Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is the latest manager to have been linked with the Town vacancy.

According to the Daily Mirror, Coleman’s future at the Stadium of Light is in doubt following the Black Cats’ relegation to League One, although it’s been reported elsewhere that he wants to stay on, while the Blues are said to see him as a potential target to replace Mick McCarthy.

Coleman, 47, started his management career at Fulham before spells with Real Sociedad, Coventry and Greek side AEL before his hugely successful almost six-year stint in charge of Wales in which he took them to the semi-finals of the 2016 European Championships.

He left the Wales job in November to take over at Sunderland but was unable to prevent the Wearsiders from succumbing to their second successive relegation.

Coleman is just one of a large number of potential bosses understood to have been sounded out by the Blues as they look for a successor to McCarthy. Yesterday, owner Marcus Evans said the process is likely to run to the end of May or start of June.

As previously reported, Tony Mowbray, whose Blackburn side confirmed promotion back to the Championship earlier in the week, is also among those the Blues would like to speak to, but the Mirror reports the former skipper isn’t keen. Mowbray may well have more funds at his disposal at Ewood Park next season than he would were he to move to Town.

Ex-Leicester boss Nigel Pearson, who is now manager of Belgian club OH Leuven and who came close to getting the Town job in 2006, is also said to have declined the opportunity to talk to the Blues.

Luton’s Nathan Jones is another who appears out of the running with the Welshman having recently signed a new contract which runs to 2022 with includes a release clause which is understood to be more than Town would be willing to pay.

In the betting, Wigan’s Paul Cook and Lincoln’s Danny Cowley are now joint-favourites at 5-1 with Bet Victor with Mowbray at 6-1, Shefki Kuqi at 10-1, Shrewsbury’s Paul Hurst at 14-1 along with Mark Warburton and Taiwan boss Gary White, while Steven Gerrard has moved out to 16-1.

We understand the Liverpool legend is someone under serious consideration by the Blues, however, he is currently 3-1 on to take charge at Rangers.

Keane didn't workout, MM did for a bit but spent the bulk of his time referencing Sunderland in lieu of any success here. Players like Jack Colback and Grant Leadbetter, who i had the pleasure(?) of talking personally to just wanted to say how much they loved the NE and basically implied they could not wait to get back. Anyway, Coleman, with his distinctly patchy Club manager career to boot, is going to want funds after Sunderland and it is clear from yesterday that is not going to happen

Don't see Steven Gerard as something to be excited about as IMO needs managerial experience at a lower level to prove himself before taking on a Championship or Premiership role unless there is a Director of football along side him such as George Burley. Not convinced Mogga wants to come back to PR as he has been linked several times in the past and doesn't appear to have had much interest. Cook seems a better option or the Dutch manager perhaps. Ultimately if ME is interviewing plenty of candidates he will get a good feel to the person and how they fit with his 5 point plan and it may well be a name that hasn't been circulated around. Guess we will find out towards end of May.

Too many political issues at Sunderland even before he went hence why Keane jacked it in, Quinn's a saint and still could do anything and even Grayson couldn't manage the team something is serious wrong with the whole club that any manager would struggle.

There in the play offs so with respect to Lincoln won't be announced till end of season. They know how to grind results out ( had to at my local team Braintreefinishing 3rd on lowest budget in the league with part time players in a full time league. Also tellingly it is like grounding day as this scenario was exactly the same as when leaving Braintree for Lincoln ( deal was done regardless of play off outcome) but remained at Braintree till end of season. Also why desicions on hyam , bishop and 1 or 2 others will be made before new manager becomes official. basically managing club now from behind the scenes.

TWTD may aswell just bung up a list of every football league manager cos i'm fairly certain we (and every other club looking for a new manager this summer) will be linked with just about most of them at some point over the next few weeks. The next month or so is going to be very tiresome until we know for sure.

Every manager has to start somewhere even Alex F, Bobby Robson, Don Revie, Brian Clough or BIll Shankly had to be given there first big chance. Look what Keegan and Dalglish achieved. Why couldn't Stevie G do the same starting with the young talent we have here and building from there.
