Where do you place us this season? 14:54 - Aug 30 with 5602 viewsBluefish

Regardless of Shambert I think we should be top 4. Last season he messed about so much that we failed but even with his lack of tactial ability I think we can be top 4

Nah, I think the team will pay less attention to the fraud this year so we will do better. We should be top 4

Ultimately rescuing a 14th place, after being in the bottom 6 by early December and Lambert being replaced before Christmas.

I genuinely have no idea. This league is toss and with the quality in the squad we could do okay despite having an incompetent manager. More likely we'll hover around midtable after the first couple of months and then hopefully sack Lambert with enough of the season left for a new manager to still make the top 6.

is the damage he's doing behind the scenes and with the squad that worries me more. so regardless if they ignore him or not, hes still poison to have around the place

To use a Monty Python quote I will answer that question in two ways, firstly in my normal voice and then in a silly high-pitch whine.

In normal voice:- I am far less confident at this moment than I was prior to last season because last season I expected top two and we should have got top two.

In silly high-pitch whine:- I have no idea.

We've got 2 teams in our squad that should finish Top 6 minimum. Our best starting XI should win the league. It's all down to Lambert, unfortunately.

14th if we keep the fraud all season.

Top six if ME comes to his senses relatively early in time for a decent manager (Cook?) to rescue us.

Is there a problem in the kitchen as well?

It's understandable that various predictions have us towards the top or at the very least challenging among the top 6. On the face of it we have strength in depth/options that many other clubs in the league can only dream of, and the individual quality should be enough to get us there.

However, as evidenced by last season, the management team has no idea how to use it. The squad is pretty much the same as last time, with a different back-up 'keeper, a new LB (the pick of the bunch) and a striker who's barely trained. It's still bloated and the excitement/glimmer of hope in young players being pushed more towards the forefront has taken a blow with the now infamous photo-gate saga.

We've spent pre-season trying to be a rip-off Guardiola side only to then completely change tack as soon as we get the new big man in the team which, going by the radio commentary and reports, we didn't even use effectively, with lots of aimless long balls and no clear plan of what to do. Add in the off-field problems which seem closer to bubbling over the surface with each passing day, it's hard to have any optimism.

I don't think it'll be a complete disaster as some may think, but I really fear a gut-punchingly frustrating one again where we initially do alright to get past weaker teams but come up well short against more organised, well drilled opposition, which increasingly starts to become the whole division as time goes on.

Mid-table-ish if Lambert gets the whole season, which I fear he will unless we're really in the sh!t by which point it'll be too tall an order to get promoted which is an absolute must.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Depends when Lambert goes, but difficult to see a top six finish unless he's gone very quickly. If I had to guess I'd say 11th again.

We cannot risk another manager called Paul and we really don't want a scouser

Agreed. I'm sure Paul Cook has plenty going for him but our record with managers called Paul is abysmal.

But I understand the game-years of experience of studying and analysis.

AND I once scored three goals in a game for Melton Youth Club Old Boys Reserves although I have never been to Germany.

Top is still a failure, so anywhere below that worse.

I suspect it will all depend on how much work the new man has to do when he gets in.

Same owner, same manager, same squad mostly.

Not good enough at any level so lower mid-table at best!

I don't agree-I think the squad was good enough for a top 2 last season and as the squad has not (yet) changed dramatically it should be good enough to do well this season.

I do not think the problem is squad strength.

We SHOULD be challenging for automatic promotion. Promotion the only acceptable outcome. Then again, we should have done so last season.

But the squad looks heavy in average players.
