West Brom Youngster Linked
Wednesday, 31st May 2017 14:10

Town are reportedly keen on West Brom youngster Jonathan Leko, who could be allowed to move on loan ahead of the new season.

Leko, 18, has made three starts and 11 sub appearances for the Premier League Baggies’ first team so far without scoring but, according to the Express and Star, could be sent out on loan to gain experience with the Blues said to be the most interested in the highly-rated forward.

The 6ft tall Kinshasa-born frontman, who came through the youth system at the Hawthorns having moved to the UK aged eight, has played alongside Town youngsters Andre Dozzell, Nick Hayes and Ben Morris with the England U17s and U18s over the last couple of seasons.

Contracted to West Brom until the summer of 2019, Leko has previously been mentioned in connection with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

A 6ft tall stricker hoof ball it is then also why go for loan players just means we will be in the same situation this time next year

Power and Pace
the New Tammy Abraham?
Can he keep us up?

Probably Unlikely to get 46 games out of him so we must sign our own centre forward

How many games did dozzell and morris play in?

Highly rated maybe, but he'd still just be a quick fix to a long term problem. We need permanent signings who will benefit us over the next few years while we try and build something. We'll end up losing him next season and be back to square one again!

I'm not averse to this sort of move, to supplement our squad with some highly rated talent. I'm sure this won't be our only addition if he comes, so not too much to complain about this, in my book.

He's 6ft, which is hardly a giant among the athletes of modern day football. Having power & pace upfront is pretty much essential & does not in itself mean he's likely to favour a "hoof ball" type game. Would you prefer us to be linked to a striker who is 5ft 5"?
The idea of us being linked to loan options for such an area that we need stability in is of far greater concern to me than the fact the lad is 6ft tall.

Would definitely take, but it's just another loan that doesn't benefit us. It'll just be a joy to watch him, like it was with Lawrence.

Please get in Maurice Steijn! Take the punt. He plays attractive football, works on a shoestring budget and gives youth a chance, so to me, sounds ideal for this club!!

No problem with season long loans. Players move clubs so often that signing someone and them moving on a year later isn't exactly a shock. The youngsters generally have something to prove, if they can't impress while on loan they aren't going to progress with their parent club. I'm not so keen on short term loans of journeymen but sometimes that can't be helped when the squad is lacking. There's been a lot of criticism about young players not getting a chance yet Town played youngsters more than the majority of teams in the division.

Any new player should be welcomed permanent or loan. Getting a decent squad together is a challenge and we have a manager who really knows this division (just a pity he doesn't seem to know the Ipswich way of playing).

Been following this lads progress since I saw him whilst watching a Baggies game. Looks to get at the full-back and take players on. The exact type of signing I would, and most supporters, would like to see at Town. If true this would be a good start to this summers business

Expect most of the players that have been mentioned are either out of contract,or soon will be.In those cases will probably have to wait until 1st July.

Not sure about loan players though;but only need one or two,as like others agree that loans are only a temporary fix generally.

Lets hope that McCarthy will not be here next season,as if he went this would give the fans a much needed boost;the coffers would also receive a welcome increase i'm sure.

Not sure whether Evans has had his meeting yet,and if a change is not going to happen then don't suppose anything will be announced as this club is becoming a lost cause I am afraid.Something that the bookies seemed to have sussed out as well now.

So why don't Dozzell and Morris get a chance?

Seems the ideal loan candidate a la AMN and Lawrence and already knows a few of our lads so it makes perfect sense. Still it's easier to knock something that might happen rather than see how things go.

Have seen him play for England, a real talent at that level and sure to be a future star. Not sure he's the answer for a 40 game tough championship season though.

I do appreciate, and have commented myself, on the lack of money spent on decent additions but it is now obvious the MM will once again not be given much more than a few hundred thousand to spend if he is lucky. Loans then are going to be the main stay of our team once more. I think this WBA youngster looks the part on the odd YTVideo ive seen. I would rather some young blood like this than over the hill "Sick bay warriors" that we normally seem to attract. Shame that we will start the season with little hope or optimism other than hope we dont get relegated. Sad times it really is.

Question : If MM is away on holiday still (pity it's not permanent) - where do these "Ipswich interested in ...." stories come from in the first place? Whose supposedly asking these clubs re availability on behalf of ITFC

The objective has to be building a team of permanent players who will be here for 2-3 seasons. Get the base of the team first - paying out fees if necessary - then top the squad up with a couple of experienced loanees.

Starting our business with a loan would show our lack of ambition and forward planning in my opinion.

I thought i had heard all the ridiculous reasons to get annoyed about a signing rumour for no reason. Then somone kicks off about signing someone because they are 6ft.

carsey added 18:51 - May 31
Permanent signings please. Loans can be added after if necessary to bolster the squad.

Bluetone added 18:56 - May 31
Please don't sign anyone until we have got rid of the clown in the manager's office. Leave it to the new man.
