Knudsen Set for Medical Friday, 31st Jul 2015 09:11
Danish Superliga club Esbjerg fB have confirmed that left-back Jonas Knudsen has been sold and will have a medical and contract talks with a foreign club today. As reported last night, the 22-year-old Denmark international is set to join Town.
An Esbjerg statement on their website reads: “EfB has sold the 22-year-old left-back, Jonas Knudsen, to a foreign club.
“He this morning travelled to have a medical and clarification of the final personal details of his contract with his future club and he is therefore not included in EfB's squad for today's away match in Alka Superliga against Viborg FF.”
TWTD understands that members of the Town management, including assistant boss Terry Connor, have travelled to Denmark to watch Knudsen in action during the first few weeks of the Danish season.
He joined Esbjerg aged 10 from a local village club Hjerting and in March 2010 he made his first team debut against Randers aged 17 and became the youngest player in the club's history.
He quickly established himself as a left-back and despite his youth has already played 153 senior games (including appearances in the Europa League in 2013/14 and 2014/15), scoring six goals. He was part of the side which won the 2013 DBU Cup (Danish FA Cup).
Having impressed throughout 2013/14, when he was his club's Player of the Year, he broke into the Danish national team and has won two caps.
Described as a physically strong player and a hard worker who enjoys a battle, he is also known for his long throws.
With his contract up in the summer of 2016, the Blues aren't thought to have paid a huge fee with some Danish sources suggesting €500,000 (£350,000) with a buy-out clause having been inserted in the deal he signed last summer.
Knudsen, who was previously linked with the likes of French side Marseille and Dutch giants PSV, recently played at the European U21 Championships in the Czech Republic and has also won caps at U18, U19 and U20 levels.
If the move progresses as expected, he could be involved in tomorrow's home friendly against Dutch side Utrecht. Knudsen looks set to be handed the number three shirt vacated by fellow left-back Tyrone Mings when he joined AFC Bournemouth for £8 million last month.

Good stuff. Not going to pretend I know anything about him but he's been described as being a pacey attacking full back who's already played 150 games so he sounds pretty promising to me. Hopefully add a couple more players by the end of the weekend then we'll be all set for Brentford!
Not going to pretend I know a lot about him but seems to tick every box 1.Young 2.natural full back (Means Parr can play RB if required) 3. Fee Paid (Showing ME is willing to invest some of the Mings cash) 4. International already with games under his belt= Good pedigree!
Very interesting signing , No Berra on Saturday week vs Brentford ,so i guess chambers and Smith central ,with perhaps our young right back and parr. What we need is improvement in other areas ,we've replaced a left back with a left back ,thats great ,but we need right back and centre mid players. Coke is ok but hardly the dynamic one we need is he.
Come on some people, moan when we don't sign (when we are doing just not as open as the rest of the league MM would rather keep things to himself), fair enough, but when we do and pay another thing they moan at us not paying some moan we need this or that, come on wake up we are on the verge of a top signing and not a free, so wheres the bad as MM said we are in disscussions with others for other players so watch this space.
Just like others are saying this signing ticks all the boxes. Done a bit of research and it seems he's very good technically as well as being physically strong. And if it's anything to go by Mick does like to have the best left back in the league ala mings and cressy ;) Also I like the fact it frees up Parr to be Mr Versatile again. I don't think he's a starter but good cover for left back and right back

Everything about this signing sounds good. - Young player with massive potential - Hard working - Fee likely to be less than £500,000, to replace a player sold for £8m - Already established at senior level despite his age - Plays for a good side who have had good results in Europe - No rumours until deal pretty much done - Good scouting - Club prepared to spen money on fees, for the right player when not being ripped off
Sounds like an unbelievable coup for us...great age with plenty of experience...the sort of player we should be getting in...let's hope there are no last minute hitches.
You're getting a fine, Sympathetic young man - he will be missed in Esbjerg. On another note, he is quite known for his loong throw-inns in Deanmarks domestic league - almost as good as a corner
There's lots to like about this potential deal - but nobody else has commented on the long throws. An extra weapon in our armoury - have always caused us problems when we have faced them ourselves.
@Mullet: - I like your term "Transfer Ninjas". It is a good description of how things have been done by Mick in conjunction with the current Execs dealing with the money and communications side of things. I don't mean to be harping back, but in the days of Keane, Jewell & Clegg (Clegg out) this sort of signing would not have happened & certainly not without lots of talk beforehand, alerting rivals or talking it up before the deal was done. We are all hungry for signings and check in here countless times everyday hoping that Phil has updates. We crave the gossip & speculation, even if we think or pretend we don't. We want to vent our frutrations at perceived inactivity and links to players we don't think are good enough. But the reality is, we are far better off as a club, having the management team in place carrying out their business the way they have been over the last few years. In ITFC I trust.
sounds promising to be honest, the fact he was their youngest player, and has so much experience at still a very young age. To get player of the season is impressive too, perhaps this could be another left back gem, but surely we can't have 3 in a row?
