Veteran Blackburn Defender Linked
Thursday, 18th May 2017 16:48

Veteran central defender Gordon Greer, who is leaving Blackburn this summer, is the latest player to be linked with the Blues along with a number of other clubs.

According to Teamtalk, recently relegated Rovers want to keep the 36-year-old, despite the Lancastrians announcing his release earlier today.

They also claim Town, Burton, Bradford, Bolton, Hibernian, Hearts and former club Kilmarnock are also keen on signing the Glasgow-born defender.

Greer moved to Ewood Park last summer having left Brighton after six years. The 11-times-capped Scotland international has also spent time with Clyde, Stockport County (loan), Doncaster and Swindon.

While the Blues will almost certainly look to add to their centre-halves this summer with Christophe Berra having departed, they’re more likely to target a left-sided player to compete with Tommy Smith rather than another experienced right footer with skipper Luke Chambers, Adam Webster and Steven Taylor, who has been invited back for pre-season, all right-sided.

There's scraping the barrel, and then there's scraping the barrel. No thanks...

About 5 years too late....

As some cheap, experienced, cover, then maybe. But that then rules out Taylor who is certainly superior when fit.

That'll sell a few more season tickets...

Now there's an agent desperate to make his 10% go further.

Phil - this is surely another wind up from the management team?

As soon as I saw the word 'Veteran', it set alarm bells ringing, as although I don't think it's a good idea at all and hope this is just agent/paper talk, unfortunately, it's not me making that kind of decision...

So, welcome to the club, Gordon...

Are Town trying to sell even fewer season tickets? I mean come on.....

Amazes me when people come on and slag off the club after we are LINKED with a player in a newspaper or website.
No proof at all at this point that we are remotely interested.

It's all rumour, but if this were to happen then I think we might as well all give up!!

Another rumour but this concerns me as this is the type of player we are only ever going to sign while the great leader is in charge.

What a typically awful, dour, McCarthy type of signing this would be!

This just has to be a wind-up.
The worst link so far this season.
PS is he Douglas in disguise?

Sign him up as our new manager !!

This is an absolute joke if we are considering this sort of player.

Fark Off McCarthy

Try Craig Conway from Blackburn, you've got the wrong Scotsman. Here's the one we should get in. Rowe on one flank, Conway on the other.

Another has been and well past his sell by date. It would be a serious indictment if the club are genuinely considering him.
In other news, Watkins has signed for the canaries apparently. We could be in for a long season again....!

He's been on loan at Stockport County, probably not good enough to make it a permanent move. If he's got his coaching badges and was going to be a defensive coach with the prospect of moving into management as well as having the option of helping out in a dire emergency all well and good but I suspect that isn't the case.

Any news on whether Colin Hendry or even rob Jones are available or are they out of our price range. Dear god how far we've fallen even being mention with these players from clubs who have been awful this season.
