Town in New Orange Kit at Reading
Thursday, 10th Sep 2015 12:00

Town will wear a new orange third kit during Friday’s live-on-Sky game at Reading (KO 8pm).

The Blues registered last season’s orange away strip as their third kit for the season ahead but are unable to wear it due to a lack of existing stock and as adidas having stopped manufacturing it.

Therefore, adidas have supplied Town with an alternative orange shirt which will be worn with last year’s second strip socks and shorts when both the current home kit and the Barcelona-style away shirt clashes with the opposition. The orange shirt will not be on sale to fans.

A club spokesperson explained to TWTD: "Ipswich Town have a clause in their supply contract from adidas which states the minimum quantities of any ordered products.

"The minimum order for a third shirt, to be retailed, is 10,000 units in adult sizes and/or 10,000 units in youth sizes.

"This makes selling the shirt a completely unviable option. The 10,000 minimum order quantity is only slightly lower than our usual order for the home shirt each season.

"It’s likely that with its late introduction to the kit line-up we would have only sold through circa 2,000 shirts in this style."

I like it!
What a surprise the Barcelona kit clashes with other teams who wear blue.....

That is awful. Why do we need yet another 'kit' for one game? That is just bad and lopsided.

What is wrong with the 'Barcelona' one? That wouldn't clash with Reading's colours.

It is! That's wrong. It looks like a pub sign swinging in the wind. That just gave me an idea - an itfc bar, The Punch... oh there's the Punch and Judy... so what about The Pungent Judy?

If it clashes with every team that plays in blue will we ever play in it?! I'm guessing they need to rethink the colours for next seasons away kit

I did mention that after peterboro and colu game that we will never need to play in that kit - as its deemed to clash with teams in blue- and that the only reason we change into away colurs

The Barcelona kit is only designed to make money from fans. It's totally impractical

I prefer this kit to the Barca kit, Except for the badge being on the lash

Pre-season against Colchester - Orange
Pre-season against Peterborough - Orange
We'll never wear the Barca kit as an alternative, too close to blue. Waste of time doing it.

oh come on guys. the badge isn't on the huh. its just the way the shirt is sitting. as for the fact we having to use it? as btreeblueblood says, I also stated to mates that I don't think we'll ever wear the Barcelona style kit as it will clash with ne1 who we play against where theres a need for a change. have to say, if that's the case, despite the fact its a great kit I shall be complaining to the club as its a rip off to get fans to buy a kit they never wear. even told the shop manager of my opinion on that before it was even issued.

1. How exactly will that Barca style shirt clash with Reading or is it more to do with the BACK of the shirt than the front?
2. I like this Orange shirt... would rather we had used this instead
3. When they eventually sell the used shirts they will be collectors items

Agree with others the Barcelona kit was a ridiculous choice as it will clash with any team in blue and possibly a team in red. Suspect we will use it for the sake of it at somewhere like MK Dons just to market the product.

As long as it's not sickly yellow (as per 1970s), I couldn't care less what we played in, as long as we win

This is great - the away kit should always be orange - "You've been Tango'd"

Agree with so many here, the Barcelona 'like' style was always going to clash with teams who play in Blue. Therefore when we can't play our first choice colours, not sure we will ever see the new away short worn by Town players in a game this season!

Personally I prefer the idea of a true away kit, as opposed to a second kit. I.e. you wear it whenever you are away from home, not just when the home kit clashes with the opposition.

Didn't hear anyone complain g when the away lot was first revealed...

It does seem beyond stupid that a team in blue has a 2/3 blue away kit. When exactly will we wear it I wonder?

All of matter of taste. Awful kit for me, but I don't care about the kit, just the result.

The short's clashing is apparently why the need for the new kit. Why Town simply don't put their home short's on with the Barca style shirt is beyond me. Surely the club should've retained enough of last season's shirt. Expect the Barca kit to be worn at Leed's next Tuesday now just to prove the need for it.

That truly is one horrible kit. Thought we had seen the last of an orange away kit.

I love it when we have the orange away kit, brings back memories of our dutch connections and that wonderful time in our history. Those were the days

I said the same when the Barca kit was revealed I can only perhaps see us wearing it against teams who play in sky blue - Man City/Coventry, other than that we'll go orange!
I've always liked the orange kits anyway :-)

Rammo added 14:20 - Sep 10
I actually like that kit, would have made more sense to have it as the away shirt rather than the Barca kit. Can't have a similar shirt to last season though as they wouldn't be able to get people to buy the replica's again!

I think it's a much nicer shirt than the Barca one..we should just have an orange away kit every season - most fans seem to like the orange.

Be a shame/mistake if they don't put this on sale to the fans.
