Town Hopeful of Finally Landing Tilt This Week - Report
Sunday, 26th Aug 2018 09:50

Town boss Paul Hurst reportedly hopes to finally land Blackpool centre-half Curtis Tilt this week ahead of Friday’s loan deadline.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the Blues are hopeful that their lengthy pursuit of the 27-year-old will come to a successful conclusion this week for a reported fee of £1 million. The move would be an initial loan with the deal made permanent in January.

Town have been chasing Tilt all summer with bids of up to £800,000 previously rebuffed by the Seasiders, who have been determined to get the top price possible for their prized asset.

Tilt, who has a year left on his contract at Bloomfield Road but with the Tangerines having an option for a further season, was left out of the Blackpool team which drew 1-1 at home to Accrington yesterday but interim-boss Terry McPhillips said the former Wrexham man was left out as a fitness precaution.

“Tilty played three games in a week and he reported in today a bit tight, so we didn’t want to take the chance,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.

“I think he’s just tight all over. Obviously he missed the game at the start of the season but since then he’s played three. The last thing we want is for him to go pop, so that was the decision.”

Quizzed on whether he expected Tilt’s exit this week, McPhillips added: “Not to my knowledge, we’ll see. No one has told me anyway. As far as I know he is our player.”

Tilt, who is understood to have handed in a transfer request, was spotted talking to McPhillips along with his agent after yesterday’s match.

Asked whether Tilt being left out by Blackpool was related to Town’s interest after yesterday’s match at Sheffield Wednesday, Hurst responded: “I don’t know. I think I had a similar question at the start of the season. I don’t know.

“I’m surprised he hasn’t played that’s all I would say having played the last couple of games and kept clean sheets. Unless there’s an injury I’m not aware of it seems an odd decision.”

However, he confirmed Tilt is a player he remains interested in: “Yes, I’m not going to change my mind and think he’s suddenly a bad player or anything but he’s one of the players [I’m interested in], no secret.

“I don’t particularly like speaking about other players but it’s out there but it’s been discussed numerous times already.”

Blues boss Hurst wants three loanees before Friday, a central defender, a striker and a left-sided winger.

Great news but if we were prepared to end up paying the £1m anyway then this could've all been resolved 6 weeks ago!

So basically we are now paying what we could have had him for several weeks ago!

Not one of our better transfer negotiations Mr Evans.

Lets finally get this done.

So if we hadn't penny pinched over peanuts we could have had him in permanently since the start of the season instead of getting him in on loan?! Nice work Town

It's business!
Has nobody ever gone to look at a car, put in a lower price only to find that the current owner isn't that bothered about selling it unless he gets what he wants?
If you really like the car, you end up buying it anyway for the original price......."some you win, some you lose".
Don't be too hard on PH/ME.

We haven't bloody signed him yet and already fans are moaning that we could have done this sooner.

Good signing if and when it is completed. So if PH wants a left winger he clearly doesn't rate Danny Rowe ? The ‘loan' striker he wants desperately needs to have championship experience !

Yep, like the look of Tilt. Will add some much needed bit at the back and some renewed leadership.

Hopefully that's it sorted, but really should have been done weeks ago. If Donacien was worth £750k with uncertainty over his status, surely Tilt was worth doing a deal for in time for the start of the season. Tilt looks an accomplished player who has easily stepped up to Division 1 standard & is still a good age for a centre half. Could be worth more than we got for Webster this time next year.

Glad paying 25% over the odds is something you call peanuts 81, especially when it's not your money! Do you want to buy my car?

Does this mean a chambers replacement
By the number ofor goals conceded something is wrong with the defence! !!!

A league one player on loan?...blimey

150k in Championship terms is peanuts and losing out for that amount is frankly embarrassing. It just shows what an austerity football club we have become. Some of you will still be backing our owner and seeing no wrong when we're playing Scunthorpe though. You're a special breed!

And it's not or never was 'over the odds' as we're paying it now!

I'm not sure how so many seem to know how much we might be paying. Many times these figures are banded about and quite often they are wrong.

hopefully happens we need another CB especially a left footer, need balance right left not right right or left left like we've had for 5 years on and off

I understand the terms bedsit, that's not the uncertainty I speak of. Will the red tape be sorted in his favour? What happens if he doesn't get to stay, in terms of building a team, continuity, the plan? Surely you recognise that as some degree of uncertainty.
We offered less for Tilt than we did for Donacien, despite the fact that we had adequate cover at right back, some would argue better options, while we were heading into the new season with one recognised senior centre half before Nsiala signed & we are already seeing where that leaves us when suspension and/or injury come calling. You invariably pay more when you are in greatest need & particularly so when you can get who you feel can best solve your problem.

In my opinion we have needed this guy in the side since the start of the season.
I have a mate who lives near Blackpool and he really rates him.
A ball playing left sided centre half, paired with Nsiala will help balance the defence, so a new captain is needed.
Chambers, one of Micks proper blokes now no longer looks a cert to be pencilled in on the team sheet if the loan goes through.
He has performed well and scored some important goals in his time here, such a shame he was played out of position for so long by Dino, I think it's still affecting his game.
Really hope that the ref for the game against narrich let's the game flow and gives us a fair rub of the green, unlike some refs of late, and also that Nsiala's red card gets rescinded in time for Sunday.

Hurst didn't have the funds to pay £1m until the Waghorn deal went through. The Sun's figure is unlikely to be too accurate anyway, if indeed any of the story is.
