Town Confirm Price Cut as Evans Admits Last Year's Increase a Mistake
Monday, 26th Mar 2018 08:55

Town have confirmed that they have cut season ticket prices for the 2018/19 campaign by 10 per cent throughout Portman Road with owner Marcus Evans admitting a mistake was made when they were increased by 1.5 per cent ahead of this season. News of the reduction emerged last night when the prices were inadvertently posted on ITFC Direct.

As previously reported, a lower tier season ticket will drop from £423 this season to £381, a saving of £42, while a seat in the premium D Block in the Cobbold Stand will come down by almost £100 with similar reductions elsewhere in the stadium ahead of the early bird deadline of Monday 30th April. After that date prices will be the same as this year post-deadline.

Town are continuing with the under-23s and under-16s tickets introduced last season as well as the under-12s loyalty scheme also brought in a year ago.

Fans will again also be able to pay for their tickets via an interest free direct debit scheme.

“I made a mistake last year in increasing prices on the back of a tough season,” Town owner Marcus Evans admitted to the club site.

“This year we have performed better on the pitch in what is an increasingly challenging division but I feel it’s the right thing to do by dropping season ticket prices substantially.

“I hope this encourages current season ticket holders to renew again for next year and acts as an incentive for those who perhaps have not been regulars at Portman Road this year.

“Results on the pitch are the most important aspect of any football club and from talking to the manager and the players, I know supporters have a part to play in that.

"If we are together and united behind the team, it gives the club the best platform to move forward.”

Season ticket packs will start to be sent out from April 3rd when fans can purchase their seats. Current season ticket holders paying by direct debit will automatically renew unless they inform the club otherwise.

Further details on season tickets can be found on the club site here.

News of the price cut has been broadly welcomed by fans, however, many won't make a decision on whether to renew their seats until an announcement has been made on the future of Blues manager Mick McCarthy which seems unlikely to come immediately but is likely to come prior to the early bird deadline.

You complete idiot, the drop in season tickets is not about the prices. He's going to keep MM on!!

Although ticket prices are not top of my agenda, this is good news, coupled with the fact that the ticket pricing mistake has been acknowledged. This will count for nothing though unless McCarthy moves on. Hopefully we will find out this week!

“This year we have performed better on the pitch in what is an increasingly challenging division”
That statement tells me just how little you understand about ITFC Mr Evans.

As a stand alone action, cutting the prices by the 10% is obviously good news. But worry now this is just a cushion blow for a 3 year new deal for MM.

Unfortunately season tickets for £10.00 couldn't bring me back if MM is in charge.

Can also guarantee no news on MM future until after the 30th April

Think I'm going to buy an under 616 season ticket this year, seems a good deal for the age range!
Might want to check the typo Phil!

Its not totally about cost, but the style of football and the manager's attitude to fans. Although the reduction is welcome it will not attract me back. Need a new manager who will try to play decent football.

2 goals in last 9 home game who's Evans trying to kid that performances have improved.
Announce McCarthy is leaving and i will renew, if he is staying they could give me a free ticket and i would not take it.
McCarthy is killing this club with boring non football, negative tactics, at any other club they would be well shot of him.
Every week we are the last match on Channel 5 football highlights show. Just ask yourself the reason.

Erm...technically, we have done better....the table doesn't lie...still time for us to sink like a stone though!

..... and the mistake admitted by Milne about the over 60's hike last year ? Nothing, , so my ticket goes up but if MM stays then I will be better off but the club not so.

Great news. As we family we have 5 season tickets so this is a £100 plus saving for me. And love the fact that our 11 year old can go to every game next season and actually be £1 in credit!!!

He just couldn't be any further out of touch with the fans if he tried. I can't say that we've performed that much better this season. It's not the price of the season tickets that is putting people off renewing, it's who will be sat in the dug out! I fully expect McCarthy to be offered a new deal.

Milne said on 10th March, on season tickets: “It will come out in the next couple of weeks, hopefully some good news on that.” So, a few days late but OK...

And on the manager, he also said “I think the timing is quite important. I appreciate that it's not just the season ticket prices, it's gauging for next season. We're totally into that one and, yes, the two things will come together."

So, having had their hand forced by what was presumably a mistake to release the season ticket prices early, they've failed in their promised timeline to tell the fans what the plan is for the manager.

Whether McCarthy stays or goes (though his position with the supporters is untenable), this is another example of the abject failure of those running the club in communicating clearly and effectively with the paying customer.

Cant criticise that, especially apology. How about the over 60's that were already on reduced rate;they should also be refunded, which would be a good PR move. Also bring back the phone booking system as well.

However the main decision about McCarthys future is still awaited.

I am one of those who gets automatically renewed.I will tell the club to hold fire on this until just before the deadline;informing them that this decision is entirely due to the Manager.

I suggest others do the same ,this way the club should realise that he is the main problem

Any news about reductions for over 60s

Welcome though a 10% reduction in season ticket prices is there are far more problems at the club than excessive pricing.

Firstly MM, and his boring, sterile football has to go, and I personally think he will.

Secondly our illustrious owner has to shape up or sell up. By his own admission the Championship is an increasingly challenging Division and, lets be honest, we are not rising to that challenge in any meaningful way.

The article in Turnstile Blues, quoting people who used to work for the club, and how the Evans regime operates, is a real eye opener. The penny pinching which has clearly been going on for years has to end. If Mr Evans cannot afford to own a football club then the answer is obvious!

Yeah let's all wait for McClaren to be announced as our new manager and renew our season tickets! God preserve us.

Westy added 10:12 - Mar 26
This is welcome news, however, the Club still need to make this announcement in conjunction with the future of the Manager and what the match-day ticket prices will be. Last year, after the Early Bird deadline for Season Ticket renewals had expired, the match-day ticket prices were reduced.

It's a sorry state of affairs when your club drops season ticket prices by 10% and many still complain. Nowhere in this article does it say "Oh yeah, but Mick stays".

The club is listening to feedback. Take the good news, one step at a time.

So Evans you are doing a crafty one here, drop the price of tickets, see how the sales go, then either way announce what you are doing about the management situation ????
you are on a win, win situation here Evans as usual ???
