Does anyone else 'love' what they do for a living? 12:32 - May 21 with 9346 viewshomer_123

I genuinely do - and feel that I am probably in the minority.

Don't get me wrong, there are frustrations, annoyances and days when it's stressful etc. but I really do love what I do.

Anyone else?

I like my lifestyle rather than my job so much. If I could do my time again I'd have tried to do something I enjoyed more - it's hard to do that though when growing up in a working class house where you are expected to always be working.

if I wasn't working I'd have a job with my Dad or one of his friends digging holes and cleaning up until I did find a proper job.

Now I'm trapped as earn decent money and have a big mortgage and 2 toddlers - I'm not depressed at all by it, just feel there was more out there that I've missed

I feel the same (about lifestyle being good, not the job so much) except without the comfy money - I help provide the lower end to the London average wage!

Open a club?

I never had you down as a corporate type.

I like the idea of running a club/venue but it's fooking hard work. I'd rather be the other side of the bar, all said and done.

I'm not corporate at all, and that makes it very difficult to progress in my current role/company. But I'm not young, and they like me, and I can get away with sh1t. I have a highly specialised role and a lot of experience. It could all end abruptly but I was self employed for over fifteen years and still make contacts as part of my everyday work and wouldn't be too bothered leaving here.

Similar to one of Joe's points, work affords me a lifestyle that suits but I'm not emotionally tied to my job.

Well played for building the experience to get to that position mr - sounds like you've hit a bit of a sweet spot.

I always toy with the idea of a club or pub, but youre right the work would be immense and in any case, I'd go alchy for sure.

Just such long hours and hard work - and it has to be very successful before you can take a back seat.

I've seen lots of people try with pubs - it's blood, sweat and tears and most will either fail or spend their life teetering on the edge.

Up until 2 in the morning, up to get the kids to school or go to the cash and carry or bank, lunch time get it open and go again....or pay someone else to run it then what is the point?

Yes, we'd be more like Alan Brazil, just sitting around drinking and having a laugh. Thing is, you don't need to own the boozer innit.

It's just the way it's fallen. Was made an offer for full time work five years ago and it was too good to turn down.

I still think I may make it as a rock star and screen writer :)

Feel like I've found a good mix finally...its taken ten years though!!!

I owned a recording studio for a while after studying Music Engineering at uni and then realised I hated it. Then worked in music therapy before moving into education and I now head up the education department at a mental health hospital, full time over four days a week leaving Fridays for Away Days.

I think more people are realising these days that finding a career you love is very difficult and are looking outside the box and accepting less money but more job satisfaction is the way forwards.

It’s a fair question and one I’ve been toying with very seriously the last few months. But as much as I dislike it, the flexibility and liberal work from home policy allows me the time and freedom to help coach my son’s footy team. And that’s important to me (and him).

Suck it up until retirement or make the break... it’s a dilemma!

Bloody hell, buh! That must be a v stressful line of work. Sure I speak for many of us when I say it's not something I could ever do. Selfless, dedicated people like you give the rest of us slackers real inspiration! Must be heart-breaking. Thanks for all your hard work!

It's incredibly rewarding - sure, the little ones do pull at the heartstrings but our ethos is to make memories for them and their families whilst they are with us.

Massive kudos to our nurses and carers, they do a fantastic job in the Hospice and in the community and always come to work with a smile on their faces. I'm proud of all of them!

I'd like to just bolt abroad at some point, but the problem is I'm used to a lifestyle that would be hard to keep upu without a decent job there.....and leaving the EU a bit of a killer.

I go to Cyprus lot where my family is from, and think I could just kick back there with the wife and kids for a few years - guess I need to get into Forex and hope we don't leave the EU

Nope, it's alright and I like bits of it, never dread going into work but overall it's more of a means to an end than a passion.

Some of the negatives relate to the work environment and certain individuals who would probably make Roy Keane seem a good manager in comparison. Others the need to do work out of hours at times, although the flip side of that is that a good amount of flexibility when it isn't busy so the work-life balance is ok (and I don't need to feel guilty about any TWTD-time at work).

On the plus side, I'm doing something new at the moment which is more technical and therefore quite challenging and there is a responsibility on me, and the wider team, to get things right - the consequences of not doing so could be costly.

There are things I've done previously that I moved away from because I didn't want to spend my whole career doing them (electricity regulation for example) that might have lead me to something more interesting now but I would probably have earnt less and done some less interesting stuff over the last 13 years or so instead.

I love being retired.

Working was not so much fun most of the time though.

I enjoyed some parts of some of the five jobs I had in my working life but on the whole I enjoy not working a lot more.

I do, absolutely, but it can be very consuming and you need a supportive partner and understanding friends. Luckily I have those but there is often an element of guilt with extended periods away from home etc. But the pros outweigh the cons, particularly as it has taken a fair bit of holding one's nerve to get to this stage.

Yes - but then it's also frustrating when projects aren't run as well as they should be.

Basically, there are far too many floaters (in both sense of the word) in advertising and marketing generally.

Never loved it but i'm at the more interesting end of what i do which involves historic buildings, items and sites. As others have said it's more a means to an ends which i fell into a bit at the beginning. Didn't work in London first and then moved out, but the other way round so been commuting for 19 years now and it's just too comfortable to move from especially with retirement being hopefully 12/13 years away.
