Town Down to Third
Saturday, 7th Sep 2019 21:31

Town have dropped to third in League One following today’s games.

While the Blues' match at Rochdale was postponed due to international calls, Wycombe Wanderers jumped to the top of the table by beating Lincoln City 3-1 at Adams Park, while Coventry are now second following a 3-2 victory over Blackpool at St Andrew’s.

Town are next in action when they take on seventh-placed Doncaster Rovers at Portman Road next Saturday.

The fixture at Rochdale, the Blues' first ever match at Spotland, will now take place on Tuesday 5th November.

Crazy decision not to play the Rochdale game to day two players on international duty not even in the team last week keep the momentum going i say. We've now got to go to Rochdale on a Tuesday night barmy.

Crazy desicion not to play Rochdale game, especially as Lambert quite often complains about fixture congestion! This probably will have no affect on our league position but I do feel momentum is key! However I do know there is a good chance it will affect our chances of an FA cup run( would loves us to win an fa cup game) the Saturday after the Rochdale game is FA cup 1st round so I can see him putting out a weekend team in that game in view of the fact we will have played on the Tuesday!

Anyone know why there is no fixture on 2nd nov? Could it be we were meant to play Bury that day?

I'd suggest we trust Lambert and the club on the decision to postpone. Those saying only two main players would have played I am guessing it's more to do with giving some players more time to get fit (Nsiala, Huws, Nolan) and a chance for the likes of Skuse, Downes, Norwood and Jackson plus potentially the back three to recharge and avoid injuries. By the time fixture congestion in November comes back round we should have all except Sears and Nydam back to full fitness. I can see it makes sense though would have liked momentum.

Diss boy his “weekend team” is that as opposed to his “mid-week team”? 😂.
Equally by November those players still coming back to full fitness should be at full strength and others such as Nsala and possibly Sears will be back. Although I agree it's a little bit of an odd move always prefer points on the table to games in hand.

We won't now play our game in hand until 5th November when we will have a sequence of games - Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, rather than on three successive Saturdays (a longer period). The players won't get back home until 3am on 6th November that will impinge on training for the rest of the week. We should have played the game against Rochdale and kept up the momentum. Would have had enough to get something from that game. A midweek game, in my opinion favours the home side more than a Saturday game does. Only maybe one of the players in international call-up would have been likely to feature in any case.

Doncaster in 7th next up: it won't be easy to regain that top place right away. Predicting a draw for this one, but hoping, naturally, for a win.

I agree with Steve re: Doncaster; could be a difficult game alright. They are only 7th because they've played 2 games fewer than most of the other sides around the top of the league and the games they have played have been against some of the better sides. A win would of course be great, but I won't be counting my chickens in advance of this one.

See Sunderland are still favourites to win the league despite being walloped last weekend and despite looking average in a number of their games. Town are now second and Pompey whom have made an average start third.

Yes Dissboy, we had Bury at home.

Ridiculous decision not to play yesterday.

My dear late Dad used to say...

Don't even look at the table son until you are 10 games in, once there the position you are in is likely to be roughly where you will end up come the end of the season. He was nearly always right, with the one exception being Crystal Palace the year Ian Dowie took them on an almighty run from January until the end of the season into the play offs where they eventually won and got promoted to the top flight.

Asfor playing Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday again, hasn't that been the case through August anyway and we have one of the very best squads at this level to be able to handle that even come November I would suggest?

Re Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday due to the moved Rochdale game on the Tuesday, that's not the case as the Saturday game preceding it would have been the Bury match which obviously isnt happening. There's a gap of more than a week before the trip to Spotland.

And if we had have played it and lost people would castigate the club for playing it, some on here need to think more before they post

Bit boring to be top of league for too long..

Grumpyoldman... i did think about it, it should have IMO been played, will definitely have an impact on the cup game after that re-arranged fixture! And more importantly as pointed out by Westy a Tuesday night game away will favour the home team more than a Saturday fixture!

All we are left with is hindsight but we will never know if we would have got something yesterday!

Personally I think it was wrong we didn't play this game. Yes we have a game in hand but a freezing November night it Lancashire really! How many of our “international” players would off actually been in the team? Momentum is everything and I think we missed a trick. But it's done so onward and upward
