Mings Agrees Terms With Cherries in £8m Deal Thursday, 25th Jun 2015 15:51 Town left-back Tyrone Mings is understood to have agreed a four-year deal with Bournemouth after Town accepted their bid of £8 million, with Brett Pitman and winger Ryan Fraser both set to move in the opposite direction.
Mings has agreed the terms subject to a medical, having held talks with the Cherries this morning, after being given permission to speak to them yesterday.
The deal, which it's understood could potentially rise to £10 million after the usual milestone clauses and includes a sell-on, is expected to be confirmed on Friday.
While Bournemouth striker Pitman is, as reported earlier, expected to join the Blues in the next couple of days in what's a separate deal - a free transfer according to local media on the South coast - Scottish U19 and U21 international winger Fraser is also due to move to Town on loan for the season as part of the Mings move.
Fraser, 21, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013. Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who operates on either flank, primarily on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring two goals. He is contracted until the summer of 2016.
News that the Cherries were targeting Mings broke yesterday when SkyBet slashed the odds of the 22-year-old making the move to 1/6.
Mings was watched by most of the Premier League last season with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.
Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million, rising to £10 million, again once further clauses were taken into account.
The Bath-born full-back joined the Blues from non-league Chippenham for a now-famous fee of £10,000 in December 2012.
Former U18s coach Russell Osman brought him to Portman Road for a trial on the recommendation of his son Toby, a team-mate of Mings, who had been released by Southampton as a schoolboy.
The one-time mortgage advisor made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.
Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
The Mings and Fraser and Pitman deals are likely to be completed on Friday, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to have his season-long loan confirmed.

Yes a good deal the young man deserves his chance in the sun. A pity that the same management did not want to take the alleged £10 million offered for Mc Goldrick almost a year ago. It is doubtful that there will be a serious signing. MM is good at finding solid journeymen. Still preseason is nearly with us lets hope for a slight change of tatics and a fine start to the season.

Parr isn't ready to replace Mings at LB and neither is Tommy Smith. We do need a new Left Back and will have to expect to shell out a fair bit for a decent player.

I don't comment much, but some people on here have really wound me up. There seems to be a general sadness and negativity concerning our position in relation to Bournemouth's. Along with that, is a general feeling that Bournemouth show more ambition than us, because of this purchase. I would like to point out a couple of important points: Bournemouth have just received a huge sum of money, because of their achievements in attaining premier league status. Your perceptions of who is showing "ambition" are merely determined by how much money is being spent, and which team is buying the expensive player, rather than by looking at the whole picture. This view is distorted by the money involved. We are showing RELATIVE ambition in the championship by buying one of their players, and also taking on another of their player's wages and having him help us out in the championship for a season. We are also going to be receiving £8mil, to spend on whatever Evans fancies (hopefully, not another lick of paint in the Cobbold stand...) - probably player's wages, who we will find in the free transfer market - which has served us very well indeed. Another key point I would like to highlight is some attitudes of how Bournemouth, a club which not-so-long-ago had volunteers with charity buckets outside the grounds on match days, are now in a healthier, more dominant position than us within the football league. Whilst this is true, I think it is important to look at the positives in our stay in the championship. We have managed to avoid doing what so many other clubs have done after relegation from the premier league: fallen down the football league, and struggled to get back up. We have survived, with (for the past two seasons) next to no money, and thrived under Mick. Mick knows what needs to be done, and he has obviously weighed this move up carefully. This is the beginning of Mick's 2015/16 Ipswich Town squad - and I'm excited to see the final product next May. Whilst we are not in Bournemouth's position - we can celebrate our stability, and our growth under Mick from being a bottom of the league side, to playoff contenders. Our squad will improve - not in the way everybody expected - but by Mick's way. Good luck Tyrone Mings. I suspect we'll see you regularly on MOTD in a couple of season's time.

You have to admire the way McCarthy goes about his work. If he ends up playing decent football as well this season, we'll be hopeful of a decent stint in the Prem. it's a hell of a growth curve in terms of achievement if he keeps us on our current trajectory... Now. Can we dream of Stearman right back and Williams in the middle? Hmmm, maybe stretching it a bit..!

