Selective lobby briefings 15:55 - Feb 3 with 1360 viewsfooters

So the govt. are now restricting journalists' access to lobby briefings, and have been doing so for the past six months. Surely this is the thin end of a pretty nasty wedge? Don't want to get all dramatic but withholding information from selected publications/journalists doesn't smell like good democracy.

Apparently, the reason for doing this is to give access to more 'heavyweight' journalists. If this is true, why is Sky News on the accepted list and the Independent/PoliticsHome not?

All getting a bit Trumpesque from Johnson and Cummings.

Your use of the word 'lobby'..is that 'to lobby' or the beautiful space where you can touch an old man's hand/foot, can't remember? (statue)

I'm not comfortable if it's the latter. Happy to have allsorts doing their thing.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

They would not need to do this if they were confident, hopefully the excluded media will be able to deduce Government actions and intentions by other means (and will have the excuse of not being told the full story when they get it wrong - unlike The Daily Express being given the full story yet still getting it wrong).

They won't send anyone on the Today programme and stopped sending people to Sky news after Burley empty-chaired Cleverly - it's very worrying

To be fair, avoiding Kay Burley is just good sense.

But let's not forget, it's a victory for democracy and the will of well under half of the people. And as you say, just like a hard Brexit it was what we clearly gave a mandate for.

Oh no, they love Phil 'Soft Touch' Ham and his questions about the injured Ginger Bishop. It's the big hitters from the EADT who'll be first out the door.

this is quite a defeat for No 10 and does not bode well for the future given how many U turns, back sliding and broken promises have happen in the first few weeks of their administration

and we still have the report on Russian interference and the Acuri allegations to come out
