Your bottom line is 100% correct when the appointments are looked at in hindsight but despite four out of five of them turning out to be bad appointments I think there was logic in each of the selections at the time.
I do not think anyone, even including ME, would say that his record of choosing managers was anything other than very poor but that has to be taken with hindsight. |
Agree. I think all managers at the time(maybe except Jewell) have been sound appointments at the time, it is only now they look bad. |  |

I’d say the only appointment which seemed fine on paper then failed miserably was Hurst. Keane, Jewell and Lambert were all coming off the back of failures and, in the case of the latter two, pretty poor failures at that. | |

I’d say MM and Hurst seemed like right calls at the time.
Keane was for show, Jewell a bizarre left-field appointment and Lambert almost equally so, albeit with a more recent history of success.

Keane couldn’t set up or organise the players and treated them badly.
Jewell couldn’t set up or organise but I think, in general, treated the players well.
Mick generally got the team organised and was well liked but ended up with a them v us culture against the fans.
Hurst failed at everything.
It sounds like Lambert started reasonably capable - for those about to dispute this we did seem to have a plan in 18/19 and there was a case for the much fabled ‘improved performances’ but that all fell apart last year. |

Keane had just got Sunderland promoted so he had credibility and was a big name for the new owner of us with big intentions and money at the time. Lambert had a decent enough track record in his old two clubs before us, and wanted an experienced manager after Hurst failed. Jewell I can’t make any sense of. | |

From what I hear Evans has been all over him like a rash as it is, has sat down with all the players individually without PL there - so the ice must be very thin. Starting the season with Lambert in charge is suicidal for him, and he’ll get what he deserves - sadly we’ll have to suffer it too |
Surely last week’s antics should be the final straw then? Photo-gate seems to fly straight in the face of ME’s push (and supposed re-push this summer) to embrace the academy graduates.
As I said a few days ago, we are going into a season with a manager that the majority of the fans and players aren’t behind. And from what you say, the owner is not fully convinced by. In a season where promotion is a must. Madness. [Post edited 31 Aug 2020 8:37]
