watches his train daily and he's clearly not doing something he should be. I feel sorry for him as he was once a great little player. Micks doing what he thinks is best.

I wonder if Nouble has a brother.

Jobs too cushy here for Mick to move on...

Guthrum that is complete nonsense. Nouble has scored 3 goals in a town shirt, having played many more games than taylor. Yes he runs around a lot, but so does Mo Farrah!!! Big Frank is just not upto it and couldnt score in a knocking shop!!!

Nick Powell from Man Utd on loan would be a fantastic addition. Can play upfront or as an attacking midfielder. Proved he can score goals at this level last year too.

Monkey-blue ... Spot on! Hopefully now he has gone the Taylor fans can move on. I saw him a few times and he is average at best no where near big or strong enough. Coupled with his off the field record he has no chance. We all have to suffer at work with the odd idiot and this is no different.

Bergholtblue - ha ha, very good! Maybe also a cousin who's a creative midfielder...

On a serious note, I'm not a big fan of Nouble's (probably because he's not very good at football) but I have to concede he was effective when played in a wider position and allowed to run at players. That he actually does quite well...

As for Taylor, I had the dubious pleasure of sharing a couple of beers with him on a train back from an away game last season (long story). Nothing too controversial to report, but you can tell he's a wrong 'un. If he wasn't a professional footballer, he'd be up to all kinds of naughtiness...

I Think MM has been pretty restrained in his comments about Taylor. I can't see where he has overstepped the mark at all. The difference between what Mick has said and what he would really like to say is probably vast. Well done, Mick, for standing your ground and telling us like it is without resorting to defamation and slander, which might involve legal consequences.
