If Gerrard, Lampard and Parker want to get in to management, they should head to the lower leagues and ply their trade their first. We're too big a club to take a gamble on ex-pros with zero experience.

If the top teams in the world in Barcelona and Madrid can take a gamble how are we "to big of a club" ?

Might have something to do with the fact they are able to afford any player on the planet for their squad..

Whose to say Spurs U18 or wherever he is coaching isn’t better or worse than a lower league team as preparation for a step up. It’s only in this country where we seem obsessed with managers already having first team management experience. It’s no longer about running the whole club. Parker seems a level headed intelligent guy, a leader and out of the former top players linked to us probably one of the better bets....

Having experience of managing a first team sounds pretty sensible to me, there’s hardly the pressure for results with under 18s is there.

Who on here left University and walked into a job straight away managing a whole department responsible for delivering for clients? Likely no-one. Football is no different. Keane had little management experience and look at the farce that was. Its not the time to gamble.

Totally agree. I frankly find it baffling that people support the appointment of Parker. There isn’t any information from which to base this viewpoint. Bizarre. The more I read about Ross, the more I like him.

Eh? The only novice manager either of those has appointed in at least the last 30 years is when Barcelona appointed Tito Vilanova a few years back - and that was a bit different really as he was already their assistant

Its a strange student who has over 20 years experience at the top level of an industry! Most of which in a leadership role!!
He hasnt been studying - hes been working and gained a reputation as an inspirational, intelligent and calm leader. His connections to Spurs and Fulham shouldnt be underestimated particularly if we continue the loan strategy.
Cant see Pep answering the phone to Hurst - but could be wrong.

People support him because he's well known and young etc representing the fresh start we need. I agree it's too much of a gamble.

I don’t think that’s a fair analogy. More like an apprentice who over several years worked his way up to be team leader and worked closely with senior management. He then spends some time learning the key skills of management, whilst undergoing post graduate education in management skills (coaching badges) before looking to step out on his own. Sounds totally sensible and if the guys has got the ability and personality then why shouldn’t he succeed? His character and personality is TOTALLY different to Keane, just no comparison.

I agree with the general point but Keane had actually managed a team and been relatively successful for a while - there is no comparison there with Parker

At least Parker actually has a bit of coaching experience - unlike the likes of Gerrard and Lampard who have been mentioned by some. But the reality is the Tottenham U18 manager wouldn’t be on radars at all had he not been someone people had heard of, which is the biggest issue with this type of link for me

"but Keane had actually managed a team "
That is very questionable isn't it?
Wasn't one of the reasons he was sacked from Sunderland because he very rarely turned up ?
That suggest his underlings not he did the work to get them promoted.

No, he was sacked from Sunderland as after some initial success, he had completely lost the plot and results spiralled

An alternative analogy might be why would you be recruiting the manager of a corner shop to run a chain of medium size shops (lower league manager), instead of someone who had worked in senior positions (captain/youth team coach) and the equivalent of a larger chain of shops/supermarkets.

Parker and other ex-players who have or are coaching have advantages as well disadvantages over lower league managers. Whose to say what's the best path .........well that's for Mr Evans.
