Butcher New Philippines Coach
Friday, 15th Jun 2018 09:19

Blues legend Terry Butcher has been named the head coach of the Philippines on a two-year deal.

Butcher has been out of a management job since being sacked by Newport County in 2015 and he admits he hasn’t had too many offers since then.

"Becoming a national team coach is the next step for me," the 59-year-old, who is working as a pundit for Five Live at the World Cup before taking charge in August, told BBC Sport.

"People asked me whether I'd fallen out of love with the game but it felt more like the game had fallen out of love with me.

"I've enjoyed my punditry work, personal appearances and after-dinner speaking but there's nothing like getting back in the dugout.

"I know what it takes to play for your country and want to impart that knowledge on my players.”

Former England captain Butcher won 77 full caps and scored three international goals. The Philippines are currently ranked 115th in the world.

The Philippines? Next step? I suppose he was only at Newport. Maybe the step after is a half decent club

Absolute club legend ... loyalty to a declining Ipswich Town in the 1980s was titanic ... loves our club with heart and soul ... deserves total respect rather than idiotic put-downs from keyboard nobodies.

We'll regret not hiring him as boss when the Philippines win World Cup 2022 on a sun-splitting December day in 2021!

Best of luck Terry!

......... typical posts from keyboard juvenile numpties who have no respect for Club Legends - anyone who has such disrespect for Terry Butcher should hang their heads in shame.

AND STAY OF THIS FORUM - which could well do without such people.

Best Wishes Terry - if there is such a thing as justice, you will be successful.
