Town Targeting Chelsea's Chalobah
Thursday, 21st Jun 2018 14:54

TWTD understands the Blues are looking to sign Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah on a season-long loan.

We understand the 18-year-old centre-half has already visited Playford Road to speak to Blues boss Paul Hurst but the clubs are still to agree the terms of the proposed switch.

Chalobah, the younger brother of Watford’s Nathaniel and an England U19s team-mate of Andre Dozzell, Tristan Nydam and Flynn Downes, is yet to make a senior appearance for Chelsea but was named among the subs for the FA Cup final in May.

Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Chalobah, who can also operate at right-back or in central midfield, has been capped by England at U16, U17 and U19 levels.

He joined Chelsea as an U9 and has won numerous honours at academy level, including the UEFA Youth League in 2015/16, the FA Youth Cup the same season and also in 2016/17 when he also picked up an U18 Premier League winner's medal.

Would've preferred us to do everything in our power to go back to Spurs for Cameron Carter-Vickers for another year.

18 is a very young age to take a centre back on loan but he must have something about him to be at Chelsea.

Whatever happened to the lad who left Ipswich for Chelsea. Charlie Brown I think his name is. Kind of disappeared is space somewhere.
Unfortunately this does happen at big clubs academies. Unless your a bit tasty you kind of disappear. Hope I'm wrong. But seriously what happened to him along with the lad who went West Ham

I'd be happy with this. Doing deals around this time of the year would great instead of scrambling in a month or 2's time.

Charlie Brown is yet to make a full professional debut - think he would have been a regular last season but I could well be wrong with this. Currently in the Chelsea U21 squad

Think Sam Ford is playing football at quite a low standard of non-league. Think Felixstowe???

@dariusblue,

following that link, old Town boy Charlie Brown is on there.

"Following his move south, " I love how Chelsea consider a move from Ipswich to London moving south, like its a million miles away.

Why waste money on a loan that will bench warm when we have youngsters of our own.

Is Hurst saying the likes of Smith and Woolfenden are not good enough!

Surely the money involved with a loan deal would be better spent on a player who is actually going to be involved with games.

A young player who trained with the England squad before Russia: a Player who has played a role in Chelsea again winning the Youth cup & making the senior squad at the end of last season: I don't mind these type of player on loan: Hurst proved last season he has a eye for a Central midfielder as Godfrey from Norwich was 1 of the best players in league 1: I think we need a Centre Half, 2 wingers & a Forward as well as Trevor:

So he's in the England youth setup with a bunch of our lads - have we been tipped off by them that he's worth bringing to Town?

stokiehigh97 This is the Ipswich news page. Don' try to come on here come on here talking sense. Please stick to 'another loan, too old, too young, too Irish, too Danish or to just another unambitious signing' comments. We don't want positivity here thanks.

Obviously a talent, obviously highly regarded at Chelsea. Hurst knows well about young talent from leagues above, even if they're young. Look at Godfrey and Morris.

I remember his brother breaking onto the scene at 18 years old at Watford, played with such freedom, was very very refreshing, hopefully he can replicate.

Florida. Who says he will be a bench warmer?

He might play actual games. Is he better than Chambo? Dunno. Might be.

Is he less injury prone the Webster? Dunno, Might be.

CCV was a loan and he played.

And in fairness it might (note MIGHT ) be that it is to soon for Smith and Woolfie who may be set for loans themselves.

I think that question is better asked if at xmas he has only played a handful of times.... then it would be pertinent..... at the moment it's conjecture

Unbelievable reader of the game for a young man, really incredible.

I'd like to see a more experienced CB, preferably not on loan. Building a team, with a young exciting new manager must surely be the desired option. Sure, supplement the squad with a couple of loans once the permanent window closes.

Doesn't look good for Josh Emmanuel

Well he certainly looks a baller in that video, with many strings to his bow. Would not be adverse to this at all. Seems to tick the boxes in terms of a footballing centre half. Likes to go to ground though, I see cards a plenty lol.

This will go down like a led balloon but who is doing these leaks?

I'd rather read ' Ipswich sign player X ' as opposed to the circus that went on pre Mick.

Like or HATE Mick - and I understand both - everyone would be pulling their hair out at

' well who are we going for ' then all of a sudden - BANG - they've arrived.

I'm sorry but reading some of these comments.... This is a Chelsea starlet who trained with England and we can have him for next to nothing for the season. We need 3-4 good, good players to go anywhere in this league. I'm not being harsh in saying that Smith & Woolfe are nowhere near as good as him, because they simply aren't.

Popeye... why does this not look good for Emmanuel ???..Primarily a centre half of which we need especially a ball playing one.
As for others will you get it through your heads Hurst will not be given a 40 million war chest so good loans ( not journey men) & hungry lower league players are where we will be going, then hopefully Hurst Will then unlike McCarthy bring the best out of them & make the most of there strengths !!!
