Town Appoint New Head of Analysis
Wednesday, 18th Sep 2024 11:15

Town have appointed Jamie Osman as their new head of analysis as part of a summer shake-up of that department.

Osman, who started with the Blues in pre-season, was previously with West Ham for 13 years, working his way up from the academy to head of performance analysis, a job he was appointed to in January but left following the managerial change at the end of last season.

As a result, Will Stephenson, who has been at the club for more than 10 years, has moved from his lead first-team performance analysis role to head of first-team recruitment (analysis).

Head of recruitment Sam Williams left for a position at Manchester United at the end of last season with his role understood to have been absorbed into a number of other roles.

In addition, Town have also appointed Cillian Callaly as a first-team analyst.

Callaly previously worked in a similar role at Arsenal having been an academy analyst in the Gunners’ academy prior to that and having had spells with Brighton and with the Blues as an intern.

Long-serving physio Alex Chapman left the club at the end of last season after 15 years.

Head of Analysis, most of the people who post on here would fit that roll.

I must admit I am totally lost with how many backroom staff we have?
In this day and age there seems to be numerous analysts plus their support.
I guess I need to move with the times but judging by match days our back room and supporting staff by far outnumber the players.

Great to see. Recommend a book called Expected Goals by Rory Smith as further reading on how these departments work in the modern game. Decent, accessible read with some interesting history.

Not a lot of point in reporting this when the majority of us haven't a clue what the job is. Can the club or someone else explain explain what all these jobs are?

Thanks danger_matt for your explanation but if it takes a book to explain it then I am worried that none of us will be the wiser

I remember fondly our "analysis", playing in Division 11, Sunday morning league...
Question One: Have we got eleven players? Question Two: Are there at least some without hangovers? Question Three: Shall we kick uphill or downhill in the first half?

I’m surprised that Ai has not taken this role over… yet !

Classic_blue could just watch the film Moneyball instead and imagine it was about football, if that’s easier? Using data to analyse patterns of play and player performance for insight into recruitment and tactics is a huge part of all modern sport now.

When KMc has the iPad out in the dugout he’s not doing the Wordle. He’s looking at real time game data analysis.

given that the vast majority of us (me included) don't have a clue what a lot of this all means, it strikes me as odd so many people pretend to know so much about the game.....

I've always thought that a number of sports psychologists could be immensely valuable, do they do that with top level football teams?

How things have changed from when Bobby Robson did everything from coaching, recruitment, negotiating transfer fees, players wages, analysing opponents, probably even arranging pre match meals, looking after players' needs. In fact everything, with a little help from Booby Ferguson & Charlie Woods.

It's all overkill today every club.
Robson, Clough and Co never needed all this tosh. Yes a different era like political correctness world has gone mad.

I have read the article, reviewed all viewpoint, identified any area of strength and weakness in all follow-up posts. The accumulated data has been refined and fed into the latest AI scrutiny tool. In turn it analysed another 1205 similar reports posted around the world. This, combined with predictions from some of best in the game as well as the long term shipping forecast and betting odds of who will win strictly come dancing means that I’m going to stick my neck out with a degree of certainty and say “welcome Jamie..”.

Who is in charge of the membership cards. Still waiting for mine paid £39 well before the season started. Thinking I would be able to get a match ticket easier. I think the supporters who have not got a season ticket are being treated badly!

It doesn't matter if we don't know, as long as he does.
