As kids - my dad would get the kettle and poor boiling water at the visual source. Always seemed to work.

Did that too. Kinda harsh on ants going about their business but can’t deny it’s effectiveness

Try getting down to their level and ask them to leave, this advice is only likely to be effective if you are drunk.

No need to hurt them.

I do find spraying vinegar to block a route works as a deterrent, yes.

Since Gorman pointed it out, I have actually notice the term "It's a doggy dog world" spoken on tv a few times.

I used to do a bit of work for an eccentric old high court judge who used to put sugar in an air rifle and shoot insects like he was using a mini shot gun.

Very strange man.

You'd think sand would be better.

Sugar will just attract more!

Had a similar issue recently when moving into a new house.

Put one of these down and it worked a treat within a few days. Was used indoors but it does say it can be used outside as well.

We had this a couple of months ago coming into our front room and finding them on the table etc. Got some table salt and put that into the ant nest holes and inside the house near the front door under the carpet and then poured boiling water into the outside holes. Took a few days but it actually worked. Now got some ant powder from Wilko in case it happens again, but that was a quick and easy way to deal with it at short notice.

Ants are in thrall to a queen, so I suggest a homophobic rant at the entrance to the nest, they will either leave or make placards and protest, in which case you can stamp on them.

One eccentric old high court judge to another: "I say Godfrey, what do you normally give a ponce?"
"Oh, never more than half a crown."

The only thing I know is that I might be wrong about everything else.
