Jackson Finally Set to Join Town
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 08:09

Town finally appear to have been successful in their move to sign Kayden Jackson from Accrington Stanley with the deal reportedly set to be announced this morning.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, a fee of an initial £1.5 million plus add-ons and a sell-on clause has been agreed with the League One club. Barnsley will receive 30 per cent of the profit Stanley will make on the player they signed from the Tykes for a nominal fee last summer.

Accrington had targeted a £2.5 million fee for the striker, who previously had a spell on loan at Grimsby under Paul Hurst, but that figure always looked wholly unrealistic. TWTD reported that Town had offered £1.5 million more than a week ago.

Town have beaten QPR and Peterborough to land the 24-year-old, who scored 16 goals as Accrington won the League Two title last season, while Saturday’s opponents Rotherham and Preston North End are among the other clubs to have shown interest in the Bradford-born frontman this summer.

The Blues are set to confirm the signings of Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan from Shrewsbury this morning once Martyn Waghorn’s exit to Derby has been announced by the Rams.

Would be a coup (at least I think so). If we get Tilt as a permanent and maybe one or two loans we have done really well in the transfer market this summer! COYB!!

This will be great. Nice to see the manager being allowed to spend the money we've brought in too. If we could get Tilt too I think it's been a terrific window.

@ Phil - Do you think we have been the cause of the delay regarding Nsiala, Nolan and Waghorn. Waiting until we have Jackson as a replacement secured?

A lot of money for a player who has only done it for one season in League 2. I truly hope this gamble pays off, but I'm quite surprised that we agreed to it. Look how good Kiefer Moore was in League 1, but so far he has not made his mark in the Championship. Very risky but we have to trust in the new manager.

Not sure why everyone is getting excited about this signing?? have you not seen his goals per games ratio in his career?? Half a decent season last year in league 2 is nothing to boast about. If you think he will be replacing waggy with his goals from last season there are going to be a lot of dissapointed town fans

This looks a very well negotiated bit of business by the club.It appears they have stood firm and finally got the players they wanted. It would also be great if we were to get Tilt in as well.
Paul will have his own team now so it's up to him to produce the goods in his own style of football. It will possibly take time to adjust but let's all get behind the team.Looking forward to Saturday as I have not been to Rotherham for a few seasons.

Sam Parkin was the man in league 1 and awful in the championship. This guy knocked in 16 for a league winning side in league 2. Gamble that I hope pays off but not excited

Everybody has to start somewhere.Lets just give the lad a chance to prove himself. At least he can find the back of the net, more than some that are about.!

HUGE!!!! Now for Tilt.

Everyone should calm down about this guy. He is stepping up 2 divisions and for everyone that makes the grade, another one fails. Time will tell but not all of these lower league purchases will come off......manage your expectations

Great news!! Lightening pace, hope he terrorises the scummers next month

One thing he has over Sam Parkin or Keifer Moore is pace. Those two players have a skill set that requires a team to play to their strengths. Roque Santa Cruz and David Bentley were an awesome combination in the Prem for Blackburn as Bentley put the crosses in for Santa Cruz to capitalise on. At Man City and Spurs respectively, neither player shone because their styles didn't fit with their new teams. So horses for courses - let's hope Jackson and the other new signings fulfill their promise.

Well PH, we are backing you, ME has backed you (Your judgement in particular), and you have the support staff you wanted. This now IS a new era. Make it a great one starting at Rotherham.... can't wait to get up North on Saturday as for one thing....I have absolutely no idea what our team will look like other than Bart and Edwards.

COY (PH) Bs!!!

Great news all round. Am I right in thinking Jackson is a pacey striker? Similar traits to Vardy and Dwight Gayle then (who both comfortably made the step up to the championship). Every signing is a gamble but when was the last time we spent this much on one player? Hurst must rate him very highly.

There is no substitute for pace and power and Jackson appears to have both in abundance. he obviously improved a lot in a good (promoted ) side last year and there is no reason to suppose he won't continue this improvement this season. Welcome KJ!!

Welcome Kayden. There is a fantastic mood of optimism around Portman Road this season, the best we've had since we got promoted. If that rubs off on all the new signings, it will give confidence and help everyone make that step up. Let the good times roll.
