Probably a longer ban due to him missing avoiding the test etc.

Josh Yorwerth on 07:48 - Feb 26 with 3506 views | Superblue95 | So he would have only got a three month ban for doing the test and remained anonymous in the process but because he panicked and skipped it it’s now going to be 4 years?! Crazy decision

Maybe he'd been on the marching powder to think the gaffer loved him? "The gaffer loves me, the lads, the fans, fcking everyone- god I'm sexy. Where'd I leave that wrap..?"

The ban would have been 3 months and he would have remained anonymous. He basically 'dodged' the test - which is a big, big no no. Hard to have sympathy for him, not only did he knowingly take cocaine (his choice), he then knowingly avoided being tested. Two bad decisions don't make a right.

Spot on - he was utterly crazy when making those 2 decisions.

Unless there are aggravating circumstances. Had he been caught before, but allowed to remain anonymous?

It is exactly that, but the difference in punishments are so vast - it's mad. Almost a career ender. I imagine Ched Evans would have been back in the game quicker even without having his sentence overturned

It’s possible, but doesn’t seem to give any indication of that in the article. Yorwerth was stupid and obviously deserves punishment but a 4 year ban seems incredibly harsh when players who have done similar have gotten away with significantly less. It would effectively end his career

The article says the 4 year ban is now mandatory for a missed test so I'm guessing things have changed to clamp down hard on missed tests.

No, he missed a test which is what Yowerth has been banned for.

That little sequence was a question on Only Connect last night. And the lovely Victoria Coren-Mitchell said that the Dutch composer who wrote the music used in it had to sue the makers to get the money he was owed for it being used.

I've read it, it provides a bit of context but I don't think it fully accounts for the differential in bans given that both were ultimately banned for missing tests as opposed to what they had or hadn't taken.

I think Rio 'forgot' to go to the test, and never admitted taking anything. Wasn't he supposedly shopping for trousers in Leeds? In other words, Rio behaved like somebody with a very good lawyer, and Yorwerth has behaved like somebody with no lawyer at all.
