Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that he will field a much-changed side when the Blues take on Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday. McCarthy made 10 changes for the first round victory over Stevenage at Portman Road.

The Town manager confirmed that 18-year-old full-backs Myles Kenlock and Josh Emmanuel will start, while Wales U21 international centre-half Josh Yorwerth is also set to be in the backline.

McCarthy revealed that 18-year-old former Shelbourne midfielder Adam McDonnell will make his Blues senior debut having spent the whole of last season unable to play competitive football due to FIFA red tape relating to his education.

“One I’m really looking forward to seeing is Adam McDonnell, who is playing now FIFA have deemed that he can play,” he added.

McCarthy also confirmed that new striker James Alabi will be in the squad having signed a one-year deal with an option of a further season early today.

The Blues manager says everyone came through Saturday’s game at Preston unscathed, apart from Tommy Smith, who suffered a minor niggle: “Tommy Smith got a kick on the calf but he’ll be fine for tomorrow if needed.”

He says striker Daryl Murphy won’t be back until after the international break having picked up a calf injury in the Burnley game last week and will miss Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifiers.

“He’s all right, it is what it is,” McCarthy added. “I doubt very much that he’ll be back before the international break.

“I doubt very much he will be involved in the games at international level because he’s still injured. But that gives him a chance to be ready when we come back.”

Teddy Bishop and Kevin Bru are on the way back from their hamstring problems but also won’t be involved until after the internationals.

“They’re all right but I don’t think we’re going to be seeing them,” he continued.

“Bish was always planned to be out until after the international break to give his shin splints a chance to settle down. His hamstring will be fine then and he’ll have been able to get some rehab in and some fitness work.

“Kevin Bru, I saw him on the AlterG running machine and he seems happy enough with himself. I think he’ll be back pretty quickly now.”

Jonny Parr has been ruled out of this evening’s U21 match against Cardiff at Portman Road and Saturday’s first-team game against Brighton.

“He’s trained today, I’ve just seen him. He’s OK but he’s not fit for tonight’s game and he won’t be fit for Saturday either. He’s another for after the international break.

With Bartosz Bialkowski back in Poland following his father’s death at the weekend, McCarthy confirmed that Wales U21 call-up Michael Crowe would again travel along with Dean Gerken, but wouldn’t comment on which keeper would start.

The Town boss sent his and the club’s condolences to Bialkowski and his family: “I experienced it myself. When I was away with Ireland, my father was on his last legs and I flew home from Cyprus to go and see him and it’s important and I fully understood that and told him he’d got to go and do that and get to see him for the last time, which he did.

“We all feel from him and we send our sincere condolences to him and his family and it’s just a sad time for him.

“But he’ll have to deal with it, get on with it and he’ll come back and hopefully get playing like he was.

“He’ll be given as long as it takes. I told him that if it had been me I would have been gone, there’s no question and TC would have been taking the team. Family comes first.”

Looking forward to seeing what McDonnell can do also. Really sad about Bart, Mick managers players so well doesn't he which commands respect.

Don't mind too much if we lose, just want to see those fringe players get match ready for when we need them in the League.

Ipswichbusiness added 20:10 - Aug 24 The arguments for "ringing the changes" are that we are not going to win the competition, we can rest senior players/avoid them being injured and give experience to the youngsters. However, winning is a good habit which we need to maintain. If we are not in the business of winning football matches, just which business are we in? Also, those who pay good money to attend are entitled to expect us to be competitive.

LegendofthePhoenix added 20:21 - Aug 24 Excuse me, but some of you seem to have misread / misinterpreted my comments if those are aimed at me, I said "Whilst it would be nice to get a result" and "I don't mind too much if we lose". That is not wishing us to lose, it is hoping that we get a result, because the more competitive matches the fringe players get, the better. But also it ain't the end of the world if we exit the League Cup, the only target this season is promotion. I would be quite happy to see us play fringe players up to the semi final if we made it that far.

They may not be the first picks, but these youths and fringe players could be called upon (indeed have been, in the case of Emmanuel) to play in the Championship at any time. If they're not good enough to be able to handle Doncaster, how would they cope against Derby?
