Town 'On Brink' of Agreeing Phillips Loan Thursday, 15th Aug 2024 08:46 Town are close to agreeing a season-long loan for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
According to the The Telegraph, the Blues are “on the brink” of doing a deal which would see the England international move to Portman Road and TWTD understands that to be the case.
Completing the signing of the 28-year-old would be a major coup for the Blues, Phillips having been an England regular as recently as last year and overall having won 31 full caps, scoring once.
Phillips has, however, had a frustrating time since joining City for £45 million in the summer of 2022 from Leeds, making only two league starts and 14 sub appearances for the Premier League champions, then spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham where he started only three top flight matches in addition to playing five games from the bench.
Fulham and Everton have also been linked, while Manchester City were reported to ideally be targeting a permanent sale with the Leeds-born schemer not in manager Pep Guardiola’s plans, despite impressing in pre-season playing at centre-half.
The Blues are also understood to be closing in on the loan signature of Napoli midfielder Jens Cajuste, who is reported to be travelling back to the UK, having returned to Italy after the breakdown of his switch to Brentford.

This could be very good for both parties.

Get them both in, they are two top players they have both played international football with a lot of caps. Yes Phillips hasn’t been great last couple of seasons but I’m sure McKenna will get the best out of him. The other fella why not get him in, he obviously has the pedigree to be a great player. Brilliant signings if we get them over the line. COYB

Happy with this as long as the player is hungry and prepared to work hard and learn from the best - Morsy and McKenna. He won't be a guaranteed starter - he has to prove himself by being humble and working as hard as the rest of the squad.

A lot of 'ifs' with Kalvin...if a manager can turn his form around then it will be McKenna.

I think this is great news. In other circumstances I would be wary of a "big name" upsetting the squad dynamic but because of the seasons Kalvin has had I think this is not a risk and he will be an excellent addition.

I really like Philips style of play brilliant at Leeds and England so what he didn't perform at West ham there is a very good player in there that doesn't just go to S**t look at Ross Barkley at Luton last season and now at Villa I could name a few Torres(Liverpool-Chelsea) Drinkwater(Leicester-Chelsea) Lukaku(West Brom-Chelsea-Man U) to name a few so imo this will be a real coup if McKenba can get the best out of him

Goodness! That's really good news if it happens. You don't become a bad player overnight and the combination of him and Morsy with Taylor and Luongo is a fabulous one. Obviously we still desperately need a left sided player to cope with Broadhead's injury and I'm still desperately hoping for a centre back.

A signing like this, and the fact that it becomes the top story on Sky Sports, may even have an impact in convincing other potential recruits to sign for us.

I watched the Leeds documentary a while back. Good lad, nice family and the Leeds fans adored him. Sensible move to stay away from London clubs (and the distractions the capital brings) and who knows what will happen at Everton. There’s a great player in there - fingers crossed it all works out.

Mckenna is going to rotate the two central midfielders mid game with Taylor playing further forward.

Wow! Get this over the line and it's a real statement signing. Loan is as good as we'd get for a player of this calibre. I also think that if there's a manger likely to help him get his a game back it's KM.

So, we are about to sign two international players, and some fans going on about them "not good enough"...seriously, what are some of those fans expectations? I don´t believe for a minute that players in their prime suddenly just "turn bad", it is about motivation, finding the right environment/club and confidence. If anyone can get the best out of a player, it is McKenna. If we can get a few more in I am certainly more confident of PL survival than I was a few days ago. COYB!

Phillips may just need some love, a manager who is good at one on one, which is a lot easier in a small squad compared to 40 or 50 players

Great signing , brings experience and with McKenna nurturing him will definitely turn into a great player I'm sure COYB
