Dog thefts 09:38 - Jul 29 with 17003 views | clive_baker | What's all this then that I'm hearing? The old dear is now more petrified someone's coming to steal the dog than she is of Covid. As for the old man, he's got the shot gun ready. Reports in their village of some people knocking on doors in the middle of the night, allegedly to see if there are dogs inside with a view to coming back for them. These people make me sick.

Dog thefts on 16:02 - Jul 29 by jeera | My favourite fad was the micro pig phase, where you had old dears going out and purchasing these cute tiny piglets thinking they were going to become house pets they could carry about in some handbag. They were also surprised to learn that even 'micro' pigs grow to the size of a large coffee table. |

Dog thefts on 13:47 - Jul 29 by GeoffSentence | That only happens if you use thread mode. If you use a modern mode, like table mode, no such confusion happens. I am sure that plod would be bright enough to use the most up to date and sensible viewing mode. |
I just tried out all the modes (apart from Depeche, which I couldn't find), and I respectfully submit that your statement is cobblers; it happens on all of them, including 'simple mode' which I am reliably informed is the mode what is used by plod. Also, I find I cannot use thread mode, as the excessive scrolling tends to give me RSI of the wrist, and I have enough computer-use-induced wrist problems already, as is apparent.

I see what you mean now. It does do that even in table mode for the list of posts. I thought you meant the subject line when in the thread. I take it all back. Not for the first time, nor for the last, I was talking bollox. But you can't say I didn't give you fair warning. My avatar alerts you to the danger.

Dog thefts on 10:26 - Jul 29 by C_HealyIsAPleasure | Even with the chalk marks though any picture I’ve seen on FB just looks like any whitish scuff to me rather than a specific chalk mark that could be used as signal Not to mention that it seems rather far fetched - rather than just making a note of houses on a piece of paper or a phone... Not saying there haven’t been instances and clearly dog owners should practice some common sense precautions, but no doubt that most of what is being posted on social media is ill-informed hysteria |
with you on this ,the postings on f.b. that my mrs show me have gone through the roof. tell you how stupid people are, someone posted that she heard noises in her garden at night and thought someone might be stealing her dogs. when she checked everything was ok. she went on to say god help anyone who try to steal her dogs. she then went on to post pics of her dogs in the same post. when someone said good on you , what part of town are you in. she told them the street she live in . so anyone could see how many dogs she has and roughly where she live.

I think its a combination of people on lockdown who havent been working getting bored, and thinking that a dog is a good idea to pass the time. and/or people who already have a dog thinking they can get some cash in hand to help them along. Both together an increase in demand and hence the price flying up (and hence why thefts are now occuring as the wronguns arent that daft and they can see a money making opportunity). High prices are all well and good for the sellers, but to my mind, paying 2k or more for a 'regular' family dog like a Lab, Spaniel or similar is a rip off, borderline disgusting. Its certainly put getting a dog out of the question for us until the madness stops.

I struggle with this knowing how many dogs are in kennels without homes. It can become a vanity thing very easily can't it? Don't get me wrong, there are breeds I'd like, especially something like a collie who might actually do as it's fecking told. But I like dogs in general and would rather save one from the needle if I could.

This. Most* dogs are fantastic, why not get one from the RSPCA or other charities? My last one was a rescue dog who was horribly abused in the name of 'weaponising' him at a young age. Beaten, kicked, tied up, all sorts. It was a joy to watch him progress from a nervous, angry mutt who pissed himself in fear to a happy, healthy, funny chap. Not saying all rescue dogs are like that, far from it, but when you put the work in it's much more rewarding than having a designer dog. Especially sh1t new breeds like cockapoodles or what have you. This happens with people too, sadly.
