Danish Squad Fly Knudsen Home to Meet Newborn Daughter
Sunday, 17th Jun 2018 20:03

Town defender Jonas Knudsen was given a surprise gift by the rest of the Danish squad following their 1-0 victory over Peru in their opening World Cup group game in Saransk yesterday - a private plane back to Denmark to meet his newborn daughter for the first time.

Knudsen’s wife Trine gave birth to their first baby a few weeks earlier than anticipated on Tuesday, after he had already travelled to Russia for the finals.

The DBU (the Danish FA) announced last week that there were no plans for Knudsen to fly home to be with his wife and baby, however, the squad clubbed together to pay for the private flight as a paternity present for their team-mate.

The plane was waiting for the 25-year-old following Saturday evening’s victory over the Peruvians, in which the Town full-back had been an unused sub.

Knudsen spent today with his wife and daughter and will return to the squad’s training camp in Anapa on Monday.

Superb stuff. Well done to all.

That said, if it had have been me, I'd have been there in the first place. Sometimes, there is more to life than work. This IN MY OPINION, is one such occasion.

Congrats to the Knudsens.

Errrr... Jas0999: "a few weeks earlier than anticipated"; and he's in Russia. I expect he's gutted he wasn't there. Hence the kind gesture by his teammates.

Congratulations, Jonas and Trine! :-)

Many congratulation Jonas - proud daddy. Doubt he'll give a stuff even if doesn't manage to get any minutes on the pitch now, he'll just be happy to be part of that Danish squad , AND a new dad ta boot . Good on ya Jonas 👍

As per the story, the birth was a few weeks early and came as a surprise so JK wouldn't have been able to get back to be there. Indeed, Denmark's assistant manager Jon Dahl Tomasson says JK was quite shocked when he was told the news that he'd become a father. "He was quite confused when we received the news of the birth," JDT was quoted as saying.
