Town Linked With Southampton Winger Isgrove
Sunday, 29th Jan 2017 10:44

Town are reported to be keen on Southampton winger Lloyd Isgrove, who the Saints are reportedly willing to allow out on loan.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the 24-year-old could make a temporary move having been unable to break into the first-team at St Mary’s this season.

Town boss Mick McCarthy is said to be interested in bringing the once-capped Wales international to Portman Road before Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

Isgrove’s first appearance for Southampton’s senior side this season came in last night’s 5-0 home FA Cup thumping by Arsenal in which he was replaced after 65 minutes.

Born in Yeovil, Isgrove came through the Saints academy and in total has made four starts and five sub appearances for the Hampshire club, although his only Premier League appearance was as a sub early in the 2014/15 campaign.

The 5ft 8in tall wideman, whose contract is up in the summer, has spent spells on loan at Peterborough, Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley, who he helped to win promotion via last season’s League One play-off final.

Isgrove, who came on as a sub in Town’s FA Cup tie against Southampton at St Mary’s in January 2015, won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy both with Posh and the Tykes.

Wyscout must be stuck on players aged 24.

I wonder if one of the current players might be a mate and has tapped him up? Loads of possible connections given his career to date.

Decent enough player but i don't want a loan in that position. If you want him so much make an offer to buy please!

24 years old, out of contract in the summer and cannot break into the first team. Likely to be released therefore and worth a try before you 'buy' deal albeit he would be on a free

Looking for young players at Soton is an excellent idea. Isgrove is a tidy little player.

Another loan? Some of us town fans literally moan about everything.
Of course in an ideal world we'd be making million pound permenant signing but unfortunately it isn't the case.
Our best player Lawrence is on loan and some of our worst signings (Knudsen) are not.
Get real and realistic.

I'm in two minds on this. Great if he can come in, we can take a proper look, then sign him for a free in the summer if he does well. However, if he does well it runs the risk of Southampton giving him a new contract to command a fee, other clubs being interested in him in the summer (and we know how that usually ends), and him asking a higher wage from us. I would rather sign him permanently now.

So with these loans it's all about getting a competitive team for the here and now season and not planning for the future? (like our beloved owner points out), unless youngsters or signings like we've just made don't get any playing time they'll never come through to make the 1st 11 and be forever playing in the under 23's or out on loan. Yes Lawrence is undoubtedly the best outfield player we have currently but who wants a side made up of other clubs players?, not me.

Before every starts moaning about a loan, why we do the same deal as we did with Didz?
Loan for the rest of the season and he is ours when the season finishes.

When did we ever sign a player who we were previously "linked with"? It's always someone who comes as a complete surprise. So I reckon this is a non-starter. But I won't t mind if I'm wrong.

Is it not just possible that we are trying to not only build for the future but also trying to take care of the here and now at the same, it is Twop different issues that addressing at the same time. just because we are looking at a Loan or Two does not mean we are not planning for the future too, I think to be blooding Kenlock, Emmanuel and Dozzell is pretty good to be fair, add to that the return of Bishop and the hopeful emergence of Nydam who let me tell you will be a very good player and we are looking to the future, we also have Webster here who is pretty young too and the Three kids who represent England and U18 level etc, I just fail to understand why fans only see the negatives all the time.

As Corrick91 rightly says Lawrence is a loan and without him we would be in the mire lately, where as Knudsen & Ward cost us money and in all honestly are mostly rank bad. Spending money is not always the answer, should this Isgrove come in and be succesful we may just pick him up for zilch in the summer, no point in splashing cash on him now.

This would have 1/2 season trial written all over it if it happens. They let Mings go so let's hope (if it happens) that this another fish that slips through the soton net

With little to play for, surely we should be building for the future. This should include a much anticipated permanent addition to replace Murphy. Short term loans are completely pointless in our position.

people are still expecting a 4 million player,or two 2 million players, I don't see either happening,Its been loans at ITFC for past few year and Evans wont change. We will see the window close with little done, thats not to say I'm unhappy about those recent additions .

I don't understand it when people remark that we don't need another winger. We have one winger on the books having just signed Crowe from Macclesfield. Lawrence is not our player, and it could be argued that Ward is more suited to a central position. Bringing in a wide midfielder would free up Sears to play in his rightful position up front.

Watching Milwall and their no 10 Fred Onyedina really looks like he has something about him.

Will be a useful signing for you . he is a good lad who works hard just been unfortunate with injuries and players ahead of him .
To all those saying he is 5'10" I know it says that on the saints website but wait till you see him !
5'6" I think he wishes he was 5'10" he has always looked very small. I may be wrong but he is a bit wee !

He's got plenty of pace! Would love to see him being given licence to thrill at Carrot Road tearing down the wing and giving their full backs a Sunday lunch nightmare!

I'd take any Southampton Academy player- with classie, ward-prowse, target and all the players they bring through, their academy set up is amazing not to mention bale, Walcott and the long list that I don't need to mention, could find a gem

The point is if he does well here like Lawrence has, everybody will be after him in the summer, like a lot of clubs are now after super Lawrence, and we have no chance of him ????
Just a Thought !

I'm sure he's a decent player as Southampton have produced plenty of talent in recent years but I am underwhelmed about the prospect of another loan player. Another short-term sticking plaster.
