Town target Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is reportedly set to join Reading from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

According to the Wolverhampton Express and Star, Icelandic international Bodvarsson is closing in on a permanent move to the Royals.

The news is likely to come as a blow to the Blues with the 25-year-old understood to be top of Town’s wish-list as they look to bring in another striker with Brett Pitman closing in on a switch to Portsmouth.

Discussions regarding a proposed move to Portman Road had been ongoing, although were a long way off being close to a conclusion, with the Blues preferring to take Bodvarsson on loan for the season.

However, it now appears Town will now have to look elsewhere for their second striker signing of the summer.

Pitman is understood to have been at Pompey today to discuss personal terms and to undergo a medical ahead of his free transfer to the League One club.

Mark added 22:50 - Jul 13 It's worrying that a player who has scored only 3 goals for Wolves is "top of the wish-list" to be our new striker, and depressing that as soon as another club comes in for him we seem to have lost out anyway. I note we were linked with a loan more yet Reading expected to sign him permanently. Perhaps we should scotch the rumour about Evans loosening the purse strings. While paying the 'undisclosed fees' for Huws and Garner was welcome we will get money for Benyu and who knows who else Evans will sell by the end of August. No exciting young signings in line with the 5-point plan. 11 players out and 3 in compared to the squad at the end of January.

Thought they'd changed their approach to purchasing players by being more proactive, unfortunately it seems not. Once again it seems like we are dragging our heels on signing players and we are only three weeks away from the new season!

I said at the start of the window we should sign James Vaughan from Bury. Scored 24 goals last season for a team that finish towards the bottom of league 1. typically Sunderland are signing him now for 900k.

midastouch added 23:47 - Jul 13 You can't blame him really. He's got the choice of a team that just missed out on promotion that also plays nice football under a progressive manager. Why would he want to come here instead and play for a team that struggled for most the season and play for a manger that would order him to hoof it like the Denver Broncos and probably be paid lower wages too. The only argument for him coming here is that he'd of probably had a better chance of playing more. As long as he's a proper bloke and he likes to be played out position he might of fitted right in. But alas we'll never know. Never mind, given the key criteria for us signing players is that they must of scored against us there should be plenty of other options! Just providing they don't cost a penny over 1 million as it seems anything over 1 million risks tipping the Marcus Evans Coup balance sheet over the edge! Next please...
