ITFC Team of the decade - by appearances 08:19 - Nov 4 with 4188 viewsitfcjoe

As per the thread last week, did some digging off the stats and this is our most used team of the decade.

The 11 players with the most appearance fit basically into a 442

-----------------------------Bialkowski-------------------------
Chambers----------Smith----------Berra---------Knudsen
C.Edwards----------Skuse----------Hyam----------Sears
----------------------McGoldrick----Murphy----------------

All those players have made more than 150 appearances for the club in the 2010s, bar Luke Hyam who has made 146.

That looks like the most Mick McCarthy team ever.

Apart from Chambers at the less-than-ideal RB position, that's a pretty strong team - certainly if we get each player at their best.

The lack of goals from the midfield is shocking. That central pairing has a grand total of five between them.

Would probably only need a midfielder with a touch more ambition/composure than Hyam to be a top-eight Championship side this season.

Yeah Chambers and Hyam would need replacing.

And Luke Hyam

Before his injuries he was a perfectly competent Championship midfielder. Nothing flash but he had good energy and was neat and tidy on the ball. All gone downhill for him the last few years but he wasn't a bad player early on in his Town career.

Edwards and Knudsen aside that's essentially the 14/15 play off side, though Sears would have barely played in same team as Hyam and McGoldrick.

That's a great team at both ends of the pitch, but midfield perhaps not so much.

It was probably just me, but I struggled to see what kind of midfielder he was. Didn't think he looked great in front of the back 4, neither did I think he was all that good going forward, just seemed a much about nothing really. Although you're right, he did start off okay, but seemed to tail off, IMO of course.

I think it's a fair assessment. He was never spectacular but was decent and solid enough at Championship level for a few seasons. He got a fairly serious injury and after that never got his form back and at that point he wasn't good enough anymore, but he was capable enough in those early years.

range of passing poor, didn't attack, wasn't really a proper DCM. no idea what he brought other than energy..... but that energy didn't exactly free up flair players because he was alongside skuse.
just a horrible partnership

He was very good in the first half of 14/15 before his injury away at Charlton. In the home game Vs Watford (when Joniesta got crocked) he was immense.

But one of our most successful partnerships if not the most successful partnership we've had over the past decade. Think you're being unduly harsh on Hyam. He was poor towards the end but in his first few seasons he was perfectly decent. Not pulling up trees but more than capable of performing well enough in a Championship side.

We finished top half in every season but one with the bulk of those players. In fact our poorer seasons came after some of them left.
