Is everyone going about business fairly normally still in the UK? Doesn't seem as much chat about it on here.
I feel the impact more than most in my business but it's everyone has gone into full panic mode and business is not operating anywhere near normal. Economically this will be a 9/11 style hit if it lasts until the early summer. I get the feeling no one is really being tested this side either as the gov tries to play it down in an election year.
I’ve had to! But I’m making good money and being fair. It’s really quick and easy. If you look on the net there are many recipes to make your own. The big problem is going to be bottles. Most bottle companies manufacture here but the caps all come China. Panic buying is going to cost
That's the ticket, put the price up a bit but be fair and blame it on your suppliers - and also factor in that you might not be able to replenish your stock.
Can you not buy the caps from China? Consolidated freight (LFC) is about £70 per cubic metre - that's a lot of caps.

My grandad, long since departed, was a farmer on the Atlantic coast in the ROI.
He used to purchase his from another farmer a bit further down the coast, back in the day, and acted as an occasional runner as a bit of a sideline. Problem was he used to consume the stuff en route.

I may have bought some off him if he was in Connemarra.

The company I work for deals with some big global food and drinks companies (Starbucks, Yum, Diageo etc) all of whom have put travel bans both into and out of their offices.
As for how I see it, I travel a fair bit through airports for work and this week both Stansted and Dublin were eerily quiet even at peak times

More recycling then - good!
A lot of pain for humans, but quite a few silver linings for the planet in this - more recycling (a lot of 10l tubs being used to refill smaller containers eg), less flying etc.
Went into town yesterday for first big shop in 13 days. 4 chemists, 2 supermarkets. Zero hand-sanitizer or anti-bact on shelves in any of them. Boots said new stock had gone on sale at 8.30am, & sold out by 8.40am. M&S said they wouldn't be able to get any more till April. Was able to buy aloe vera gel at Boots, and Isopropylene alcohol online to make my own with tho.
Just returned from Portugal. No cases there yet. They are taking it very seriously and everybody is taking precautions. EVERYBODY needs to take it seriously as it is a KILLER. People can say over reaction or not, but treat it flippantly at your own expense.

It's a shame others don't and keep making pathetic childish jokes about it. If anyone has respiratory illnesses or a relative who has, it is extremely worrying.
What is this goverment doing? Sod all apart from a stupid poster and singing a little song. "Use hand gel and wash your hands" - places are stripped bare of the gel and wipes due to selfish stupid people stockpiling.
I am terrified if I will get it or my Dad. It is making me housebound just about and it is only going to get worse as not enough caution was taken in December/January when we first learnt of it.
What the hell is involving the Police going to achieve?? Maybe sensible ideas like giving EVERY household a weekly supply of gel/wipes/soaps etc, and closing all borders would be an idea. The 111 service are not going to cope and where are the vehicles to take you to these pods going to come from the more people want tests??

Good to see people keeping calm in this time of uncertainty. What example do you want the government to do?

I understand you are concerned but you really should look at it from a step back and at present it is such a low risk and the fatalities are small worldwide - one in UK!. I'm not suggesting you shouldn't be concerned but aside from personal hygiene I don't think there is much more we can do.
What do you expect the government to do? We are blessed at present as a country to have a low infection rate, this is probably down to luck more than any government action but if they close all the airports it would lead to a social breakdown. All government and us mortals can do is think on our feet and react to things as they happen.
No one is making fun of things but it's not unusual to laugh at things in order just to get by.
Try and evaluate things and keep calm and carry on - it's what us Brits are good at!
Stay safe.

I suffer respiratory illnesses and have a very weak immune system. My Dad is even worse than me and in his late 70s. The figures may be "low" compared to Italy or other places but it is jumping by the day, and not just the one or 2 cases. I wish there were more reports on people who have recovered and what their experiences are, and more reports on FAQs from people and given a straight answer - not just "probably" and "maybe". The panic buying will continue and what happens when you run out of gels and cleaning stuff and there are none to buy? I know people on here laugh at me, and I do have chronic anxiety but I cannot help it.

I appreciate that and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if our infection rate doesn't creep up to Italian rates soon but even so the risk is still so minimal compared to population.
You are probably causing yourself more risk of a heart attack by worrying so much - from the very little I know it is a very weak virus and soap is your friend.

You're not alone and dare I say there are people more at risk if they get it than you, or even your father. Just have to use a common sense approach and ride it out. Not exactly sure what you want the government to do. Can't let a virus bring the world economy completely to it's knees, it's not the Blitz. My salary is likely going to half or even worse this year due to this, is what it is as they say.
A bit of dark humor in times like this is what Brits do best. You'd fit in over here, people love a panic.
Thanks - I love that band and glad i at least got to see them last year.
By the way, did we discuss their gig?
I've seen them a few times now and I have to say I thought that tour was really bad. They were far too arty farty - a band like Squeeze should simply play the stuff that people want to hear and don't mess about with the hits by rearranging the formats - which they did continually!

I don;t believe we did discuss it. It was my first time to see them incredibly so could not compare it to other gigs of theirs. I thought they were very good but did tend to drift off a bit from the hits etc. I actually preferred Heaven 17 that night - they were excellent.

I saw them a few years ago at the Indigo at the O2. I love Squeeze and bits of it were brilliant, about them playing in their backyard and where their Dads once worked etc but they did that then.
About half the night was them playing stuff and doing it acapella or on ukeleles and that wasn't really what I wanted to hear. It was good but when you have a back catalogue like that then just bl00dy play it.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
