Boris 8.30pm presser 18:22 - Mar 23 with 3881 views | bringbackjordan | Lockdown? If so would it be immediate or do we get a 24 hour period to go and ‘lockdown’ with family members who would otherwise be alone?
Boris 8.30pm presser on 18:31 - Mar 23 with 3386 views | StokieBlue | The COBRA meeting was later today - didn't start until 5pm so might just be a normal one. To be fair, today there were far, far less people about. SB

It's about new measures so even if it isn't full lockdown it's going to be tougher. Source: No 10 via sky News.

Thanks that’s put my mind at ease my mums on her own in Dorset and I’m travelling down tomorrow to be with her through lockdown so she isn’t lonely and before anyone says no she isn’t high risk
Boris 8.30pm presser on 18:43 - Mar 23 with 3318 views | ElderGrizzly | FCO advice is changing to get UK people overseas back here asap. I’d expect a Australian/New Zealand style border shut down in the next 48 hours and a UK internal lockdown by Wednesday evening similar to Italy’s initial lockdown a few weeks ago

Yes that does make sense. Will they enforce shut downs of construction sites? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We're supposedly two weeks behind Italy. There was a five day gap between school lockdown and full lockdown there; the schools shutdown on Friday here so five days makes Wednesday. The figures add up. It could be similar to the French lockdown, though, where it's lockdown except for food shopping, urgent family visits, exercise or dog walking. [Post edited 23 Mar 2020 19:28]

There are pre-approved Emergency Action laws already written that just get put in during an emergency. They can do what they want to a degree.

MPs are undertaking a discussion now though if Johnson declares a state of emergency that might over-ride the Commons?

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 has a whole raft of emergency measures which can be brought in under exactly these sorts of circumstances (epidemic, interruption of food supply). It is already in law, just needs to be activated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Contingencies_Act_2004

Boris 8.30pm presser on 20:20 - Mar 23 with 2565 views | jeera | I know I'm being dim but to be clear. For all the talk of "it's ok, shops' stock will catch up sooner or later", will we be able to access it as normal? Under 'lockdown' measures do people still go to buy stuff as they wish? Will the shops even be opening? Will we be downloading forms at home like the French? Do we even have the facilities to produce our own forms or will they be in French? Same as the original Italy lockdown too. That initial lockdown was 2 weeks ago and the last two days has seen numbers start to fall, but still huge. We won’t see any impact of these measures for at least 2 weeks, so hope of seeing it ended after 3 weeks is unlikely,
