Poor from him, seemed to be caught in 2 minds but not sure what they were! Wasn’t even a particularly strong press on him

If we are going to play that way then we have to recruit players for that style.

Is Cornell a sweeper keeper as such, i've not seen him. Chambers isn't a footballing defender, neither is Toto or Wilson. So 1 out of the 4 cb's can pass it. Not good.

Except that's exactly what people are doing and nobody's really bothered.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It is the only way to open teams up, that is why the better sides play that way.

By playing from the back the opposition pushes forward to press leaving gaps further forwards. If we want to be at the top of L1 we have to try and play this way.

It isn't difficult to do, No CB should run straight into the opposition strike on the 6 yard box, that isnt tactics that are wrong that is the player simple as that!

It’s the way teams with footballing defenders play! Even then they make mistakes occasionally. For any other team it’s just a liability. We saw in the Championship relegation season what a disaster it was for us to try it. Little has changed in that respect. Even if we manage not to lose the ball, when the midfield get it we end up going sideways, slowing down and letting the opposition regroup. What we really need is midfielders who can commit the opposition and beat them and then open things up.

I think this may need to be a pinned post for next season!

Football League First Division / Premier League Champions (1): 1961—62 - Runners-up (2): 1980—81, 1981—82 Football League Second Division / EFL Championship Champions (3): 1960—61, 1967—68, 1991—92 - Play-off winners (1): 1999—2000 Football League Third Division / EFL League One Champions (2): 1953—54, 1956—57 - Southern League Champions (1): 1936—37 FA Cup Winners (1): 1977—78 - Texaco Cup Winners (1): 1972—73 UEFA Cup / UEFA Europa League Winners (1): 1980—81

That was laughable, don't think he will be able to cope with this new playing out from the back system

Not new we were doing that last season.

I have to say, I don’t think him, Toto or Wilson are going to fit the new style.

But given our recruitment capabilities, it is going to be hard to find a ball playing CB to come to League 1 on peanuts.

Think Ndaba has had a good pre season and looks a long term option, but probably not in the immediate future.

Chambers doing as he has been instructed by a manager who doesn't know / realise we aren't anywhere near good enough technically to play this fancy playing out from the back stuff.

im not sure even PL has told his CB to take a poor first touch, then turn inside, then be weak as piss and let the opposition pass into an empty net

We’ll be good again... one day

But it’s having options once our defenders have the ball, whether that’s the keeper or players in the midfield and then having the confidence to deliver the pass through those lines. Feel we’re too static at times and don’t look to make ourselves available for the ball.

That's my point - PL is telling players to do something they aren't capable of.
