Nice that an institution founded by an adulterous king in order to facilitate a divorce still sees itself as the ultimate authority on morality in people's personal relationships.

Halesworth church has a rainbow flag flying above it so I am sure that all is well.
Thats the thing: the top brass can say what they like, but many of the little people know whats right and wrong just fine. Besides, in my experience so so many vicars are gay in any case. I just wish the head honchos would stop obesseing about who puts what where

There is no issue about debate around church influence etc..
but read back...an attack on beliefs is not right and an attack on anything they hald scared is offensive.. Agree, disagree, with what the church said, but do not belittele someone because of their bliefs and do not make an important aart of their belif into some kind of pronography - how can any of you think that is acceptable. I would now ask for a clear debate on the Muslim religion. If you want we to start with some public utterances, I can. How are you going to resspond?
What's wrong with attacking sh1t-witted beliefs? Expressing and countering sh1t witted beliefs is the cornerstone of democracy, after all.

The Vicar at West Hampstead C of E church is gay. Top bloke as well. Has turned half the church into a community hub. Post Office, soft, play, cafe, pole dancing (strictly Saturday nights I might add).
Even though I'm anti religion we went there when our 7 yr old was a baby and loved it. A real sense of community.
He also had the coolest pork pie hat since Popeye Doyle.
Churches can be used for good and that's to bring a community together in the way they do in West Hampstead. The religious bit is for the birds.
Oh, I went to the vatican a few years back. Visited the vaults and saw all these jewels and 'priceless' gems. In the visitors book I wrote - "Abhorrent. Sell it all and give the money away." The Holy C sits on piles of cash which should be used for the underprivileged and not kept in gems and gold.
Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

I woud suggest you just ignore them. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything. But you do absoultely do not have the right to belittle or mock anyone who might, or might not, hold any faith or the teachings of that faith. Why are you so engaged with this if it means nothing to do. You know the state protects any individual, so what's the big deal for you?
Well, for me, this is a powerful national institution telling large swathes of the population that their relationships are immoral and wrong. That's a pretty big deal, particularly when said institution claims to representing a bloke who told us to turn the other cheek and 'judge not'.

I wouldn't overplay their power and influence when so many of their own flock will rigjtly ignore this sh1t.

I really struggle with the concept that Edward VIII had to abdicate in order to marry a divorcee given how it was founded...
As for their attitude to homosexuality, it's dumb... But not quite as archaic as another monotheistic religion from the middle East

One of Mrs Badger's mates is a paid up Pagan(she's got the broomstick, candles and cauldron and everything) and on, sending her lad to school, was bemused to receive a letter back from the school asking her to tell her son not to keep questioning all the religious aspects of assemblies as it was 'very disrespectful to Our Lord'. They also went onto intimate that they had 'safeguarding concerns' because the lad(as 5 year olds are wont to do) had been enthusiastically telling his mates about 'how mummy does church'.
She sent a letter back telling them to 'tell your jumped up desert God to wind his neck in'.

I was thinking more of the seats in the HoL, vast property and financial holdings and the fact that so many senior figures appear to have the ear of so many MP's, tbh.

Yes, this I can see. But does it need to be brought down to offensive language about their icons etc, why not just debate.
Bye the way, I not religious at all. My wife is Irish Catholic and my children brought up Catholic, but I have nothing. Just do not accepted the belitting and offensive language of those that disagree. Surely more rational strategy will be more effective if you feel that strong.
Perhaps of they weren't using the veil of 'faith' to belittle and demean whole sections of society people might not get quite as angry and start calling them nasty names? Just a thought.

"I'm anti-religion but look at the good stuff some religious people do"
Like all of humanity, there's a little from column A and a little from column B in religion and religious people. The CofE can "state" what it likes but as Ulla alludes to many CofE'ers people just shake it off and get on with their lives, same as in all religions.
One of the best lines about Anglicanism (and one of its' best truths) is it's religion for people who aren't really believers. It's for gentle nice normal people who like a bit of church, a bit of a sing-song, a bit of socialising, and doing some good with jumble sales and whist drives.

Im sure thats true of some. However, many of those who purport to be supportive of lgbt peopke, when pressed, take the awful and invidious "Love the sinner hate the sin" line. They 'support' in that context.
Incidentally did you see some of the lovely christian messages received by richard coles when his partner died?
The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

I'll continue to use my freedom of speech to belittle and mock a homophobic institution. You can continue to use yours to tell me i'm wrong.