Clegg out! This sounds like an excellent piece of business. Am interested to see more of the details as they unfold but either option i.e. keep Mings or get big money is a no lose situation especially with two of Bournemouth players coming to Portman Road. For me Bournemouth were the most dangerous and exciting team in the Championship last season. With two of their players lets hope this will influence how we play. Exciting times and well done MM and ME!

Fantastic deal for Town and Tyrone! 8 mil on potential really for a player who I know is young but had a seaso of to halves for me ! Happy with Pitman coming in too ! Could Didz be our goal scoring attacking midfielder? Good luck Ty ! COYB !

oftonblue, MM is also good at finding Gems in lower leagues, this proves that! Also at the time selling mcgoldrick would have been seen as a lack of ambition because we were in great position and who was to know the season that that Murphs was to have, with hindsight easy to be wise, I think the club showed their intent by not selling! An 800% profit, a player of Pitman's quality and Fraser on a season long loan is nothing short of a quality piece of business for the club and the only player we really need let go this summer. Murphy, Pitman, McGoldrick, Sears....Oooosht!

good luck mingsy ... sad to see him go,a huge talent in my opinion,I hope you go on to play for England one day. hopefully we will be playing against him in a couple of seasons.

Yes, yes and YES?! I just hope with the acquisition of Pitman this is a precursor to McGoldrick dropping a bit deeper and becoming our creative midfielder and not to either him or Murphy being sold as well. I've always thought Didz was a bit of an 'accidental' goalscorer - his real talent is getting the ball under and finding that killer pass...

I think it's a good bit of business. Personally I'd rather Mings be sold than Bish, Dids or Murph. Good luck Tyrone. Straight into a team in the Champions League spots!

Good luck Tyrone a good piece of business lets now hang on to the rest of the squad no need to sell unless another crazy offer comes in. Now lets invest some of this money in quality and show some ambition to get promoted this coming season and give us fans something to look forward to after all the bleak years, last season an exception but we must build on it.

Great business for Town at that price. I spoke to an AFCB fan and they are pleased as he's what they need right now and they think they can coach him to improve. They are gutted at losing Pitman who they rate and also Fraser who is pacey. Both sides happy it would seem.

Sell Mings, keep McGoldrick. Thats got to be good. Mick has agreed to sell him, now lets hope we can get some flair and skillful wingers in to give us nous and edge around our solid spine. Plus another central defender to cover Berra when he gets sent off. :(

The sweetener before the big sell-off, goodbye McG and Murph. Hope we can hold on to Tabby.

I couldn't believe it when I heard the reported price tag yesterday afternoon. Pitman is a very useful player, especially at championship level. This does slightly concern me over the future of either McGoldrick or Murphy. 4 decent strikers at the club? All of which won't be happy sitting on the bench. As for Mings, I wish the lad well. But £8m???? I've never seen anything in Mings (and I witnessed 90% of his games first hand last season) that would put him anywhere near that kind of fee. Without doubt, there will not be a better piece of business done by a championship club this season. Well done Town. Let's see Mick handed that money to go one better than the last season.

Keanish, I think your calculator may need new batteries as a few zeroes have been dropped! An 800% profit on £10k would mean we were selling Tyrone for £80k. It's an 80,000% profit. At the end of the day though, my gut feeling is that it's a good bit of business.

BTW that £8m will be covering ME's overheads, so its still loans, frees and trialists with more sales and another hoofing mid table MM season

I know it won't happen but it would be nice if some of this fee (say £90k) found its way to Chippenham.

Very sensible posts as always blue_movies. In one you are saying that we will continue to hoof the ball to Murphy and in another you are saying we will sell Murphy-which is it?

Wow - sweet bit of Billy Business that A young player with alot of talent - any deal we do has to include players and we have a good player in Pittman - not seen much of Fraser but well done MM and ME I like Howe and what he had moulded down there at Bournemouth and hope they stay up Play good football and a young English manager is a good thing All the best Mings and welcome to Brett and Ryan - 80,000% profit - Not a bad return and as Verulam says be nice if a slice went down to Chippenham !
